The table I have refurbished has no key to lock the table top down. the key, whatever else it has to be, has to have a hole in the end of its shaft as there is a male point I can see in the keyhole.
has anyone got a spare key or two they can post me to try and see if i can't strike it lucky!
all keys returned after the 'winner' has been copied. I trust that this is the best way to get a key sorted? or do you think a locksmith would sort this out in no time?
cheers

Assuming it's a standard lock, all keys are the same.
If you cannot borrow one from Suffolk then let me know

Hi Taffy
I've just come across exactly the same problem as this!
I had assumed that the key from my old wooden front filing cabinet would work on my table as it has the same sort of lock mechanism and the key hole has a male spigot inside.
But typically the one I had has too small a hole in the key to go into the key hole over the shaft.
Did you manage to get a copy of the master, if possible could you send me a picture so that I know what i'm looking for !
thanks
Seamus

Most of them are copies of copies of copies and pretty rough so I don't think the lock mech is too fussy!
Just two levers / two slots. you could probably file one quite easily from a blank with the right size hole in the end.

There is a previous thread on this:
Dimensions are given, but the pictures on one post were hostef by TinyPics so aren't visible now. But I'll look in my own archives, I may have retained a copy.

Thats great thanks, neither of the ones I had would have worked as the key tines face downwards rather than along the length. I have found the key dimensions on the other post please, Do you have a rough idea of the size of the square bit on the end as they seem to come in a few widths. I'll get one ordered and get to work with a file this weekend.
Thanks again Seamus

Whato Seamus
Have look at the photo Tommo and sav have replied and look at the bottom edge below the third point of the 'E'. on some tables you can get away with 3-4mm of that bit but I spent ages looking and saying 'what the f....' when i spotted that the bottom edge being 1mm higher - cured it. so what i mean is, quite literally, take 1mm off the bottom edge.
as it does a circular motion you could start by curving the bottom edge so that when seen end on the bottom edge would be the shape of a saucer. I have both types to hand as i had many made. I have an address if you want to get your own. a guy near Wroughton.

Taffy
Thanks for pointing that out, if you hadn't said I would have thought that was just wear on the key face.
My local locksmith thinks he's got a box of various of this type of key so I'm just popping dow there now.
I'll let you know how I get on !

Hi all I've had a couple cut to roughly the right size and spent the afternoon with a dremel and need files and although I can get it to engage it doesn't seem to release the pins.
So if possible could I have the address of that stockist please Taffy, then at least I'm starting with something close to correct.
Thanks
Seamus
