Results of the Mens Doubles semi-finals, played on a very good table at the Blue Anchor.... First up, Kevin Tunstall & Martin Cole vs Matt Knight & Nigel Senior I wasn't there for the first 2 legs, however from what I was told by Matt.... Leg 1 - Matt came off at around 5k, everyone had a go but Kevin first to get them back making 8k to take the first game against the break. Leg 2 - Martin missed fairly early, Nigel got them back and made a very good 10k and touch to level the game. Into the decider, all I can say is what a classic battle.... Leg 3 (part 1) - Kevin went first, looked very comfortable splitting to the 100 hole although he did pull the red ball just in front of the 50 hole on 2 occasions but immediately cleared to set an imposing target of 21,770. Leg 3 (part 2) - Nigel flew out of the blocks on his chase and played superbly, always on track for time and managed to overtake the target with about 30 seconds to go before the bar dropped in a brilliant performance. On to the 2nd game of the night, tough act to follow the first match.... Gary Ridley & Phil Oakley vs Dave Ingram & Martin Smith (Gary & Phil won the toss and put us in) Leg 1 - Martin took our opening break, he did have a couple of excursions up the table but made a very solid 8k+ to make sure first visit, Gary and Phil both got the break back but came off with about 1.5k each while my contribution was 2 missed balls and 0 points! Leg 2 - Phil made a very good 7k+ opening break playing the 50 hole, he did leave just about enough time to chase the score but I missed first visit and by the time I got the break back towards the end of the leg I only had time to make about 3.5k. So, into another decider and, having just had a go at the break, I decided to go first Leg 3 (part 1) - I am sure that if Matt was writing this report, he would be saying that the first 3-4k was very scrappy and it would certainly be fair to say that I could have come off any number of times, but I managed to settle down and eventually came off about a minute before the bar was due setting a target of 15,250. Leg 3 (part 2) - Gary started well and followed Phil's method of potting rather than splitting, he played the table really well and was just about on target when he passed 5k in about 6 minutes before he had to go up the back of the table and one of the balls came back to knock a peg over to give Martin and I the win. A big thank you to Matt and Nigel for staying to score our match, Tupps for scoring the first match of the night and to the Blue Anchor who very kindly provided pizzas on the night for all of us to enjoy. We look forward to playing Nigel and Matt on Finals night.

A high class evening of doubles at the Blue Anchor by the looks at it with both games having to go to a fourth leg.

Excellent report Dave, I don't like disagreeing with you, so won't! I would certainly have said the early part of your break was scrappy, but to set a target of 15k was a great effort The first match of the night was like bar billiards from another planet. Two amazing players with two incredible breaks. Martin and I were pretty much hopeless bystanders Thanks for getting me out of trouble again Nige, hopefully I will be a bit better in the final! Looking forward to it

Rick and Tony 2 - 1 Dave and Mike
Dave and Mike put us in, my break and with some good fortune we won our break game. Dave then opened the 2nd and he and Mike always in control to make it 1-1. Rick opened with 6.5k, Mike replied with 2.5k. I did not get the balls back but Dave did and needed 4k in just under 4 minutes and made a great effort playing the table out to the last 3 balls and failing by 350 to catch us, Rick missed the ball behind the 30 but the cue ball went in the opposite 30 so game over to out relief. Dave consistently looked comfortable on the table but had trouble keeping the scores. Thank you to Tony Collins and Pete Hickman for scoring and James Whittle, Steve Aylmore, Terry Molloy and Matt Jones for turning up to support.
