Dave Reeves started his busy night with victory in the Captains Cup, his opponent Gary Mechan missed early and Dave got them back and opened with a break of 4470 which was enough to give him the first leg despite Gary making a valiant chase. In leg 2 Dave opened with a very solid 6110 break and added some more later to take the Cup 2-0
The Over 55s was played on the Romans pub table and Dave beat his teammate Mick Pope 2-0, the table looked to play well as Dave had two scores of over 9k
The Mens Plate was the second match on table 2 which proved tricky throughout the evening, playing slightly uphill, making the break difficult unless hitting it with left and a little more pace. Doug Dawson played Chris Oakley in this one and shared the first two legs. It wasn't until leg 3 that Chris finally got the hang of the table and got enough to seal the win
In the Lower Division Doubles Dave Roberts and Ross Pettiford were looking to go one better than last year in the final against Jack Baden and Heather Millward. It was a tense affair with Jack and Heather doing enough to go one up. After Dave had missed fairly early in leg 2, Jack made a good job of clearing the balls and was going very well on 3.5k before leaving a ball awkward and sadly pegging. It looked likely that it would go to a decider when Ross got the break back but unfortunately he missed the ball to give Jack and Heather the win and a
pairing and league Chairman
Jack was straight on to the Under 25s against Joe Oakley. This was on table 1 which was a little faster than the other two tables, Joe pegged his first break to give Jack the balls straight back but he had problems on the one-up all game missing by going behind. Joe got enough on his next visit to give him the leg. Jack was off early in leg 2 and Joe made no mistake with an excellent 7560 break and added a few more to give him his first individual trophy, I'm sure the first of many
In the mixed doubles Colleen Park and Dave Ingram retained their title 2-0 defeating Sandra and Kev Hall, the difference here being that Kev never managed to get the break back over the two legs and Dave managed to, although he also found it tricky on the tough table 2, he was very well supported by his partner Colleen who went off with a decent break in her first break in the second leg
In the Mens Singles a third match of the night for Dave Reeves going for his first title and Nigel Senior going for the outright record attempting a 7th win. Ultimately Nigel ran out a comfortable winner with an 11,100 break in the first leg, following up with a 9,330 break in the second after Dave missed early so a 7th title for Nige and outright leader with most wins, well done
In the 10.00pm matches Nigel with Marcus Chipman and Dave with Colin Smith squared off in the Open Doubles, Smithy went first and made a solid start. Unfortunately Marcus 4 timed the break and then Dave got enough on the next go to win the first leg, with Nigel just running out of time. Nigel made it 1-1 with an excellent 10,130 and touch in leg 2. Marcus against Dave with the breaks in the decider and neither managed a substantial break, but Dave and Colin kept their noses in front throughout the decider to give Dave 3 out of 4 titles on the night, well done to him
In the battle of team-mates George Fisher and Brian Muggridge the Lower Division Singles was a tight and competitive affair. Whilst George seemingly had little problem with the break, Brian was busy trying all sorts of ways to get it.....George won the first leg, and had Brian on the ropes in the second, looking to win 2 straight, but Brian dug in to send the match to a decider, where again George was in pole position with the lead, but pegging a break when going well. There were no further chances for George though, as Brian had now got to grips with the break and made a vital 4k to win the title
The Ladies Singles on table 3 was the last match with Jean Brackenridge taking on Sandra Hall, the first leg was pretty scrappy but Jean won out with her break to come. After missing on 2k Jean got the balls back and ran in a brilliant 9800 break which gives her the ladies high break and ladies high score with 11,610 for the season and a monumental number of ladies singles titles, well done

I would like to end with a few thank-yous, to Lee and all his staff at the Romans for looking after us, Toni for organising and Tarratts for providing the tables. To everyone that scored, many simply volunteering which makes my job much easier, thank you. To all the winners, congratulations and bad luck to the runners-up, thanks to everyone who watched and supported. Thank you to everyone who took part in the Competitions this year, there were plenty of good matches along the way. Finally to Stuart and Alan for setting up the Romans table and to Ian who gave up his afternoon to help me set up the tables, always a challenging job. If I've forgotten anyone thanks to you as well
