after a 2 year break due to covid Barbilliards were able to resume inter island competition. Guernsey were able to take their youngest team in many a year. although packed with experience 2 players made their debut in Leon Ogier and Paul Le Gallez.
Leon made the team as reserve and he kicked off the proceedings with a friendly v his Jersey opponent Jenny Noel who also made her debut alongside Daughter Emma in a historic moment as the first ever ladies to play in the fixture. Both players were both nervous making for an interesting start to the night. Leon managed to do enough and win 2520-1520.
Older Brother Darren was drawn first against Jersey Captain Graeme Le Monnier, Darren had the break and most the of it setting off with 2,900. Graeme was unable to score much and allowed Darren back to the table early where added a further 2400 and take control of the tie. Graeme had a good chance to eat back the score but pegged during a break. With time now in Darren favor he was able to build a steady lead and give Guernsey the start they were looking for. 6320 - 380
Emma Noel making her debut was the underdog as she took on the highly rated Paul Dyer and despite some nerves Emma played a solid game building here score with lots of little breaks. In the process leaving the balls in difficult positions for her opponent. Despite Pauls Best efforts he trailed throughout. Emma winning 2260 - 1640 and the only jersey player to win.
Paul Le Gallez making his debut against the highly experience Graham Bisson had a relatively easy victory especially as Graham Black pegged and lost his score mid way through. This calmed Paul early nerves as he ran out 3390 - 30 winner and extend Guernsey aggregate advantage.
Next up were 2 of the elder statesmen of both teams. Nigel Ryal of Jersey and Roy Le page of Guernsey.
Nigel had the opening break but was soon off allowing Roy and unexpected small score to catch. He managed to settle in well and set up an early lead, however Nigel closed the gap before both players had a few goes each. It was the final moments that became interesting as Roy trailed with the Bar dropped and only a few balls to cath him. Roy did that but needed the final ball to secure victory. This he missed and now Nigel had the chance to pot but he missed, Roy wasnt going miss his chance again winning 3490 - 3360.
Guernsey Now only need 1 win for victory or to maintain their aggregate advantage to retain the trophy. Guernsey Captain Ian Champion was up next and had the break. Ian Started off with 2300 much less than he had hoped, but he had left both balls in tricky positions. The Game the became a tight affair as Mick Eouzan chased the Game and Ian did his best to defend the lead. with 4 mins to go and 3200 behind Mick Managed to get the break back and scored 2860 and what looked like victory in sight he had an unlucky spin out just 400 behind allowing Ian to get back to the table just as the bar dropped and put the Guernsey team over the line for the win. 3460 -3080.
With the trophy firmly back in Guernsey Hands Matt Ogier and Dave Gallichan played out was was effectively a dead rubber. Dave had the break, looking to add some pride back into the match. However neither player really played their best billiards and the game very scrappy. However Dave maintained a slim lead throughout and was leading by 410 when the bar dropped. Mat was now at the table and had to work out the how to grab the win. His first shot saw the red go in the 100 and the first white into the 50. now only 160 behind he had to pot 3 whits and keep one ball alive for the final shot. The first in the 30. the second in the 20 and the 3rd in the 10 with the last ball just hanging on. Mat was the able to pot in the 100 hole and secure a 5-1 with just 10 points. 2520 - 2510.
