Good evening everyone, Apologies, I thought I had posted these already but an eagle eyed Jersey colleague spotted that I hadn't. Room rates for the tournament this year are as follows. It is important to note - these have to be booked via phone, as 'Bar Billiards' needs to be mentioned, otherwise you will be advised that the hotel is either full, or closed. All room prices are quoted on a minimum 2 nights B&B (no half-board), per night, and all need to be pre-paid in advance. - £75 for a double or twin room
- £85 for a triple room
- £130 for a family room (2 adults and 2 children (not 4 adults))
As per recent years, the rooms shall not be serviced but if new towels etc are required then housekeeping can be called, whom shall then resolve. In relation to food/beverage - the usual venues of Bonettis, the 'Diner', Sunday lunch and the upstairs and downstairs bars will be available. Should you have any questions on the above then please do send me a PM. Sean

If anyone else is wanting to stay at the Merton on the Monday evening then please do let me know ASAP, as we require another 5 rooms to ensure I can persuade the hotel to remain open the extra day.
Thanks everyone.

Good evening,
Unfortunately, due to an insufficient number of players advising they wish to stay an additional night the Merton will not be offering to stay open on the Monday evening. I can only offer my apologies to those individuals who were hoping that would occur.
On a separate note, I have been advised by the Merton that scaffolding will be present around the hotel over the weekend, although they expect no work to occur from the Friday evening through to the Monday morning. Any work on the other days will also be finished prior to 4:30pm. The hotel have advised that, where possible, all rooms booked will be placed away from the scaffolding to reduce disruption.
If you have any question on the above, do PM me.

Hello everyone,
I have today received confirmation from the Merton that
- The usual food venues and opening hours will be again active for this years tournament - The Seymour Group 'discount card' for food and drink will be available for all attendees to use - Sunday lunch will be available; just for us, at a discounted price - Real Ale is once again back - again at a favourable price (much cheaper than in town) - NEW FOR THIS YEAR - the hotel have confirmed that they will open up the 'Sports bar' (at the top of the metal stairs), which will allow 'Pool', 'Darts' and 'Table Football' games to be played (the bar in there will be shut but you can take your drinks from the main bar in there).
I am working on the final timings of the event at present and shall post these on the 'draw' chat once I have finished them.
If you have any questions on the above, do PM me directly and I shall respond.
See you in a couple of weeks.
Sean

I have just received an email from the Merton, stating that the organisers wish to know the personal details of who is staying there for the competition. Is this a scam ? Never been asked this before. Does this go against data protection rules ?

It says that Sean wants to know who is attending but if we’ve entered the comp and are in the draw then surely Sean knows…

Try giving them a ring? on a known genuine number? not one from the email.

Perhaps they are just checking that the guests booked in are all Bar Billiards players or family members.

Good evening,
This is information we have had delivered to us for the last 10+ years and it is data we can leverage to increase/challenge the sponsorship we receive from the Merton Hotel annually.
This year the Merton have stepped up their G.D.P.R. (although Jersey, Guernsey and IOM don't have G.D.P.R. law, we have a Data Protection law instead) by employing a Data Protection Officer to ensure their data records are maintained and disclosed correctly. This is why individuals have been e-mailed advising of our annual request.
Please note, the tournament directors (Graeme and I) do not use your names for any other reasons. If you do not wish your data (name) to be held by us after the close of the tournament then please do let me know directly via PM.
I hope this clarifies but do let me know if you want a direct discussion.
Regards Sean

Very interesting evening and day - Force 12, a tornado, hail stones 5 inches wide, biggest gust of 102mph and huge damage in St Clements and islandwide. Whilst massive losses of personal items for individuals, importantly, not one life lost (apart from a Flamingo at Jersey Zoo who died of old age).
Rest of the week and through to Tuesday is F6 to F8 winds, so all good for flying. See you all very shortly.

Wow, Jersey took the brunt. Scary stuff ! Southern coastal towns here took a battering as well, I saw one horrific clip of a car being washed out to sea.
Is the Merton okay with its scaffolding ? (Asking for a friend)

(Asking for a friend) Yes, all good. The hotel are going to try and keep all parties rooms away from those where scaffolding is outside the window, where possible. Sean
