Heading into the final straight of the 2022/23 barbilliards winter league, a number of places are still up for grabs and with some catch up games yet to happen, things can change quite considerably in both divisions. Division 1 Geoff Ogier lost 1:2 to new boy Luke Bush who is continuing to show good form after being promoted to division 1 at the end of last season. Matt Ogier managed to beat 2nd place Paul Dyer taking all 3 points on the night, this lost boosted Matt into 4th place while Paul Dyer lost a place down to 3rd. Darren Pipet also claimed all 3 points against Ben Wilding which also meant Darren overtook Ben in the league. Norman Wilkinson lost 0:3 to Paul Le Gallez. Norman played some really good barbilliards, but didn’t help himself by knocking over the black beg through the match. With Paul Dyer losing early in the night, this means Paul Le Gallez has jumped into second place. Roy Le Page lost 1:2 to Leon Ogier who is continuing his good form this season. Roy needs some magic if he wants to qualify for the Guernsey side to take on Jersey at the end of April. Trevor Gallienne continues his march by taking all 3 points against in form Darren Ogier. Trevor managed an impressive match score of 15,630. Top spot looks to be in the hands of Trevor, while 2nd and 3rd is being contested by 4 players. End of the season is going to the wire. Division 2 Adrian Bush won 2:1 against Claire Gauvain. Both Players continuing to improve throughout the year. Craig Harvey took all 3 points against Kerrie Totty in an important match. With this win, Craig has now managed to jump into 1st place overtaking Ashley Harrison. They both have the same score, but Craig has a better aggregate score. Ashley Harrision won 2:1 against Clive Fallaize, in a game Ashley should of taken the extra point, Ashley struggled and with Clive taking a point off him, Ashley dropped to 2nd. Len Harvey won 2:1 against Blake Batiste in a close encounter, could have been different if Blake hadn’t knocked the black peg over. In the last game, Chris Bourgaize took all 3 points against Kyran Perkins. This was a must win game for Chris to stay in contention for the league title. Looks like its down to 3 people now, Craig, Ashely and Chris, all within 2 points. Looks like the final matches will be exciting, how will hold their nerve the best. We have a break in the league matches now for the next couple of weeks while the divisional knockout matches take place.

Trevor Gallienne also cruised through to the semi-finals after defeating Mathew Ogier 10880 – 5740. BarbIlliards report
Trevor Gallienne secures another title as wins the GBBA division 1 with a game to spare. He also remains on track to retain the Island KO trophy as he progresses to the final to be played at the Hampshire on the 25th of April.
In a rearranged game Trevor Beat matt Wilcox 3 - 0 on a tricky table. Although not at his best in the first game Trevor improved in the second with a 3-0 win 8200 v 1060.
Ben Wilding had a surprising win against Paul Dyer who was one of Trevor's main challengers this season. Both Players were not at their best in the first game however Paul managed a small win. In the second game Ben played much better and with a couple of good breaks ended up with 5330 and 6070 overal v 5180.
Norman Wilkinson had been languishing at the foot of the table but a surprising 2-1 victory over Darren Ogier the previous week spurred him on to a 3-0 win over Darren Pipet to lift 5 places. however, the threat of relegation still looms as there are only 2 points separating all 5 players.
Leon Ogier who had been showing some signs of form succumbed to 4th Place Matt Ogier 3-0. The first game was a tight affair with Matt narrowly winning by just 250 points 3200 v 3450. The second game was a little more straightforward as he Mat won with a combined score of 6980 v 4720.
Luke Bush dropped very close to relegation when he lost to Ian Champion 3-0, Ian took charge of the game from the off and finished with 15250 v 1150. Luke just needs to score 1500 in his last match to secure his place in div 1 for next season.
Island KO semi-final
Trevor Gallienne breezes through to the final with a straightforward win against Ben Wilding. Trevor held a 7770 v 510 advantage from the 1st game which Ben was unable to catch nearing the end and conceded Victory. Trevor now has the chance to regain the KO trophy and claim his 25th Title.
Handicap Semi-Finals
Andy Rundle former island player makes the most of his 8000 points advantage to progress to the final against Island starlet Ian Champion. Despite the large deficit, Ian made a real game of it scoring 11340, however, with his handicap Andy Managed 13310.
in the other Semi-final 2 fellow Island Players met, Darren Ogier and Paul Dyer. Paul's scoring prowess meant he started with a 3300 disadvantage. After winning the toss Paul chose for Darren to go first. Darren Managed to stretch his lead in the first game 4520 v 1640. However, with Paul's break to come this was likely not to be enough. However, Paul was unable to make the most of his break as he only scored 1100 points. the game remained tight until Darren managed to get the break back and score 2000 points which would of put him in control however he pegged and lost the break. Paul Sensed this was his chance and soon overtook Darren's lead, however, he also pegged and lost his break. Darren was then able to finish the table and take what appears and easy win 7820 v 3220
Div 1
In 2 re-arranged games Ben Wilding needed 3 points from his last 3 games to avoid relegation. In the 1st of these games, he lost out to Roy le Page. Both players were looking to make a good impression on the large crowd that had gathered at the Hampshire to watch these pivotal games. This was not the outcome though as both players looked is if they had never seen a table before. How Roy walked away with 3 points is a credit to his dogged efforts winning 6780 v 3360
Ben Wilding now knew the pressure was mounting and he was desperate not to leave his fate until the final week. Playing Matt Wilcox who harbored hopes of an island place still. Matt would need a 3-0 victory and hope for other results to go his way. Ben though put paid to those hopes as he scrapped all 3 points to deny Matt and guarantee safety 9080 v 1440.
Div 2 Only 1 game was played this week as the league due the Knockouts. Bob Mckenzie beat Steve Le Gallez 2-1. Bob had an amazing opening game scoring his best score to date with 7520. Steve fought back though in the second game to take a point finishing with 2150 v 8860.
The 1st division only has 1 more week with all but relegation decided. 1 from Norman Wilkinson, Luke Bush, Leon Ogier, and Darren Pipet to go.
Division 2 still has 3 weeks to play with the title and promotion a tight affair in what looks like any 2 from 3.
Craid Harvey leads the way on 29, Ash Harrison on 27 and Chris Bourgaize on 26 points. Next week could go a long way in deciding their fate as 1st and 2nd play each other at the West Legion.

There was a big shock in the Guernsey Island pairs semi-finals last evening. Second-division player Kyran Perkins and his non-league partner Robbie Help beat the First Division pairing of Matt Wilcox and Darren Ogier. Well done Kyran and Robbie. I don't feel so bad now as they knocked out Claire and me in a previous round. They will face two other current non-league players - Tom and Luke Oliver on our Finals night, Tuesday 25th April at the Hampshire Lodge. Tom and Luke beat previous multiple-time Island pairs winners Paul Dyer and Mat Ogier in the other semi-final.

Division 2
After 14 games Ashley Harrision and Craig Harvey sat on eaqual points at the top of Division 2. Both are now guaranteed promotion to Division 1, however a play off was required to determine the League Champion. Play at the Hampshire on the 11th April.
Craig Triumphed over Ash 3-0 winning 1970 - 810 and 3670 - 200.
On the same evening the final for the Pairs was confirmed with 2 surprising results. In the first game Tom and Luke Oliver beat Mat Ogier and Paul Dyer on aggregate scores. The Highlight with Tom Oliver all but playing the whole 16mins on his break except 3 balls with a score of 8590.
Mat and Paul secure the second game 3570 - 730 but trailed on aggregate Still. Tom and luke extended their lead winning the 3rd game. Paul and Mat now needed to win the final game by more than 9k points. despite winning the last game it was only by a margin of 130.
In the second Semi Final.
Robbie Help and Kyran Perkins brushed aside the far more experienced pairing of Matt Wilcox and Darren Ogier. Despite winning the first game 4090 - 2680 Matt and Darren were not able to push losing 3-1. Kyran Perkins had a solid night scoring some valuable breaks while his Partner ably backed him up. Matt Wilcox also had a solid game but unfortunately his partner Darren Ogier didnt.
The final line up for finals night to be held on the 25th April at the Hampshire Inn has now been confirmed.
