Well what a night. Captain Michael had rotated himself out for the visit to Jolly Bricks - rumours were flying about as to why this was, I'll leave it as an exercise to the reader to work out what it was - but he sat there having multiple heart attacks and wishing he was barking out orders on several occasions. First up Mike and Dave faced off, and it was Dave who made the early running. A break of 1500 was enough for a good lead on the typically tricky top, but there was nothing fortunate about the way Mike got back into the contest. Mike was the one more comfortable at the back of the table and so chased down Dave's lead with a well put together break of 1200 to close the deficit to 50. At this point the bar went and Mike returned to the table - could he play it out for victory? Well it looked like he would, making 220 with two balls left on the table and one in hand, but he misjudged a shot of the side cushion. The white slid past the object ball and down the 20. No score. All Dave needed was to clear the last two balls and with a wave of his wonderful wand he waltzed his way to winning, by sinking one down the 20 and making no mistake with the 100 shot. 1-0. So the first game had come down to the very last ball, no such drama was necessary in leg 2. It's worth noting that in the opener the resident pair of dogs had attempted to make the game even harder by positioning themselves close to the table in order to try and steal Abbey's mountain of bar snacks. As they passed between the bar and Abbey's food station they regularly provided a slalom course that had to been negotiated when arriving and leaving the table - the pub-biathlon? Anyhow, thankfully for the players the pub-biathlon was over - although this did mean one of the dogs rudely knicked Michaels seat. He did woof to say "oi I was sitting there", but sadly he failed his dog GCSE and this was rather lost in translation. Anyhow JP and Ian put on another thriller. Both struggled with the break - each taking out the white peg by going outside the RH 50 on the break, but it was Ian who built up and held the lead throughout. JP would never let go - though - and his tenacity brought about another tight finish. He'd got back to the break as the bar went and found himself 100 behind with two white left. One-up and last ball or take the break? Well in the end JP decided the best option was neither of these, as he left both short and gifting Ian the chance to finish the job... But to the astonishment of all he didn't!! JP need to pot one and keep one up - and that's what he did, but the white peg was also over in the process!! So still the 100 diff, Ian just slid too far going for the 100, so would JP go for the glass half-full or half-empty approach? Well he went for the glass overflowing approach and nonchalantly dropped the ball in the 200 to sneak victory from the jaws of inevitable defeat. 2-0. At this point the Nomads felt all five were on. Two tight finishes had gone their way and next up was the Jolly Brick-laying lady herself, Jemima, up against captain John. Now, for both of the keen readers of my posts, you may remember that a certain Mr. Pellett was very proud of his unbeaten home record in interleague at home. That came to an end the other week. On a completely unrelated note, Jemima has never lost at the JB, it's her favourite hunting ground. She'd warmed up well my teaching a young lad at the Garland how to play some shots, the sole problem being that every single demonstration results in no balls being potted - top grade coaching there. Thankfully this thoughtful Jemima paid dividence on the table as she only ploughed through the black peg twice. John on the other hand was the model of Jolly Bricks perfection as he comprehensively demolished coach Jemima, who's rates made sadly have to fall a touch as a result of this maiden defeat at her Jolly Bricks fortress. 2-1. Thankfully for the Nomads their newly crowned World (Plate) Champion was up next, the ever-flamboyant Richard Cox. He faced off against Taz and, as you'd expect, any sniff at the 100 and Richard was onto it in a flash. He was the only person all night to make the table look like it was worthy of South Park as he constantly cleared - three times invoking the Horsham BOOOOOMMM!! Richard, being the man he is, had one last twist in the tail to push the knife of pain firmly back into the onlooking Michaels chest. Despite the balls coming back quickly all evening, Richard was playing confidently - and by that I mean hitting the ball much harder than Mr. Pellett would be happy with at the end of the game with a leg safe. Alas this came to haunt Richard, a ball just caught the 20 pocket and came flying up the table to take out the black!! To make matters worse Taz was 1200 ahead and played the table out to the last ball, which Richard sunk for 200, to bring the game dramatically all square!! 2-2. So a decider it was. Abbey was grateful to once again play in a deci... ah no I'm sorry I've got that all wrong. Abbey was apoplectic that she was once again subject to the deciding frame tension and blamed Michael for putting her last again in the random draw. Unfortunately Michael doesn't have the magical powers necessary to force who plays where, so maybe, just maybe, our good friend the BB Wizard had come to town. Anyway Abbey was against Bob - who was returning from 8 weeks out - and she played a fine game of weakest link bar billiards - banking at every opportunity and voting off a fellow player every time a break broke down. Ah sorry I should apologise - the latter is not true, although it doesn't take too much thought to work out who she'd be voting off as the weakest link. This performance saw Abbey over the line, another good match display from the Nomads most improved player of the year. 3-2. So a quite crazy night at the Jolly Bricks. Two last ball finishes and a torrential downpour of black pegs made sure the captain was not given an easy night off, but with Salfords B overcoming Horley CC 3-2, the Nomads sneak into the top half of the table as they seek to secure promotion back to Division 1.

Spcc A 5 Mvc A 0 John 14480 Colin 220 Tracy 7130 Jeff 1640 Junkie 6610 Benny 1480 Dave 2800 Neil 1240 Tracy 4920 Chris 3880
Tracy on as 4 player with no first break in either leg.
Yours truly on first with our only break of the night v Colin. Off first on our great top and a couple of excursions up the table But split it up to 7k and touch. Colin one chance and I got them back and played to the bar with another 7k plus. A tough workout For my dodgy shoulder.
Game 2 Tracy and Jeff and Jeff off early giving Trace a good chance and she made a steady 3k . Plenty of goes each and Tracy Cleared them and another great 3k sealed it for a deserved win 2-0.
Up third Junkie and Benny..Benny on with first start but left his one up short. Junks making a steady start took the lead. Benny Not getting going and Junkie in great form at the moment added another 4k to put the frame out of benny's reach 3-0 and a Terrific start for us.
Game 4 DC and Neil and Neil's break. A steady opening from Neil made a good start and Dave struggling the game got a bit tied up. Eventually Dave got them back but uncharacteristly was off early. Neil going along well but an unlucky miss and he lost 1500. Dave Another chance but to no avail the game was getting tense . Neil clearing down to one tight ball behind the 10 and disaster for him Knocking the black over. Reprieve for Dave and at last made enough.
Last but not least Tracy on for her second game of the night but having to concede the break. Chris off fairly early but no advantage And the leg was pretty level for a while. Chris playing well next to get them back and made a Uuseful 2k to regain the lead. Pressure on and Tracy playing some great stuff cleared up and played it out to take a tight leg.
Incredibly 5-0 what result for us. A Marvellous win with only 4 players because Vern and Loz were sidelined ill. Cracking performance from Tracy winning both legs and Yet another fine frame by Junkie. A big big thanks to Les Hill of Reigate ex who sat in the scoring seat all night (our lucky omen of the night) Thanks to Jeff and the merstham lads for a great night. Bigger thanks go to our B side nicking 3 points off Merstham B to give us a great Chance of the title. Its going down to the wire.

That would have been good, but I hadn't even realised that this was post 4-pin/Kent when deciding the team 😂😂 Another go, then: You didn't want the risk of almost losing to "Wobbly", so thought you'd afford that privilege to Daunting Dave instead ??

Another good effort - Dave did his very best but didn't quite manage it.

(played Wed 10th May - the last game of a long season) Reigate Ex-Servicemans 2 Old Oak 3 *Bobbie 2090, Paul 2470 Barry 3600, *Rebecca 330 Les 980, *Martin the Magnificent 6920 *Maria 990, Nick 1080 Barry (4-plyr) 5280, *Clive 3720
Well, this turned out to be quite eventful for a match with nothing resting on it. Paul was on the table at the right time at the end to deny Bobbie; Rebecca and Margo drew lots for who had to play as Charlie was working - and Rebecca drew the short straw; Les was kept off the table and denied the chance to shine; Maria and Nick were like two droplets easing down a window pane - the lead must have changed hands a dozen times before Nick potted the 100; And I was punished for wildly missing my opening shot and was soon 3.5k down. Same as last night, I just managed to get my nose in front, only to let Barry (Thunderbirds villain that he is) in with a last rally and he proved he was up to the job.
