Alternate Rules 2018

Have been looking through this page and notice there isn't a thread for the forthcoming competition this coming Sunday.

I presume this is still going ahead? Just a bit surprising with all the other good work being done on the other competitions, this one seems to have been overlooked?

Hi Mark,

Apologies for the radio silence on this one. I have been trying to secure sponsorship for this event following notification that a number of players intended to withdraw as they are unhappy with the entry fee - and so I was seeking to find a way to reduce it through sponsorship.

Please may I restate - the entry fees have gone up but only to try to bring players the best events possible. Sponsorship for our events has also gone up this year but keeping events at £3 or £5 as they have been for many years is simply not reflective of the costs - you will have noticed that all costs have risen significantly in the last decade. We have been fortunate to attract significant sponsorship for events this year as was demonstrated at the recent County Championships - but alas, no event sponsor for the Alternative Rules.

Sadly, I have had no response at all from my request for sponsorship from the Bar Billiards community on this forum and my efforts to attract additional sponsorship externally for this particular event have not worked either despite many hours of calls, emails and hard selling. As such, the entry fee remains as advertised.

With the numbers currently registered the event will commence at 11am with a 11:30am first series. The format will see players compete in a group 'round robin' format initially.

If you now do not intend to participate in this event could you please notify me either here, through PM or email, or phone (or Facebook Messenger or any other method you think will be swift) so that the format can be finalised.

Please don't think my original post was having a go at you (or anyone else). I was just a little surprised there was no thread on here to discuss this event. I haven't looked on the AE site for entries, so do not know how many there are. I am working on a couple of people to attend this weekend, will let you know.

I've spoken to a couple of players that are of the impression you can turn up on the day and enter, is this the case?

They can pay on the day but need to know their names and if they are playing in advance so that the format can be finalised.

Congratulations to Fitz on winning the AEBBA Alternate rules yesterday beating Dave Alder in the final.

After scraping through the group stages winning only 1 out of 3 games Fitz got his act together over the two leg matches from the last 16 onwards. After the first game of the final Fitz was 400 up. In the second game two breaks of 700 and 1000 secured the win.

Well done to the finalists and thanks to the organisers on the day for another great tournament
