Yes a great player, a fantastic organiser as well as a gentleman.
Ken Hussey always used to muse over the twig he used for a cue.
R.I.P. Simon

He called his cue his ‘magic putter’. Simon and I won the Redhill Pairs 6 times... I bumped in to him lass than 2 weeks ago. RIP Simon.

That is really upsetting to hear about Simon's passing.
He was a great champion (British Isles Open runner up in Jersey in 1991), played for England, and is just about the most influential person the Redhill League have ever had.
When I started in the League he was the one organising all the one-day competitions. His mission was always to encourage and this included offering tuition to the various lady players, the legacy of which is apparent to this day.
Jukesey will tell you more about him as he knew him best, but just to add that Margo was one to benefit from his tuition but had to miss the last session. I went along instead on the basis that I would buy his beer for the evening, and learnt more about the game in an hour than I had in the previous thirty years.
RIP Simon, you will never be forgotten.

This is sad news Simon always had time to chat and offer advice, he organised the 1st bar billiards golf day and what a great day that was. A very good player and a gentleman who passed on his skills and knowledge to others. Another sad loss to our bar billiard family.
RIP Simon and condolences to your family and friends.

Oh what a shame. Simon was a great promoter and administrator of Bar Billiards in his day and a really pleasant bloke as well. (and he could play a bit!)
My condolences to his family and friends.
RIP Simon

Sad news.
Didnt know him well, but attended the redhill one days comps in my early days at the Frenches a couple of times, which he ran, and remember him being a very nice guy.
Clearly had a lot of passion for the game, I remember looking at the detailed history he wrote on the Redhill league (it is on the Redhill website) - and it was very detailed and also had some great stories in there!
Top player too as Tommo says a former Jersey finalist.
My condolences to his family and friends.

news about Simon ,so many fine people passed in just a handful of days. I played Simon many times back in the day in county champs and all England games. He was a fine player, always capable of quick big breaks and as said played with a matchstick of a cue, god knows how he did it. He put his heart and soul into bar billiards in surrey. Not only play but running and organizing multiple events. I caught back up with him when I moved playing in redhill and shared many a beer with him. Ccondolences to family and friends. Sleezy

What a sad day, to lose such a great player and a lovely person like Simon. I always enjoyed his company and listened to some great funny stories whenever we met. If he had some advice to give, it was always worth listening. In the many years I captained the England side, it was always a pleasure when Simon was amongst the players, always very supportive with the newcomers to the side and a hard player to beat. RIP Simon, condolences to his family.

news, Simon was one of the best players in the last 40 years of the Redhill league and Surrey, he won 7 Open Singles titles, numerus League titles, doubles and cups, but most of all he loved the game, he spent many years on the committee, running comps and coaching players, he had his own style, lots of spin and hit them hard, only using a tooth pick. It was my greatest moment in Bar Billiards when I managed to beat him in the 1999 Open Singles Final as at he time he was the best player in the league, but as always he was very gracious in defeat, he was one of a kind who kept this game going and we might not see his like again, RIP Simon.
