As the hot summer comes to a close continues the Redhill Bar Billiards season kicked off with the Bill Burwood Cup and it's fair to say some people still need to blow off the cobwebs after too much time in the sun. Up first was everyone's favourite pin-up girl, Jemima, against the mighty Loz and Jim's start was certainly flaky, adding a k to his handicap but not much more. Laurie took his time to get going but geared up once he cleared up and set about making a 4.5k break that seemed to be enough. However he didn't bet on the fostered-Jim slipping into his long dress and sipping a pornstar martini to cruise back. She got back to the break and timed her run superbly, gliding to the front as the bar went - an unbelievable sight! Despite a slight hiccup at the end when she took a sip from the old Fosters glass rather than the cocktail one but she managed to slide across the line and put the Nomads one up! 0-1. So the Nomads were now in command with four breaks to come, but Captain Wilson - soon to be demoted back to Sergeant if this performance is anything to go by - stuttered at his first split, missing both balls. Thankfully Ricky wasn't in his best form so just a nigh on faultless 9.3k and touch for the leg. Sergeant Wilson had a quick conversation with the balls "would you mind awfully going in?". Well they did but a peg also went over first shot so another 5 and a bit k later the Sergeant went to shake Dewdney Junior's hand - a decent debut! 1-1. Next up Abbey faced her once coach, DC, who was clearly delighted to have two new teammates in which he could show his repertoire of tricks too. Abs started by far the stronger, racking up a further 3k on top of her handicap in a couple of visits and looking by far the stronger. DC had got the break back once but shanked his split - ala the Sergeant. But he found his gear, initially grinding but eventually finding his way to 5.5k and touch to chalk up a second leg in the home teams ledger. 2-1. So it was now make or break for the Nomads, JP had started last year incredibly strongly but young Sleezy - who was celebrating his 21st birt 93rd birthd birthday, take your guess of age below! The closest will win a prize so get your guesses in!!! Anyway Sleezy's birthday treat was to rack up a 6k and touch break to win and then a following 4k to put the tie to bed. 3-1. The dead rubber was then played as the BBWizard turned up to the baise and quickly built up a 6k lead, but Tracy got into her stride and chased strongly, in fact without the handicap it is quite possible that South Park would have chalked a fourth leg, but alas that was not to be. 3-2. So an entertaining start to what will hopefully be another good season - well done to South Park and good luck in the QFs, we Nomads shall rest and vow to take an extra frame when it comes to the league!

Spcc A 3 Salfords Y 2
Dave 7680 Baz 2040 Laurie 7080 Anita 2470 Ricky 11480 Nev 3480 John 5080 Mark 10950 Tracy 2510 Karen 4320
First up Dc and Baz and Bazs break with 1k handicap. Baz of early hitting the break a little thin was under pressure from the start. Dc next to get the balls back but not playing his most fluent caught up. A few more goes each and Dave cleared up and back to normal 5k and tap put him in control. Baz adding a few at the end. 1-0
Game 2 and Loz and Anita on. A potential tough leg for us as Anita plays our top really well, so a surprise when a whipped 50 took the Black out. Laurie playing some good stuff is in good form and wasn't going to let Anita back in. A very good 5k and touch put him in Control a.nd ran out a good winner and a pivotal win. 2-0
Third up Nev and Ricky with Nev having to win or match over. Nev making a fair start adding to his handicap. Ricky not having much luck Struggling to clear the balls. Eventually Ricky cleared up and a very good 6k and tap put us within sight of the match. Nev next to get them back Added to his score before one last home break was enough for the leg and tie 3-0.
Me and Fritz next and nothing on it but what a leg. Pretty simple Fritz on terrific 10k break and unlucky not more. Not much time but I Ran it out with 5k. One shot each 3-1
Last but not least a ladies match to round the evening off. Tracy and Karen. Plenty of goes and chances for both players a good scrap Took place . Neither player getting a good lead until Karen cleared up and made a match winning break 3-2
A very good win for us against the Y's who are always tough opponents, especially having all the breaks and a start. A terrific break from Mark and some clinical play in the first 3 legs enabling us to get over the line. A nice evening with good friends.

Burwood Cup Semi Final
Mvc B 1 Spcc A 4
Tony 4480 Ricky 8390 Colin 350... John .7110 Gary 6230 Dave 7180 Bud 1290 Dick 3930 Geoff 5910 .....Tracy 4010
First up Tony and Ricky . Ricky's break and oh dear hit it like he' was still playing the Railway the previous night Whack and both balls flew out the 50's. Tony straight.on balls back. Although not at his best 4k break going one Pfor shot and Off. Ricky's chance but had to it. Head down total concentration and he played it out with 8k to the Dflight of his teammates.
Second up Me and Colin again for the umpteenth time. Knew I couldn't give Col an early chance and took it very Steady. Combination of 100 and 10 splits.and some careful 50 play and I made near 7k and tap. Colin needed Them back quickly but it wasn't happening . Some top of the table tip tap and leg was mine 2-0 A great start.
Game 3 and a pivotal leg saw good buddies Dc an gary go head to head. Pressure right on.both players but Dave playing some real steady.stuff like myself a mixture of splits and pots got to 7k + before tap and off. Leaving Gary only some 5 odd minutes it was a tough call. An amazing flying, fault free break saw Gaz play it out with 6200. 900 short, one shot each. Frame Match and Final spot was ours to a volley of cheers.
Game 4 Bud and Dick and had to follow that wonderful leg. Plenty of goes and a bit of a struggle for both players. Game a bit nip and tuck till Dick made a few at the end. 4-0.
Last but not least Geoff and Tracy. Tracy's break and as she's been doing for some time sailed perfectly up to 4k. Caught in two minds which way to split she chose wrong and off. A few more shots each and Geoff first to get Them back..A very good near.6k break and the leg was his. A consolation frame.
A great evening at mvc competitive games amongst good mates. 2 legs one shot each and some terrific play under Pressure. A fantastic result for us on a very good top where as a team we were right on our A game. That made it Two cup finals this year. Thanks to Colin for a lovely spread of food.

Semi-Final played 29th Apr @spcc South Park CC B 5, Old Oak BFZ - oh well, we may as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb..... We were completely outplayed tonight despite having the break plus 2000 advantage. Martin P bt Rebecca Denise bt Paul Pete (also known to Nick as 'Bob') bt Martin G in a close one. Great play-out at the end by Pete. 3-0. then: Genette bt Nick Mick (8k) bt Clive (6k). Exhibition stuff from Mick from 6k behind, mainly 50/10 splits. (Scores to follow)
So once again an all-South Park final over 2 legs: should be fun !
