Salfords A 2, Old Oak 3 *Sheila 1030, Paul 3380 *Bobbie 1030, Clive 2480 *Les 4120, Martin 3010 *Barry 1850, Charlie 2470 Teri 1490, *Nick 1110
A rare away win for Quercus. First two games were close, all four players having to deal with a profusion of balls at the back of the table. In the third, a magnificent break from Les half way through left Martin a mountain to climb - which he nearly managed. A superb effort from Charlie in the fourth, Barry playing well but Charlie stealing the game with his last visit. A game of Snakes and Ladders in the last for Nick, two useful 500 'ascents' but finding a dirty great snake both times. Teri won with steady play. Nick potted a last ball 200 to reach his thousand so went home happy.

Nomads | 1 | v | 4 | SPCC A | Jim* | 450 | - | 3650 | Laurie | Michael | 3300 | - | 1300 | *Tracy | Dave | 970 | - | 6540 | *Ricky | JP* | 670 | - | 4550 | Sleezy | Max* | 1600 | - | 5480 | DC |
A humbling home night for the Nomads as they rue missed opportunities to be runaway Christmas chart toppers. With this match rearranged from last Tuesday the Nomads looked like they were getting off to the perfect start with Jim flying high with the break. The 1000s were ticking off up to 4.7k, where Jim rather nonchalantly bashed in the break at a million miles an hour, cue giggles all around. Jemima though took this opportunity to rear her head, and made Jim forget how many times he'd done the break. Dave let him know it was once, but Jim couldn't stop Jemima from thrusting the cue forward without aiming... both balls missed the 50s, the white flew into the white peg. Disaster. Loz got them back but could only add a k and a half, giving Jim a chance. He'd recovered from Jemima-related disaster multiple times this season, but she would not let him go and Loz was the only one to get the break back.. adding another k and a half late on to sneak the visitors ahead. 0-1 So after a disastrous start for the Nomads, Michael was looking to settle the nerves. He got the early chance required as Tracy pegged her opener - but he left the one-up in a tempting situation for the 100 (but easy 10), didn;t commit to either and was off. From there a game of who can get the balls back started, with all eight balls on the table at one point, but after both had chances Michael got them back and squeaked over the line with 2k and touch. 1-1 Next up was the big one, Ricky v Dave. Ricky was off on the first split, caught at by the slight drift on the 20 split. But Dave couldn;t get them back. They both did their level best to get them back, but Dave managed to push balls that looked nice into tough spots and it was Ricky got them back. He could only add 3k though, and Dave had the chance to chase with six minutes still on the clock... the balls still wouldn't drop for him though leaving him rather squeakily voiced. Ricky reluctantly made a 1k break on the 50 hole, bemoaning the fact his dad would have given him 50 lashes on the way home (reading between the lines that's what would have happened anyway) if he hadn't run the clock down - quite an amusing exchange. 1-2 So the Nomads need some rearguard action and JP started brightly. At 1k though disaster struck, the red went just beyond the 50 on the break and his recovery shot just lipped the 50 hole, catching the red thick and into the peg. Sleezy got them straight back but he failed to capatalise fully, coming off with only a k. JP looked like he could get them back, but like Jim and Dave before him the balls were not his friend and that last shot never quite went. Sleezy wasn't going to give JP any more chances and wrapped the leg up with another couple of k at the 14 minute mark, match win to the South Park crew. 1-3 So could the Nomads salvage some pride? Well Max had rather forgotten that the Garland top is far from the quickest, leaving both balls short on the break! (three breaks, zero points scored for us... SP has two and managed 600...) DC didn't punish Max though, and added just 1k when he got them back. Max, though, was having a nightmare and he was struggling for any rhythm. DC was happy to wait for his chance, and at about the 12 minute mark he got them back, made a steady 2k and tap to leave them awkward. Max tried to get them back, but it was too late and DC had took out the U30s champ. 1-4 So a nightmare final two games for the Nomads before Christmas, taking three points out of ten, sees their lead significantly cut to just four points ahead of both SPCC A & B. SPCC A matched MVC Bs 4-1 win at the Garland, which keeps them truely in the chase as the Nomads will hope they can winter well and come back in 2024 firing on all cylinders again after a rather horrid December.
