Mid Sussex v Redhill B @ Burgess Hill Constitutional Club "A disaster narrowly averted" - or maybe I should quote Tom, waxing lyrical : "A win's a win." Mick Kirwan bt Nev Blackman 1-0 Paul Moyes-Robb lost to Clive T 1-1 Baz West lost to Max Burt 1-2 Derek Taylor bt Anita Blackman 2-2 Andy Farmer-Wright lost to Tom Pearse 2-3 Paul Jobbins bt Alex Hornby 3-3 .........so all set up for the battle of the captains: Ros Appleby lost to Mark Fraser. 3-4
A good fun evening with some amusing banter. (Example: Fritz on missing an easy fifty: "***k me ! Ros reply: "that doesn't appear on my bucket list") Tasty Hot Dogs provided (thanks Ros) also Jaffa Cakes (Fritz's eyes lit up). Max won on his Interleague debut, and Tom the best in show tonight, keeping his 100% record.

Some accidents, and some flukes, on a table in a mean mood, but the home side just about came out on top.

Worthing A 4-3 Brighton A
**Mike Daw 9950 - 5220 Phil Osborne - a couple of thick splits and a nervous moment when a recovery shot went close to the peg but Mike recovered well and completed a very good opening break which gave Phil no chance. Phil played well himself running the rest of the time out
Kevin Tunstall 0 - 6060 Jim Millward** - captain Nigel "I'm going second whatever" nowhere to be seen as Jim took on Kev. An early thick split from Jim sent the red behind the 50 and nothing next shot. Both then ended up missing a tricky ball behind the right hand 30 before Kevin got it spot on and potted both. Kev looked in great form but from nowhere a split hit the right hand side of the 100 and took out the left hand peg, still plenty for Jim to do but excellent clearance and touching on enough for 1-1
Terry Molloy 590 - 11,400 Nigel Senior** - as everyone knows Nigel really struggles on the Henty top and against Terry, tonight no exception as two breaks for less than 2k. However, some unusually tame attempts to get them back from Molly gave Nige a third chance and this time no mistake to put us in the lead
**Stuart Carruthers 16,550 - 850 Kevin Hall - a couple of nervy splits early on from Stuart but he recovered well, making enough first time with an excellent leg to draw the hosts level. No chance for Kev and Stu added some more
Joe Oakley 0 - 14,700 Matthew Knight** - disappointed that I needed two goes to seal the leg, but with Joe also playing a tame shot in trying to get them back I made enough second visit to put us back in front
Stuart Mepham 13,250 - 170 Bob Hall** - Bob started well but, seemingly a few verbals put him off and he pegged a shot or two later and gave Mep the balls back. Stu struggled a little early but settled down with his signature 50/10 and made 7.5k before coming off. Bob would have needed to fly but he didn't get them back so that was that
**Martin Smith 10,890 - 4150 Chris Tupper - faultless opener from Martin in the decider, can't have been many better breaks with the pressure and the league very much in the balance so well done to him. Tupps, looking good on the top again, ran the rest of the time out
Well done to Worthing on their win which throws the league wide open. Plenty of tension during the match, but as usual, quite a few of us stayed late afterwards, with lots of bar billiards chat and laughs - think Nigel enjoyed the beer a little too much!

Thank you Clive, Mark sent them earlier Scores noted, and it seems I sold Derek short on his magnificent 6k on what many see as a difficult table: after Michael's writeup on the equivalent match last year (mentions of Mr Whippy and a 99 flake needed) we went fully prepared with these: Also, Barry was very unlucky not to win after an amazing 200 shot off three cushions to give himself a chance with the last ball: Over went the BP much to Max's relief.
