Old Oak 1, Salfords B 4 *Nick 730, Tom 3540 Clive 4420, *Mark 3550 (close run thing) *Rebecca 170, Dave 9180 Paul 1470, *Melissa 3050 Charlie 2290, *Caroline 2440Fortress Oak breached, good revenge for the B's for last month's cup defeat. Their team played exceptionally well, Mark clearing for the break back at will on every visit to leave Tommo drinking as usual at the last chance saloon. Caroline lost a 1.5 break (unlucky backlash onto a peg) which if kept would have given her their second-highest score of the evening. As for Melissa - snuffed Trotter out completely and I think we were witnessing a future ladies' champion there...... Move over the Silver Fox and all hail to the White Fox ! (you heard it first here). PS. Martin back in hospital, looks like he's out for the rest of the season.

With Michael still feeling a bit under the weather following tonsillitis, here is a quick report of last nights match.... | | | Nomads | v | Salfords Club Y | |
---|
Brk | Player | Legs | Score | | Score | Legs | Player | Brk | | | | | | | | | | * | John Palmer | 1 | 2,440 | v | 2,180 | 0 | Nev Blackman | | * | Abbey Balchin | 0 | 920 | v | 3,830 | 1 | Anita Blackman | | * | Max Burt | 0 | 1,070 | v | 4,260 | 1 | Mark Fraser | | | Dave Ingram | 1 | 8,850 | v | 1,880 | 0 | Karen Bacchus | * | | Michael Wilson | 0 | 1,730 | v | 1,890 | 1 | Sue Oakley | * | | | 2 | 15,010 | v | 14,040 | 3 | | |
John v Nev JP made a good start, but came off at just over 1k. Both players made some very good shots after that and had the break back, with John just about keeping enough of a lead to take the first leg. 1-0 Abbey v Anita Abbey had been struggling to get both balls on the break shot all evening in practice, so it was no real surprise when the red ball stopped short of the left 50 hole. The drift on the table then caught her out, the 50 hole whipped the ball out and she was off. Anita then played the table really well for the rest of the game to take a well deserved win, while Abbey simply got no reward for a number of good shots. 1-1 Max v Mark Max has been on good form lately, but he had arrived too late to have a practice knock and was caught out early on his break. Mark then showed his greater experience at the back of the table and made a couple of good breaks to put his team in front. 1-2 Dave v Karen Karen was also caught out on her opening break shot leaving the red short, but she played a couple of good shots to get the break back only to repeat her opening shot. The drift then caught her out and she was off. A few patient shots from me and I got the balls back, playing a mixture of 50/100 and 50/20 splits until getting out of position on a one up, leading to a touch on 5k. I did get the break straight back, but the left hand 50 hole caught me out, leaving Karen to make a nice 1k break before I finished the game off with another 2k+ to level the match. 2-2 So, on to the decider.... Michael v Sue Michael normally plays this table really well so Sue knew she had to make a good start, getting up to just over 1k on her opening break. It then turned into a very frustrating game for Michael as no matter what he tried, nothing worked to get the break back although he was constantly adding points on each visit to reduce the lead that Sue had built early in the game. With time running down, Michael was within reach of Sue and the balls at the back had become a bit easier giving both players the chance to get the break back. Sue was successful and was approaching 1k with the bar due, she looked to have secured the win for the visitors before a cruel peg meant that she lost the break. The bar dropped, Michael was back on the table with all 8 balls available and 470 behind Sue. A few good shots at the back kept chipping into that lead and Michael held the red ball back until last. With the red ball in his hand, one ball in an awkward spot behind the left hand 30 hole with the other ball between the right hand 20 and 30 holes. Michael played a good shot to clear the ball behind the 30 hole and keep the red up, but the last ball was in a position where both balls could easily go into the holes at the back to leave Sue winning the game as she was still in front by 270 points, so the shot required a lot of thought. Michael opted to play off the side cushion, probably in the hope of keeping the red ball up, only to get full contact on the face of the ball. The double kiss sent the red ball rolling towards the 100 hole and it dropped in, to leave Michael just 70 points behind. Last ball game, surely Michael would sink the ball in the 100 hole to "steal" the win for the Nomads.... but, maybe it was because he is still struggling to get over his illness, he left it short and Sue made no mistake sinking the ball to take the match. 2-3 An exciting finish to the match, while Max then gained the "Team Mate of the Year" Award for providing pancakes with a choice of Lemon & Sugar, Chocolate and Maple Sauces as toppings to end an enjoyable evening.

Salfords A 0 SPCC B 5
Not as easy as it looks, Denise needed the red into the 200 hole to win by 70 against Les, Teri played very well and pushed Mick all the way and Yvonne gave it good go against Genette.

Spcc A 4 Jolly Bricks 1
Dc 9620 Taz 350 Loz 8000 John 2550 Ricky 10840 Mike 740 Tracy 4910 Ian 5630 John 5750 Nina 560
First up Dc and Damien. Taz's break and off early. A few shots traded and Dave got the balls back and made 4k and off. A bit more top Of the table tip tap and dc cleared the balls and Another 3k break sealed it.
Second on Laurie and John. John going along nicely until a thin break pushed a ball onto the side cush. Loz playing some good stuff Cleared up and made 4k. The balls not running for John another good Break was enough for the leg.
Third on Ricky and Mike . Wobbly on with the break got it clean as a whistle twice then a bit short of pace. A few more shots and Ricky Got the balls back. 5k and tap giving Mike some table time but he still couldn't get going. One last superb effort enough to run out a very Good winner. He's taken to South Park top like a Duck to water.
Next on Tracy and Ian which turned out game of the night. Ian was incredible and riding his luck a bit broke off with a superb 5630 break. Only a few points short of top b team away break. It took a while but Tracy cleared the balls and set about chasing Ians score. A tremendous Effort saw her finish time out with 4k. A great game
Last but not least myself and Nina. Nina on a rare call upon to cover. A fun friendly leg letting her have plenty of goes. A couple of small Steady breaks and taps was enough with enough time for a few helped shots.
A fun evening With John and the Bricks team. Short of Steve,Pete and Bob they gave it there best shot .Highlight of the evening has to be Ians match winning break.
