With the final night of the season upon us, both Horley and the Nomads were looking to confirm there place in Division A for next season. The Nomads needed just a point, while Horley's task was more complicated with Salfords B and MVC A tonight facing off and only a point and a half behind. First up Alex had rather played down Luke's prospects, suggesting to Michael that he didn't need to go to hard against the returning Luke. Initially he seemed to have a point, Luke left both balls short on the break, and Michael cleared at the second time of asking to put up 2k. Luke was in no mood to roll over though, expertly clearing and getting within a couple of hundred of Michael's score. Luke continued to play better at the back of the table, and once again got the break back, but he came off on just under 1k with a 700 lead. Michael saw his opportunity and pounced with a steady 2.8k, reverting to tapping to the 50 rather than splits, and touched to get the first leg of the night on the board - thus confirming the Nomads would both be Div B champions and promoted for next year. 1-0. Next up Nev and Jemima. This game was a rather scrappy affair, with Jemima very much starting how she'd like to finish - taking out the peg, black peg, on her opening shot. There was alot of play at the back of the table with Jemima edging into the lead, before one of the most typical breaks I've seen from the Nomads Foster-filled lady. Clearing the balls Jemima set about a lovely break to finish the game, just over 3k as the bar went, only to peg it with just two balls left! Thankfully it was a white peg this time, and with Nev 270 behind and the final ball awkward, the Nomads got their second leg on the board. 2-0. With Horley having to play title chasing MVC B in their catch up game, they knew they'd need some points from this encounter to retain their status in Division A. Aaron seemed the perfectly player to get them back on track - such is the rich vein of form he has been in this year - but he struggled to start with Abbey stretching out a lead of up to 1k at a point. Aaron battled though and brought this back and, after taking advantage of an opportunity to easily clear the tricky balls in the centre of the table, Aaron got the break back for the first time and made enough to keep just as the bar went. 2-1. Fourth on cue-y Chris took on peggy Palmer in what promised to be a close affair. Early on Chris made a good break of 1.6k to take a sizeable advantage, but JP pegged him back to a deficit of just 700. A battle at the back was on and Chris looked like he'd won it, clearing all the balls bar one which agonisingly rolled back over the baulk line!! JP had the break, with three minutes left, and a chance to overhaul Chris. But the table was playing quick, and JP just put the break down four times!! A gift that Chris was only too pleased to taking, making enough to put the game just beyond the reach of his opponent. 2-2. So, down to a decider. Could Dave produce his magic? Could Roland take him down firing his muskets? Well, we were soon to find out. Dave started steadily, but was caught out on a shade under 2k, leaving the split dangling on the 100 hole. He went for it of the cushion, but missed, leaving him with an opener of none - a wonderful use of his first Redhill break!! Thankfully for the resident wizard though, he summoned some sorcery - firstly conspiring for Roland to somehow pot off the cush but not clip the hanging ball and then sink a 100-30 off the cushion at his next attempt. The BBWizard then went about setting a score, and despite a few trips to the back early on, settled into a good rhythm. With time to touch in site, Dave cast his mind to the Redhill website, "Michael Wilson appears too many times on the Div B board" a ghostly voice said, indeed that ghost was right and inspired Dave to such up on 6530 - 200 beyond Michael's neutral break mark. A cheeky grin from Dave towards his captain confirmed he knew what he was doing and Michael later said "I knew that was low-hanging fruit!" Roland went on to play the table out for 2k, with the target out of reach. 3-2. So a twelfth win of the season for the Nomads confirmed their status as Division B champions and that they will end up in fifth place after a fabulous season. Horley meanwhile will still be fighting for their Division A place as they now sit on 51.5pts, with Salfords B a shade ahead on 52pts after a 4-1 victory over MVC A. And they have to play the title-chasing MVC B, who will need four frames to become champions again after a 5-0 victory over Salfords A. That is no doubt a game that many will be looking forward too!!

SPCC A 4, Old Oak 1 *Tracy 3540, Martin 6240 (Tracy unlucky in spilling a good break on her second visit, Martin careful not to do the same) DC 5630, *Nick 3290 (an excellent performance from Nick which contained a couple of split shots and also red into the 200 hole - DC in no mood though to let this one slip) Laurie 6630, *Clive 3800 (I started well enough with just short of 3k before running a one-up too far, then choosing the wrong shot to keep going. Laurie's reply was a mere 1.5k but, when I failed to clear, nailed me with a good break of 5k) *John S 7330, Paul 1440 (One-way traffic this one, John even allowing himself the luxury of a pegged break at the end which would have taken him past the 10k mark) John M 5960, *Charlie 200 (A solid performance from the Junkmeister, ably assisted by his opponent who put the break down 4 times - twice !!)
So a fairly predictable result which leaves things in Merstham hands, although South Park have points in the bag. An enjoyable evening, enhanced by DC's progressive music selection, and some nice filled rolls from Junkie's mum. Thanks for the concern as I had to sit down sharply at the end of the evening - had zigzags which I'm told is nothing more than a mild migraine.

If I'd known that was going to happen I would have tried a bit harder last night !

Spcc A 4 Old Oak 1
Thanks Clive for a lovely write up on last night's match and glad you're feeling ok all the team will be happy to hear that I know we Were concerned mate. A good win for us in the end. We certainly felt the pressure to get as many legs as we could not helped by losing our first break game. Martin playing a great leg. DC then feeling it against Nick who played really well. Yourself cruising along unlucky not to make more. Second week running lucky enough to have the first break on our lovely top. It still may not be enough to take the title but we have given it our best all season only losing 2 matches and beating Mvc B twice. It's just unfortunate last night's final weeks scheduled matches didn't settle the title. Mvc B need to beat Horley Cc in their rearranged game 4-1 to pinch it.
