Nomads (1500) | 3 | v | 2 | Horley CC (1000) | Joe | 8650 | - | 2890 | *Roland | Abbey | 530 | - | 2560 | *Benny | Michael | 3970 | - | 8860 | *Alex | Will | 2290 | - | 2230 | *Chris | Jim | 4350 | - | 2810 | *Nev |
Joe returned to the Nomads side as a birthday surprise and a wonderful 5k break and tap put him in firm control of this tie - it was like he'd never been away. 1-0. Benny and Abbey were in a close-fought contest but an unfortunate black peg from Abbey sealed the game as a contest. 1-1. Alex took full advantage of his break with a well-constructed 5k break, and he managed to be the first to get the break again and so extended his lead. Michael's frustration boiled over at times as he ran out of time to be able to chase the target down. 1-2. Next up debutant Will plugged away in a solid fashion but he benefitted from Chris' black peg and - despite a spirited comeback - even a last ball 400 shot couldn't save Chris as he fell 60 short. 2-2. Last up Jim and Nev played the decider and - thankfully for the Nomads adoring home fans - Jim made a couple of handy 1.5k contributions which led the Nomads to a first cup win since the curtailed 2019/20 season. 3-2.

Jolly Bricks (3000) SPCC B (scratch) 2 - 3 Tony 4470 Genette 90 Taz 3580 Denise 6450 John 4030 Martin 2870 Ian 4070 Pete 6200 Peter 3470 Mick 7230
Well our defence of the cup got underway on the tricky Jolly Bricks table and we managed to get a 3-2 win even giving away a 3000 head start on a table where there has been only 2 scores over 4K this season.

SPCC B (0) | 3 | v | 2 | Nomads (1500) | Genette | 7130 | - | 0 | *Bruno | Mick | 4080 | - | 6180 | *Michael | Pete | 5120 | - | 4070 | *JP | Martin | 1980 | - | 4940 | *Abbey | Denise | 8770 | - | 2470 | *Jim |
After locking horns in the league just a week before, the Nomads returned to South Park to try and avenge their recent 3-2 defeat to the buzzy bee team. In this competition they received a 1500 start in each frame, and as the away side had all five breaks, but this would be a tough match to win regardless against the defending champions. First up Bruno took on Genette. Bruno has developed a great fondness for the Salfords Club in recent weeks, beating his high break and score their in two consecutive matches, but South Park didn't provide such happiness. It was cold to start, Genette feeling the need to wrap up warm, and neither player settled - both spurning chances at the break. After several goes though it was Genette who kept her cool under pressure, adding a late 3k break to extend her lead well past Bruno's reach and chalking frame one to the champs. 0-1. Next up was a game of cat and mouse, Mickey Mouse. Michael had the break but immediately spurned it, missing his second split and leaving the red horribly placed behind the 200. As Michael had no intention of moving it, it fell to Mick to do the honours, and after squeaking past the red of one cush on his opening few attempts, bingo struck. The perfect contact sent red into the 50 and white in the 100 and away Mick went. He cleared the rest of the balls with aplomb and set about chasing down Michael's 3k lead. Mick was going serenely and moved into the lead, but having often left the 10 split he got the 1-up spot on for a slightly rarer 100-split. Disaster though, he'd been too delicate and left it short. The question now was who could get the balls back first? Both players had chances, but it was Michael who eventually found the clear and added 2.8k and tap for the frame. 1-1. Third on was JP and Pete. JP started well, adding 1.2k to his score but Pete looked in no mood to lie down. Last week he was brutal in his break building and he looked equally commanding on his way to 4k here. However a misjudged split shot sent the red past the 50, and a failed 20-20 split following that gave JP an in. From here all manner of chaos took place. JP brought Pete's lead down to a couple of hundred. He then made a beautiful near-clearance, only to peg it when it looked certain he'd add plenty to his score. Pete got the balls back and added 1.5k, but then missed a ball behind the 30! Remarkable scenes. Both players continued to get chances, but it was Pete who eventually got the balls back with less than a minute to go, and he mopped up to restore the home side's lead. 1-2. So now the Nomads were in a must-win scenario, and it was Abbey who had to do their first deed against Martin. Abs added a k to her start, but Martin quickly got the break back. We'd settled into our chairs expecting 5/6k and touch but no! The very first one-up saw Martin miscue and Abbey was back on the table. Abs steadily accumulated, with the aid of bonus gravity around the pockets - as opposed to Martin's remarkable anti-gravity around the pockets - and held a 2k lead by the time Martin got the break back. This time Martin would do the business, Michael had looked down at his phone to check the time as Martin played his second one-up of the game - he then looked up in shock to see the white next to the white peg and Martin, looking frustrated, walking away from the table - he'd over compensated for the earlier miscue and hit it thin!! The game wasn't over yet though, and it once again looked like Martin would clear the balls and get chance numero three. But no, the penultimate ball went in and the final ball careered towards the peg, it was knocked over! Abs had the break back with a few minutes to go!! She duly made enough to get past a beleaguered Martin and take it to the decider! 2-2. So, just under a week ago Jim played Denise. He had the break that time, didn't go off with enough and was punished with a faultless 8k from Denise in her only visit. This week, it would be different. Jim was celebrating his 100th birthday, and boy was he in a mood to party. He strode to the table in imperious fashion, lager in one hand, cue poised in the other. Revenge is a dish best served on your birthday. The headlines were ready to be made - the press pack eagerly awaiting the win that would send shock waves through the Redhill League - "Birthday Balchin Demolishes Defending Champs". Sadly Jim was off after a k and Denise replied with 8,290. Good night Vienna and bon anniversaire Jimbob. 2-3. So another great evening with the South Park Bees, they'll be a tough team to beat as the look to defend both of their cup titles, and their now only two wins from retaining the Burwood after disposing of the B-League leading Nomads.

Played tonight, the result a predictable 5-0 to MVC B. Nick lost to Geoff Martin lost to Colin Paul lost to Tony Clive lost to Gary Charlie lost to Bud All games followed the same pattern: good opening break from the visitors, and our 2k handicaps insufficient to mount a decent reply. But an enjoyable evening with chitchat and some good-natured barracking, so well played and good luck to them in the semi-final.

Salfords B (1500) 3 Spcca 2 (scratch)
First up ,Tracy and John. Tracy starting pretty steady and managed to catch up the handicap. John next to get them back and Added a few more to gain a lead. John playing a tricky ball at the back sent the cue ball all round the top and very unluckily hit The black. Balls back again for John and a very good break regained the lead. Bar down and the red right behind the 200 Tracy Went off the side cushion for it but disaster as the black toppled. 1-0
Second me and Mark. My break and off with 5k and tap. Plenty of goes and encouragement for my blind doubles partner. Good Friendly stuff .1-1
Third up and a sigh from Junkie as he drew Dave again. Junkie off early but Dave not cashing in. Plenty of goes each and Dave Got them back. 8k break and off sealed it and he added more later.
Crucial leg 4 for us dc against Tom. Dave not making the most of the break and Tom playing well took the lead plus his start put HI'm in a good position. Dave next to get them back but off again. Tom won last cracking break sealed the game and tie 3-1.
Caroline and Laurie played the last dead leg and a good game it was. Caroline giving Laurie a great game and making a very Commendable 4.5 k.
A lovely evening with Salfords B and a fully deserved win sees them in the semifinals.
