Good night for the defending champs in the Open Doubles. Firstly a 2-0 win at the Alexandra beating Neil & Barney, followed by the same result at the Stags Head taking out Chris & Dan. Nigel &Matthew beat Jim & Mark 2-1 at a very good Vine table also tonight

Excellent, if a little long, evening of bar billiards
In the Open Doubles which was played at the Vine due to the Prince of Wales being shut on Mondays, Nige decided I should go first and was pretty pleased with my opening 8.7k break which gave us the first leg
In leg 2 Mark was off early after over hitting his first one up, Jim was first to get them back and made an excellent break, also close to 9k to make it 1-1
In the decider Nige decided to go first and things looked a bit dicey as a ball ended up behind the left hand 30 but a couple of great recovery shots to get the break back calmed my nerves (and probably Nigel's too). Hardly any further alarms as Nige played the table out for a superb 19,520. Pretty pointless to ever write Jim off but I thought it was a tough ask. However, Jim started off rapidly but, with the red moving sligtly on a break shot he missed said red and was off soon after
Excellent win for the former 2 times champs against extremely tough opponents
Staying at the Vine (for 2 legs) to play the Mixed Doubles Jean and I played Nigel and Michelle (who was struggling for fitness and could hardly walk) - Michelle went first and was off early, Jean got them back but missed a ball on the left hand side and was off and then Nigel got them back, I thought that was that but off at 2k with a missed 20 split, I got them straight back and made enough-ish
In leg 2 unfortunately Jean pegged when looking like settling down, it then became a bit attrional, Nige was first to get them back and did not repeat his mistake of the previous leg making enough
As it was nearing 9.30 and with the Vine closing it was time for a new venue for the decider, we made the relatively short trip to the Alex (after confirminig they were not about to shut) and Nigel decided to go first, he was pretty awesome again running the table out for just over 16k. I had spotted that the one up needed to be thinner as Nige's break progressed but despite noticing failed to adjust and missed it early and that was that. Good luck to Michelle and Nigel in the next round
Thanks to Jean for doing the majority of the scoring in the Open Doubles
I think all present had fears about how the Vine would play but those fears were misplaced as the table was excellent, thanks to Colin for getting it in such good condition. Nigel's one break in the decider not far short of the aggregate score of all the legs from the league match the previous Thursday so a big improvement from then
