I know some of you may be aware by now, but sadly I have to report that my dad passed away on Thursday night. He has suffered for a few years with prostrate cancer but this spread to his lungs and liver over the last couple of weeks and his condition deteriorated quite quickly. His death was peaceful and myself, my mum and my sister were with him at the end.
My dad was the person who got me into bar billiards in the first place just over 20 years ago. Many Saturday afternoons were spent in the pubs around Brighton with us playing a few games, he would win a few but I think mainly enjoyed scoring my breaks as I improved – even though he would always tell me I was hitting the balls too hard!
We do share the fact we both won the Brighton Lower Division Masters but he did go one better than me by winning the Worthing Lower Division Masters to complete that double. I wanted to find those two trophies when I went to his flat on Friday....I did and I have now put them with my collection at home.
At this time, I am not sure of funeral arrangements etc but will put something here when I know more.

So sorry to hear this sad news, Nigel, I extend my sympathies to you and your family. My recollections of your dad are predominantly twofold. In the very early days of this forum he was a significant contributor. I remember particularly debating with him on the subject of qualification criteria for what were then fledgling Masters tournaments. He and I had very different views on the subject, and he would defend his position robustly, I always enjoyed our exchanges. As far as playing goes, I recall meeting him once in the Kent Classic, where our game was very close. Through the mists of time my vague recollection is that he played the last ball into the 200 hole for a tie, even though it was only the first leg of the match. An example of the distinctively individual style in which he played the game. R.I.P. Mark.

Thinking of you Nigel and your family at this sad time
Lots of memories of Mark most of them seem to have the 200 involved. A player I never wanted to get drawn against as even when in control of the game Mark always seemed to find the shots (some of which I've never seen) at the end to win.
RIP Mark

Sad news indeed I had the pleasure of playing along side and against Mark and we always spent time having a chat, a character indeed and we have missed him in the Worthing league the last few seasons due to his illness. Mine and Liz`s condolences go out to you and your family Nigel, RIP Mark and will raise a glass to you this Thursday when we play your team mates from the Marine View.

My condolences Nigel. I remember well joining your Dad and others when he started a Team at the Bridge in Newhaven to join the Lewes league. The team still exists as such but changed several times and locations but without his efforts would not have started.

Thanks all for your messages on here, they are all appreciated.
You are right Jean and Mark in that he had his very own way of playing the game. And Doug I remember him starting the Bridge team in Newhaven, that team may have evolved over the years but it is still going in the Lewes league now.

Sorry, I missed this post. I just found out the other day from the Worthing Black Peg.
I am so sorry to hear this news. I played against Mark a lot when I was in the Henty Worthing team and it was always a very tight game. I liked him a lot, he always had a very dry sense of humour. I also remember some interesting shots, which always made me think.
My sincere condolences to you and your family, Nigel.
