A first home victory of the season for the Duke which sees us move off the bottom of the premier division table. Plenty of chances in all of the games and enjoyable evening in good company. Apologies to our visitors for the lack of food....

Albion B | 12/11 | | Smugglers A | |
---|
| | | | | Rick Cunningham * | 2850 | 3130 | Chris Lucas | | Terry Molloy | 7550 | 5150 | Steve Hurley * | | Steve Aylmore | 9670 | 1160 | Dave Jones * | | Tony Jenner * | 6800 | 1370 | Andy Farmer-Wright | | Pete Hickman | 180 | 12070 | Colin Green * | | 3 | 27050 | 22880 | 2 | 49930 |
Rick lost just under 7k opener and then all got a bit scrappy with Chris on the table at the right time as the bar dropped.
Steve off early, Terry built 5k lead, Steve having good chase but broke down as bar due when on course to take it.
Dave off early and Steve played a good steady game.
TJ off 2k, Andy lost 2k, and then all very nervy but TJ battled for the win.
Colin opened with 11570 break all over.
A good night where result could have gone either way, curry to finish.

Have you got the breaks the right way around there Dave? Tarring Club should have had breaks 1,3 and 5.

Well you and I are correct Dave. Home team have breaks 1 and 4 only when teams from the same Division play each other. That Nigel and Silent, what do they know? ;)

I hate to say I told you so (smug b*tch here) I said at the AGM that having the breaks in different orders would lead to confusion. I think we played it wrong last night then - we had breaks 1 and 4. Nobody from Swan A argued with that.

Having potentially opened a can of worms, I've just been reading the current rules L.4 and L.5 which govern the order of player nomination and subsequent break order. Hardly surprising then that confusion is arising as not only are there 3 protocols for break order, but there are also 3 for which Captain should nominate their player first!
It came as a surprise to me, reading L.4, that where teams of the same division play each other, whilst it is only implied that the Home team has breaks 1 and 4 (it doesn't actually say it), it does state that the Home team nominates first in games 1 and 4 and the Away team in games 2,3 and 5. We haven't been doing that, even when playing against the League Secretary's team (shows he doesn't know the rules either).
I wonder how many matches this season have been played where Captains, and I include myself in this, are ignorant of the rules.

It has been pointed out to Dave he has worded the part about captain with break names wrong and I believe amendment will show on the black peg!!!

I was forgetting that Roger had the opening break. However, even though we got it right on the night, having different orders of breaks depending on the opponents is bound to lead to errors. If the wording on who chooses first is wrong in the rules, then we have a chaotic situation to deal with!
