To welcome the new Horsham board, while I'm in Statto mode, I thought I'd give a brief history of this excellent an prestigious competition, from the time it was "thrown Open" in 1971/72, to its untimely finish in 1996/97.
The competition was timed so that the Final fell on the Tuesday of Horsham Festival week, by which time Horsham's new carnival queen would have been crowned. Representatives of the Festival Committee would attend and bring with them the new Miss Horsham who would then present the prizes in her usually stunning outfit ! :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Over a 35-year span, the following teams from Horsham won the cup more than once : Five Oaks (5 times); Hornbrook (4); Plough (3); YMCA (3); Bell (2) and Foresters (2). The Partridge, White Hart (Cran), Cherry Tree and Windmill (Lit) all won it once.
During the Seventies, teams from the Worthing and Portslade areas achieved considerable success, with Three-times-champ living up to his name and gaining a winners medal in 1978,1981 and 1982. Brighton lifted the cup in consecutive seasons, in 1984 with Sudeley Arms and 1985 with the Hikers Rest.
During the Nineties, Redhill League had their moments, with the Ship (Meadvale) appearing in three consecutive finals and the Flying Scud lifting the award in 1994. Last-ever winners were the Black Dog (Crawley) in 1997, which also comprised their farewell to the Horsham League as they joined Redhill with the same team that autumn.
A full list of non-Horsham-league winners of the cup (and non-league runners-up) will follow.

Thanks Statto!
I remember playing the Flying Scud at the Partridge the in 1994 the year the won.
I didn't know any of the team back then and thought we stood a chance.
The Scud: Susie Mariner, Gail Woods, Jeff Jukes, Simon Tinto and Greg Hughan (Excuse spelling!)
What a team! They trounced us 5-0.
Festival Cup would be a great comp to try and revive!
