With the table coming out of the Vine and the problem with it being moved I with the agreement of the Blue Anchor have moved the Shield final to the Stags Hrad

Stags Head A 2-3 Stags Head B
Outgoing Worthing League champions take the bragging rights in the local derby winning the Chairmans Cup in a high quality final on an excellent table at the Gardeners
Mark James 4670 - 10,350 Matthew Knight** - not easy going first, fortunately I got away with an early whipped split, all 100s after that making enough first visit and giving Mark no chance, he finished off
**Jim Millward 12,880 - 3420 Phil Osborne - excellent opener and touch from Jim giving Phil no chance. A couple of 10 splits, the rest 100s. Jim was first to get them back, touching up on 2k as his back was giving him grief, Phil finished off
Geoff Jukes 4790 - 9960 Nigel Senior** - No 25k+ from Nige tonight but still looking in awesome form as he made his score and touch, one 10 split, the rest 100s. Geoff finished off
**Ian Lelliott 5170 - 6170 Jean Brackenridge - Ian off before 2k with a missed 10 split. Jean got them straight back, off on 2k. In trying to get them back Ian missed a ball off the right hand cushion, same ball for Jean, an excellent shot to get them back and close on 4k break meant, that despite a turbo 3k from Ian, enough to give us the cup and finish off Jean's excellent season with another fine win
**Martin Smith 16,110 - 3030 Chris Tupper** - excellent run out from Martin, couple of excursions, taking up some time. Tupps went for it but off on 3k
(High breaks - Martin Smith 16,110 - Matthew Knight 10,350 - Jim Millward 10,180 - Nigel Senior 9,960)
First 3 legs all won first hit, fourth the big leg which went our way. As previously mentioned table was excellent, thanks to whoever set it up. Valiant attempt from us to defend our league title, nice to take the Cup by way of consolation
Plenty of good natured banter, thanks to our opponents for an enjoyable night in excellent company

Blue Anchor 2 - 3 Alexandra A
Good night at the Stags Head with the Anchor, lots of friendly banter, plenty of chances for all in a scrappy match, The Anchor going 2 up but unable to turn that into a win.
Andy Farmer-Wright 1790 - 1540 Steve Aylmore *. Steve off early no score when he missed a ball between left hand 30 and 20. Andy made just over 1k when eventually he cleared the balls then turned into a battle at the top end of the table with balls whipping all over the place. Steve kept eating into the lead and had 450 going as the bar was due which would have just put him in the lead but had an awkward one behind the 10 which he missed meaning Andy held on.
Paul Moyes-Robb * 4580 - 2200 James Whittle. Paul opened with 3k and again lots of time spent at top end trying to get the break back and Paul extended his lead. James balls back eventually but no time to catch so Anchor 2 up.
Dave Jones 2810 - 3670 Pete Hickman *. Pete off at 3k, Dave first to get them back but off at 1.4k, Pete then pegged 2k break, Dave balls back but off at 1.3k so Pete hung on to the lead and Alex back in the game.
Liam Hurley * 990 - 5160 Tony Jenner. Liam off early then same pattern as first two games with plenty of balls spinning out and going all over the table. It looked as though TJ going to have one of those nights not being able to get the break back and it looked ominous when Liam did get the break back but again off early. With 4 minutes left and still 500 down (yes TJ had only scored 500) TJ balls back and 4k+ and touch to take it to a decider.
Alan Mepham * 1440 - 3500 Michael Wilson *. Michael to go first and pegged his opening break. Alan even breaks and going well at 4k but pegged it. Play then at top of the table and with 10 minutes gone neither player bothering the scorer as plenty of pegs went flying. Michael eventually got them back and made 3k, Alan balls back with just about enough time but couldn`t repeat his opening break so Michael got us over the line.
Thanks to the Stags Head for providing sandwiches.
So the Shield and 1st division title for the Alexandra A. Thanks to my players (and stand ins) for a good season and hopefully we will find a new home next season but have options where tables are already in and with our team committed to next season already looking forward to some new challenges.
Thank you to all the other teams in the league for an enjoyable and competitive season.
