Nomads | 2 | v | 3 | SPCC A | JP* | 630 | - | 9350 | Laurie | Max* | 3950 | - | 3100 | DC | Michael | 210 | - | 10460 | *Vern | Abbey* | 4460 | - | 4940 | Junkie | Dave | 7820 | - | 5080 | *John |
After the Nomads had done SPCC A a favour the week previous by beating MVC B, it was now their turn to press home that change in momentum. The first game lived up to that billing, JP off early and Loz was in no mood to much about. Second visit to the table and the Horsham BOOM was in order, red down the hundred and whites in 30 and 20 to get the break. From there on there was only the one winner as Loz put up 6590 and tap to seal frame one, before adding a few more to almost reack 10k. 0-1. Next up the every-happy Max against the ever-green DC. Max - as is usual - didn't take advantage of his break. 1k pegged and DC got the break back. But DC was playing the South Park table and not hitting the ball, and so came off with less than a 1k up. DC had been running rings around Max all night with his little jokes and pranks, but Max has forged a reputation on the table of never knowing when he is beaten, and a superb clear meant he got back to the break. Despite a few visits to the back Max had put 3.5k up, a lead of 2.5k with 2 minutes to go, which DC couldn't catch despite his best efforts. 1-1. Third on was the captains battle, but this game was all about Vern. He settled into the table quickly and racked up 6.2k to open. With just over six minutes left Michael had one chance, but the balls at the back wouldn't go down and Vern duly cleared up and sailed into the Redhill sunset with another 4k. 1-2. Third on was Abs against Junkie. Abbey got off to a good start putting almost a k on the board and Junkie seemed to struggle to get going. The table was quickly loaded with five balls covering the baize, but this was no problem for Abs who cleared wonderfully and set about composing a score for Junkie to chase. It really was Abbey-hour as she racked up a Div B ladies high home break of 3430, leaving Junkie six minutes to make up 4k. Junkie got the balls back straight away and was steady in the chase. the Nomads held their breath but Junks was unflappable, a wonderful 4.5k break to the bar and just beyond was enough to just put the frame out of Abbey's grasp. Match of the night. 1-3. Finally two old foes faced off in John and Dave. This was a chance for SPCC A to make a real statement 4-1 win, but Sleezy broke down early on with his shoulder twinge getting the better of him. The wizard made no mistake, clearing up first time and making 7740 and tap to pull one back for the Nomads, despite a couple of light one-up shots which caused a smirk to flash across his steely face. John got them back and added 4.5k to finish the match, but sadly for him it was too late. 2-3. So a cracking evening with South Park As and the Garland top playing beautifully. It definitely benefitted from Dave's special seed that he spread before the match - it made sure the holes clung on to any balls that came into their reach.

Fixtures for 21/03/2023: Old Oak v Salfords A - postponed by Salfords (Covid outbreak)Visited the Oak last night anyway, shocked to find that the table had been vandalised (rip in cloth alongside the D). Honestly, the mentality of some people ! Chief suspects: certain rowdy football supporters watching the United v Fulham match at the weekend. Our captain has made a running repair, which I must say is cosmetically very good, and thankfully play does not seem to be affected.

MVC A v MVC B 2-3 Another tough night for us. Wins for myself, Colin and Tony. The home teams winners were Benny and Jeff. Enjoyable night and a fine spread of nibbles afterwards. The lead is still only 2 points with 4 to go. It’s going to be close finish.

Old Oak 3 Salfords A 2 ( - previously p'pd, played on 9th May)*Charlie 3060, Josh 1410 (Charlie's best game of the season, although the lack of showboating like at the Garland would negate my claim)Clive 3300, *Linda 3620 (Linda keeping me off the table with careful play until the last few minutes: with the bar imminent I overtook but pushed my one-up past - d'oh !)Paul 3830, *Zoe 880 (Zoe had as much table time as Paul but couldn't hold on to her scores) Martin 3080, *Teri 1310 ( Martin - o ur best player this season - not phased at having to play an England International)*Nick 1320, Trevor 5000 (Nick almost managed to keep our score sequence going but lost nearly 2k at the end; the usual solid game from Trevor who insists that will be his swansong for the foreseeable future) A surprise visit from DC bearing tidings of Merstham's 5-0 victory which captured the League title. Further motions to be gone through tomorrow night at Horley.
