Old Oak 1, MVC B 4 *Rebecca (600) nearly beat Colin (1130) but not quite ! (big hiss as he got rid of the red with the bar gone) *Charlie 2000, Tony 8140 (Tony in sparkling form, splitting at will) *Nick 370, Geoff 5890 (Geoff solid as usual but puzzling himself with some strange misses) *Clive 6120, Bud 790 (I had to dig deep as the break wasn't a 'gimme' tonight) *Paul 1560, Colin 4Plyr 6270 (second bite of the cherry and this time he played sensibly)
4-plyr rule invoked as Gary at Cheltenham and Karl sunning himself in Oz. Pleasant evening with the champions-elect.

MVC A 0 SPCCB 5
A dent to MVC A's B League title hopes, 1st and last games close, Pete getting the better of Neil with a late break, Genette beating Benny by 200 with only 1200, Benny pegging a match winning break.

With the season coming to its finale the Nomads were looking to stay in contention for 3rd spot with surprise strugglers Horley CC. JP started the evening for the Nomads against Chris and his opening salvo was 1k. From there both players did their best to get the balls back but it was JP who got the slice of fortune required, clearing up with a white ball popping off two cushions into the 100. That started an excellent break of 2.5k, JP tapping up with time on his side to give Chris no chance of catching. Vintage stuff to put the home side one up. 1-0 Next on was Jim, ah no not tonight, and Roland. Roland went for the classic underhit break and was off on only 200. From there a remarkable battle of the pegs ensued, it didn't matter where the balls sat.. the white pegs were always in danger. With just two minutes to go, and the score reading 700-800, Jim finally burst into life and got the break back! Thank god for that eh! Well, not so fast man cub - Jemima has returned to the building. The break shot would have been short at South Park so you can only imagine what it was like at the Garland. Roland couldn't take full advantage first go, but did sneak back into the lead. A chance for Dr Jim Jekyll and Mrs Jemima Hyde to sort themself out.. but it was Jemima Hyde's night as Roland got the break back as the bar went to seal an important leg for the visitors. 1-1 So after that drama that made the table look like a bear pit, Aaron took to the table against the Garland's Queen Abs. Initially it looked like it may well be Abbeys night, Aaron falling foul of the same issue Roland incurred and Abbey playing well to make 480 without quite managing to get the balls back. From here on Aaron knew he'd be in for a fight - he got the balls back first go but was initially caught leaving the one-up short. Abs couldn't get them back but Aaron made no mistake on his third go, balls back and a mixture of splitting and 50 potting took Aaron to an excellent break of 3.7k before a tap with a ball gone awkwardly beyond the 50. From there the Queen did her best to get the balls back, but Aaron had done enough and he sailed through the remaining minutes. 1-2 So now the Nomads were behind and they had to pull their socks firmly up. Max looked like he'd done just that with a terrific 100-splitting start but on 3.7k he left a ball short of the 100 on the split. He opted to play of one cushion, but the cue ball slid past and clean into the 100 hole! To add insult to injury, Nev went straight at the faint edge sticking out and successfully potted off it. Max did not have to wait long for a second chance though, and when it came he took it with both hands, tip-tapping at 4,440. Despite Shania then getting very disappointed with the roll, she'd done plenty enough against the man who downed the Nomad's star man just a fortnight before. 2-2 Desmond! Another decider, another one for the captain. After the horror show Michael had had against Salfords Y, he was looking to make amends, while the Horley contingent jokingly discussed a plan to score 150 in 18 minutes to give Luke a better chance! Luke didn't get the brief though, break too thin and neither ball went in. Michael cleared up first go and the sigh of "here we go" went round the room. But Michael didn't settle, off on 1.2k and Luke was back at the table. After a bit of a tussle, Luke was first to get them back but the break shot once again let him down, this time way too thick. Michael got the balls back for a second time but this time his one-up was rogue and off he went again. Luke and his team were bubbling with excitement but at the third time of asking Michael made his way to 5.7k before coming off with a dodgy reverse split. That was game, set and match (just) to the Nomads. 3-2 So a fun night with the Horley contingent and a fair smattering of Stevens. The Nomads seem doomed to drop further down the pecking order, while Horley look to fight their way up towards the Oak and the Bricks.
