Although there are also 7 permanent private halls. 5) A riot at the Swindlestock Tavern between students and townspeople (Town & Gown). It lasted 3 days, and killed 60 students. For 500yrs afterwards the mayor and burgesses of the town were made to attend a service of penance in St Mary's. 7) Tom Tower - 1681-2 8) Studied and gradutaed at Wadham College. 3. Three Anglican bishops were burned at the stake in the 1550s. Thomas Cranmer, Nicholas Ridley, and Hugh Latimer. Martyr's memorial is located at St Giles (Magdalen Street/Beaumont Street/Broad Street Junction). They were executed under the orders of Queen Mary Tudor. The actual burning took place in Broad Street and a cross in the road, made of bricks can be seen there. Not sure about the bonus point, but some interesting thing here is that the Nursery Rhyme 'Three Blind Mice' was written about this incident. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Blind_Mice6. Guess but is it the Bodleian Library.

6. In Christ Church College - which I got from Beefy's clue 'religion' - as the chapel of Christ Church college doubles as Oxford Cathedral. Its Old Library dates back to 1562, whereas KP's Bodleian library - though more impressive - was only founded in 1602. But, wait ! KP appears to have turned up one that pre-dates both ! :o
As for a famous event - it has had several - the most recent being one of the locations for the filming of Harry Potter.

6. The first University library was founded in 1310 in rooms next to the University Church of St. Mary the Virgin. Eventually, the collection grew to such a size that the University decided to relocate it to a new building above the Divinity Schools. This was to be known as Duke Humfrey’s Library, renamed and re-opened on November 8 1602 under the name “Bodleian Library” (officially Bodley's Library).
tommo being quite right that the library has been used in the first two potter movies, for me the fact that it holds Tolkiens Red Book of Westmarch which tells the story of The Lord of The Rings as well as many of his other manuscripts is good enough.

Sorry Kev I forgot to log on.
Hre are the answers as I found them when I researched the web one evening.
1. St Hilda’s
2. After the Black Death in the mid-fourteenth century, much of the north-east corner of the city, behind the double wall, was left derelict, and the City authorities were glad to let William of Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester, develop the land for his 'New College' in 1379.
A condition imposed on him was that the College should maintain the north-east part of the city wall.
3. Bishops Latimer and Ridley were burned at the stake in October 1555, and Archbishop Cranmer followed them in 1556.
The flames from the pyre scorched a set of doors, which are now hung between the quads of Balliol College. The actual site of the burning is marked by an iron cross set in the pavement outside Balliol.
4. 39
5. Town v Gown Riots
6. University Church of St. Mary the Virgin / Bishops Latimer and Ridley, and Archbishop Cranmer, were tried here for heresy in 1555.
7/8 The Sheldonian Theatre (1667) was the first major commission for an aspiring young architect named Christopher Wren. Wren, who was then Professor of Astronomy at Oxford, designed the Sheldonian in imitation of a classical Roman theatre.
9. Italian Job Original
10. The bridge links together the Old and New Quadrangles of Hertford College. Bridge of signs Venice.

I watched the Italian Job on sky Classics the other day and I have been inside the Castle Hotel which has replaced the main block of the prisions inside and the staircase Bridger walks down at the end are still there but closed to the public. I would use them as a fire escape though if I was in there when a fire broke out and may serve this purpose as they have palstic barriers at the top and bottom to prevent access.
