The new 2023/2024 bar billiard season began on the 12th September. The league continues to grow and we have now expanded both divisions, division one now has 16 players and 21 players in the second division, an increase of 8 players from last season, with 4 new lady players. We have also added a new venue to the league with the fontaine returning to be a league venue again. With the added enthusiasm and extra practice the new season has started well, and as expected a number of players are now posting some high scores, in both divisions. The golden boy of Guernsey Barbilliards and one of 4 Ogiers in division 1, Leon Ogier leads the way after 2 weeks and leads division one. He has amassed some big scores over both matches and has an aggregate of 19,940 and 5 points. Second place is occupied by Roy Le Page also on 5 points and an aggregate only slightly behind 19,250. Matt Ogier sits in 3rd place also on 5 points, he who defeated the recent summer league winner Ian Champion 2-1 in a close match in week 2. With both players recording high breaks in their respective l egs, Champion kicked off with a break of 9060 in the first leg only to watch Ogier hit back with a break of 9080 in the second leg and take the match 10160 - 9180 Paul Le Gallez sits in 4th spot with 4 points after defeating Paul Dyer 12350 – 770 in the first week but struggled in the second week against Geoff Ogier who was returning to Bar Billiards after being forced into a short break due to illness last season. Geoff has come back strong this year taking down son and island player Darren Ogier 3-0 in the game, Le Gallez the Guernsey masters champion had to drop the last ball down the 200 hole to take the match with a points total 7980 - 7900 to win by 80 points.
The second division is also shows they are reaping the rewards of players practicing more as it also had a number of high-scoring results. Clive Fallaize heads the 2nd division with 6 points, after beating Steve Le Gallez 3-0 with scores of 5650 – 1600 in week 1 also winning 3-0 in week 2 against against newcomer Alisha Ford with another high score of 6170 – 1900. With the return of league barbilliards to the Fontaine new Landlord James Ferbrache has taken to the game like a Pro, he is sitting second also on 6 points after winning both his matches 3 – 0 with scores of 4670 – 1170 and 4910 – 2070 over Len and Annie Harvey respectively. Nick Ogier who has returned to the league after a number of years away from the game he has 4 points so far but has recorded the highest score in the second division in week 1 with a score of 14190 points.

The 24th October saw the start of the Pair KO
In the only pre-lim round a family affair saw Father and Son Leon Ogier and Blake Beat Sister-in-law and niece Carla Allen and Aleish Ford. They were unable to progress any further as another family team of Nick Ogier and his grandad Colin De Jersey. Colin came out of retirement to help them progress to the second round.
Former teammates from the Breakaways met at the West Legion with Darren Ogier and Matt Wilcox beating Roy Le Page and Geoff Ogier. All 4 games went with the break however with Darren and Matt slightly ahead on aggregate after 2 games Darren Opened up with a 12,830 break in the 3rd Game. Now 2-1 up Roy and Geoff needed to win by 14,360 to progress in the 4th Game. Unfortunately, Roy Le Page broke down after 2,800. Darren and Matt now knew all they had to do was run the clock down. despite losing the last game 6360 to 0 Darren and Matt ran out aggregate winners with just under 8k advantage
2 of the inform league players Paul Le Gallez and Ian Champion beat Chris and Bourgaize and Bob Mckenzie with a straightforward aggregate win. Although Chris and Bob won the second and fourth games games they were always trailing in scores.
Last Year's winners lost out in the first round as neither Robbie Help or Kyran Perkins could find their previous season's form with Ashley Harrison and Ben Wilding running out 3-0 winners.
Husband and wife Craig and Annie Harvey took an early 1-0 lead against the highly experienced pairing of Paul Dyer and Mat Ogier however the chances of a shock soon evaporated as Mat and Paul comfortably took the next 3 games.
2 non-league players progressed in the form of Luke and Tom Oliver as they beat Pete Lowe and Andrew Rundle. This was a game that could have gone either way as all 4 players have previously played for Guernsey and Andrew and Pete only just returning to the league after taking a break for many years.
Annie Wilkins and Steve Le Gallez pipped Clare Anderson and Kate Lockwood by just 100 points on the last ball of 4 games. Steve and Annie took the 1st and fourth games. With the last ball remaining they trailed by 100 points, With only the 100 or 200 as options for the last Ball Annie calmly rolled in the 200 and snatched victory.
There were also 2 league matches and in Division 2 Nick Ogier moved up to fourth spot with a 3-0 win over Carla Allen with 4330 and 7550 v 2000 and 820.
In Division 1 Matt Wilcox and Darren Ogier turned pair companions to single opponents, on the same night. Moving to another venue neither player played their best with Matt arguably throwing away the chance for victory.
Darren took the first game 1710 v 1670. Matt had the final shot and hoped to keep 1 ball up for the 100 shot but both balls went down. The Second game was also a scrappy affair as both players had lost breaks of around 3k. Matt leading by around 3k Darren managed to overtake Matt's score but soon missed and only had a slim lead. Matt managed to get the break back and was looking a comfortable winner until a ball went between the 100 and 10. Matt Missed the ball allowing Darren to play out the remainder of the time for a 3-0 win.

Not much news from Guernsey recently, so I thought I better post an update. Division One singles league is in the final quarter and the league table has now got a familiar look to it. Trevor Gallienne leads with 27 points out of a possible 28. However, with just four matches to play each, the chasing pack of four are still in contention, with some key matches to be played. Ian Champion with 23 points, Paul Le Gallez (Guernsey Masters Champion) 21 points, Mat Ogier 19 points and Paul Dyer 18 points. I will give an update on the Second Division next weekend after some re arranged matches are completed.

Guernsey Barbilliards updates As we approach the end of the season the race for the divisional titles are still up for grabs. In Division 1, Trevor Gallienne tops the table by 3 points from Ian champion. They both have 3 games left and a potential 9 points still up for grabs. With both due to meet in the final league game of the season, Ian still hopes to take the title for the first time over perpetual winner Gallienne. Those 2 and Paul Le Gallez, Paul Dyer and Mat Ogier have now qualified for Island team, who face Jersey on the 27th April in Jersey. Guernsey will be looking to retain the trophy for the 4th time in a row. The final 2 places are still up for grabs with Leon Ogier and Roy Le Page on equal points and due to play each other in the coming weeks. Norman Wilkinson also has a slim hope as he sits back a further 3 points. In division 2, is still running close with 2 from 4 now looking as serious contenders for promotion. Unfortunately Nick Ogier island Darts star, who was in the thick of things has been ruled out a push for the title as he has been called away for work. With 20 games in total to play, Robbie Help leads the group with 47 points from 18 games but has 3 others breathing down his neck. Chris Bourgaize has 45 from 17, Andrew Rundle 42 from 16 and a little further back James Ferbrache 37 from 16. There are some key games to go with Robbie and Andrew Rundle due to meet on the last game of the season the 2nd April and Chris Bourgaize and Andrew Rundle meeting the week before at the Happy Landings and the West Legion respectively. We now have 3 of the finals matches confirmed for Finals night to be held on the 16th April to be held at the Hampshire. Father and son Adrian and Luke Bush will play Mat Ogier and Paul Dyer. Adrian Bush will also appear in the Division 2 final v Andrew Rundle. In the Division 1, Pairs partners Mat Ogier and Paul Dyer will meet. The Island KO and Handicap ko are still tbc.

Guernsey Finals night tonight. @ Hampshire Lodge First up - Island pairs. Adrian and Luke Bush v Paul Dyer and Mat Ogier. Often pairs partners Dyer and Ogier must start as favourites, however, anything could happen on the night and The Family Bush will not give up without a fight.
