Rick opened with 5080 and with Richard getting no luck at all Rick was first to get them back and put the game to bed 1-0. Jan off early, Pete balls back but pegged 3k, from there it was a battle with both players struggling to get hold of the table (very whippy at the back end this evening) Pete got himself into the lead and remained there to pinch an important leg in a match where we could not lose if we were to still be in with a chance of winning the league. 0-2. Trevor normally likes the Alex table but off early this evening, Dave got a couple of k to build a lead and like Pete he stayed in front. 0-3. Dave Ingram looking comfortable until he went up the top of the table and off at 6370. Dave got them back and had a chance time wise but due to difficulty with his breathing was never on time and broke down after the bar with 4440 break. Dave finished off. 0-4. Huw opened with over 1k, James unable to get the balls back but kept scoring, Huw had two more breaks to build 2.5k lead. James balls back but broke down at 2k and Huw made sure of his first win of the season. 1-4. Colin opened with just over 5k, Roger balls back and going well but left one up short at 2k, Colin balls back and added another 1.3k. Roger balls back but ran out of time 2-4. TJ going well at about 3k when the other TJ turned up and 4 times the break. Chase unable to take advantage, TJ balls back and touched on 8730, Chase finished off. 5-2. With Redhill having a bye it now means Redhill, Lewes and Worthing B are all on 10 points. Lewes have their bye last series so looks between Worthing and Redhill. Worthing go to Mid Sussex and Redhill are home to Littlehampton. At the moment Worthing have a slight edge with a 9 legs difference to Redhill`s 7 legs difference. Worthing are also ahead on aggregate score. Thank you to Lewes for a good evening as usual.

With the end of the season fast approaching and Redhill destined to lose their crown, Worthing A came to Merstham knowing a win would put them in pole position to take the title back to the south coast. Geoff opened up for the hosts but his initial break made plenty of use of the 20s on the split, and not in the conventional way. One whipped from the 100 and another couple whipped from the 10 before a 100 split shot back towards the RH 50. At this point, 4.5k in Geoff couldn't get the back. Gary came to the table but was quickly off and Geoff went about settling the frame with a much more settling 4k before the "nothing silly" shouts came from Captain Col. Gary tried to get the back but the Merstham top is a cruel mistress and Geoff was the one who got to add a few more at the end. 1-0 Next up El Capitano faced off against Joe and, like his Prince of Wales teammates in the Worthing league, he made the table look easy. His initial one-up was left too high, but one pot and a split was all he needed to rack up a superb 9k break, 100-splitting without fail before tap-tapping for the leg. Col couldn't get them back and Joe added another 3.5k. 1-1 After that super display from Joe, the question was could Worthing play it like West Sussex could? Well the answer to that came quickly... no. Martin's struggles started super early with the red short on the break and he grafted his way to 3.5k before coming off. Sleezy then took to the table and needed to summon all his powers of concentration, a super clear and he had the break back. Although Joe had made it look easy, plenty of the Redhill mob had struggled finding the split in practice and given Slee had sneakily hitched a lift with StuC he had to learn on the job. Well Slee was going well until.. uh oh.. more pace required on the one-up and he was off at 4k! With 500 the gap and 4 or so minutes to go, Martin suddenly became favorite and he quickly cleared the balls. He probably only needed the one split, but he had to go for the 10 and it whipped horribly behind the 30. He kept his score but was off only 500 up and then Sleezy pulled out the shot of the night. By hook or by crook a mighty "BOOM" could be heard as Slee potted all three balls first shot, he added one set of breaks and split and the bar went with him just in front. Pot enough balls and tap tap and the steal was complete. 2-1 So having got that crucial leg against the break, Davey Jones was summoned from his locker - where he was quite happily watching the snooker - to try and ramp up the pressure on the visitors. This in kind drew the might of KT from the bench, looking to "break back". Dave struggled to start, the split looked uncomfortable and he was trying to find his rhythm. But a couple of k in he seemed to be settling down before the old roll at the back of the table caught him out and he was off at 4k. KT leapt into action but then had to return to his seat - the Merstham top up to it's old tricks. From here both players were struggling at the back of the table, adding a few but unsuccessful in their mission to get the balls back before KT managed to do it, 5k down by now, with time in hand. As you'd expect he started calmly, but once again the old tops whippy nature caused problems and KT was off on 2k. Dave added a few hundred but Kev got them straight back. He had to go quick, but in rushing his first split the 50 popped out and put pay to his chances of chasing Dave down. 2.5k to finish and Redhill were firmly in the driving seat. 3-1 So Worthing really needed to win the last three and it was StuC who was next to the table. Once again issues with the whippy 10/20 saw a player come off, Stu only opening with 1.5k. Michael took a couple of goes to get them back, and when he did he came off with only 1k in a similar manner. From there it was all about who could work out the top of the table and both players had chances, it was Michael who got it right first though, clearing up with six minutes to go. The first k was dodgy again, struggling to find the line on the 100 split, but from there Michael added 4k before tap-tapping when the call came. A black peg for Stu on the 100 saw him lose his score, but Michael had already sealed the victory for the home side. 4-1 With two "dead rubbers" to go Terry got to break against DC, opening with 2k. The only other thing the author can recall is DC "doing a Slee" (or Rick as it is known in Worthing circles) leaving the one-up on the edge. Otherwise a fairly friendly game saw Terry pull a leg back. 4-2 Then to finish, Gary had the break but his second split was thick and he was off with only 1.5k. StuM then stepped up to deliver the nights highest break, despite a few "lucky Stus" in the opening couple of k, he raced off into the distance. He may have tapped up at 11k, but a booo from scorer Wilson encouraged him to carry on and he then didn't tap-tap until the bar went, an excellent 14,320 break to seal the final consolatory frame for the visitors. 4-3 So, after two consecutive home losses Redhill get back to winning ways in Merstham. With Brighton victorious against Tunbridge Wells, Worthing were dealt a real blow by the defending champions. With the final round of fixtures next month will Brighton finish the job against the West Sussex crew, or can last years B-division champions spring a surprise and give themselves or Worthing the chance to catch the leaders??

Brighton A 5-2 Tunbridge Wells
**Kevin Hall 5760 - 770 Ian Gordon - Kev started well, but it soon became scrappy at the top end and with Ian unable to get the balls back Kev stayed in front to put us 1-0 up
Phil Osborne 2380 - 11,020 Curt Driver** - excellent opener from Curt giving Phil no chance
Matthew Knight 5320 - 10,530 Gerry Fitzjohn** - excellent opener from Gerry giving me no chance. I did get the break back and played to the bar
**Bob Hall 17,770 - 2240 Martin Russell - excellent 12k in 10 mins from Bob, and then added some more after Martin missed to draw us level
Jim Millward 8240 - 4220 Pete Sainsbury** - good start from Pete but he missed a split on 4k and off soon after, great clearance from Jim with a hint of good fortune, never looked entirely comfortable but got to 8k before coming off and leaving Pete half a chance, but he failed to get them back and that was that
Chris Tupper 8610 - 4180 Kyle Ingram** - nice start from Kyle but off on 3k, Tupps got them back but still behind when leaving a one up short. First to get them back and looked in good nick but another one up short left Kyle a great chance, but about 1k behind with still plenty of time left Kyle also left a one up short and Tupps finished off to give us the match.
**Nigel Senior 11,010 - 6650 Bryan Stevens - Nige got the selections spot on tonight but he struggled early on the table and was off pretty quickly. Bryan played really well and built a good lead but another to leave the one up short. No further chances for Bryan as the captain helped with the aggregate making a very good 8k and touch
Excellent win for the hosts tonight, visitors played well especially in legs 2 and 3. Also, put us under pressure in the last few legs with everyone missing so the result could have been different. Plenty of laughs and banter especially as the evening went on. Still a very tough match to come
