Very disappointed I'm unable to play in this high quality competition this year ( and off the spot comp) because of the new rule that has been put in.
Out of interest ,can somebody tell me , based on entries to last years doubles and OTS comp who else this effects ?

Curt Based on the emtries received last year for these competitions, there are a total of 6 players that would not be eligible to take part next year. I understand your disappointment Curt but, as I explained last night, if you played regularly (50% of games) within any League in Sussex then you would be welcome to take part in the competitions which are meant to be for Sussex players.

I would suggest that Sussex get their house in order as a player has already entered and paid for the doubles in Jan who I believe would not qualify. Will the other 5 players be notified that they can't play or will they have to stumble across it like I have ? ☹️

Will the other 5 players be notified that they can't play or will they have to stumble across it like I have ? ☹️ The competition secretary had already been advised (before you had put this post) that there are actually TWO players shown on entry lists that are not eligible to play and should not have been accepted, those players will be notified accordingly and any payment refunded. The other players have not applied to play in this competition as they know that the Singles and Doubles are for Sussex players only and not for guests from other counties. Thank you for pointing this out Curt and your comment regarding Sussex getting our house in order is noted.

At the AGM this year the eligibility for Sussex County competitions was discussed as it had been brought to our attention that some people were not happy. After discussion where the general feeling of those present was that it should be for Sussex players and not for "guest" players who may only play a couple of times a year or not play at all throughout the year in any of the Sussex leagues. It was left to the Committee to make the decision on how this would work. There was much discussion amongst the Committee who eventually came up with the wording which was put on to the entry forms.
These are Sussex County Competitions and not opens. There are Sussex Ranking points available for Singles, Doubles and Off The Spot which are used for entry into the Sussex Masters. This was one of the reasons the criteria was brought in
It did not seem fair that (no disrespect to anyone and I'm using totally random examples) that a player who doesn't normally make the masters has a really good inter league season and is on the verge of making the masters then gets drawn in a group in the Off The Spot against player A from Surrey who has played no games, player B from Hants that has only played 2 games and player C from Kent who has played a couple of games. I don't think the player who has played regularly in a league in Sussex and Inter-league for a team within Sussex would think this fair.
The Committee are trying to protect the interests of Sussex players some of whom were asking questions about eligibility.

Exceptionally sad that Chris and I can no longer enter this event as we have for the last few years.
We truly enjoyed the weekend,
Oh well so be it ".......
We were going to try and raise an extra ladies team for the Sussex event as last year.
Do not have the heart now to do it.

With a couple of people finding their partners unavailable as both Nick Brown and Chris Cox have had to pull out, Terry Molloy will now partner Chris Hickman and they play Start Carruthers and Jack Baden at 11.45. In place of Nick Brown and Terry Molloy will be Andy Farmer Wright and Chris Oakley who play at 11.00 against Phil and Bob Osborne.
