An excellent day of bar billiards ended with Mark Trafford being crowned the Bucks Open champion, well done to him. Mark James was runner-up continuing his very good form this season, well done to him too. Mark T beat Stuart Carruthers in one semi final and Mark J beat Joe Oakley in the other. Both had excellent days with Joe chasing down a 20k target with the last ball to beat Martin Cole in an earlier match and Stu knocking out Kevin Tunstall and making a 20k break earlier in the day
Back to the final, Mark T won the toss (he won them all)! Mark J first to go and made 6k before coming off, Traff got them straight back but was off fairly quickly, Mark J made a very good clearance and was close to 10k up at the end of the first leg. An excellent opener of nearly 16k with hardly any alarms gave Traff a deserved win. He played extremely well all day and did not miss in any of his break legs
In the Plate Jon Scoones beat Stuart Mepham in a quality final. Jon played extremely well in the first leg leading by over 12k. With his opening break Stuart had just got level, but, in leaving an awkward ball down the middle, pegged and that gave Jon the title, well done to both players. Jon beat Jason Neal in his semi final (Jase came from nearly 19k down to beat Matt Jones in the previous round) and Stu beat Chris Cox in his semi final
Mark Trafford won the Mens High Break - a superb 23,080 Caroline Jones won the Ladies High Break - a brilliant 5770
The tables were extremely good, all offering different tests, there were at least 4 breaks over 20k and 10 others over 15k, testament to the hard work and time put in by Matt Jones. Thank you to him, Cliff Slade, Richard Hawes and others who help get them set up, ready for play and then taken down again
A few thank yous to end with, the club for hosting us and James for all his hard work with the food Dawn for her tireless work with the entries and the raffle with an amazing £365 raised, also thanks to those who generously donated raffle prizes Finally, to Nigel for all the formats and organisation on the day, ensuring everything ran smoothly
Hope everyone had an enjoyable day

Silent's excellent and comprehensive summary leaves me with very little to add, apart from a mention for himself, manning the admin desk with Nigel, acting as runner and mastering the proceedings. Well done also to Dawn for the raffle which raised (I think) £365. And in the words of Brucie "didn't he do well ?" .... beat Paul Sainsbury and then Nigel before losing to the eventual winner.
There were a few more stunning performances, Simon Coleman's early 19k break and K.T. chasing down a formidable target set by Martin Smith, managing 18990 as the bar went. He then succumbed to the excellent Carruthers (who earlier beat Daniel Wheal, Melvyn Johnson and Steven Sheard) in the quarter-final.
As with the recent Oxon, it was good to see many locals supporting their own event, with three of them (John Miller, Terry Isard and Peter Godden) making the last sixteen. And I agree that the tables were excellent - especially AEBBA Table 1, recently re-clothed by Matt J.

A massive thank you to all of you who came to our Open yesterday - we hope you enjoyed it.
Thank all the staff at the Totteridge Community Centre for all your hard work.
Well done to Mark Trafford on winning, Mark James for getting to the final and to Stuart and Joe the losing semi-finalists. Congratulations to Jon Scoones on winning the plate and to Stuart Mepham the losing finalist.
I especially want to congratulate Caroline Jones on her 5,770 highest ladies break, her first time of winning a highest break - well done.
Thank you to Cliff, Richard, Craig and especially Matt for setting the tables up, all the people who donated prizes, Pauline, Gina, Jenny & Jean for folding the tickets, Nigel for doing the format AGAIN, the people who scored through the day, and to everyone who helped us take the tables down on Sunday evening (especially Steven Sheard & Stuart Carruthers) and lastly to Nigel & Matthew, who without hesitation agreed to run it for us again - you were both amazing - please can you keep Sunday 4th August free next year ;)
See you all soon Dawn
