You know what they say, Lancashire born, Lancashire bred, Strong in the arm, Soft in the 'ead.I've no links at all with Lancs, but ever since being a small child, with ear glued to the radio (listening to The Clitheroe Kid) I've enjoyed the Lancashire sense of humour. A very high proportion of Britain's best comedians seem to hail from that county (and we'll include Manchester in with it), so here is a three-part picture quiz on them. 1pt for identification; 1pt for any joke or well-known catch phrase associated with them; and for good measure, 1pt if you can name the Lancs town which they hail from. 1 Eric Sykes"Oh well, please yourself" b.Oldham 2 Freddy "Parrot-face" Davies b.Brixton but long-time Salford resident. 3 Stan Laurel, b.Ulverston 4 Harry"Izzy Wizzy let's get busy" Corbett, b.Bradford(Yorks), Sooty b.Blackpoool 5 George"Leaning On a Lamppost" Formby, b.Wigan 6 John "I'm Free" Inman, b.Preston 7 Dora Bryan, b.Southport 8 Steve Coogan, b.Middleton, Manchester 9 Bernie Clifton with Oswald, b.St Helens 10 Jim Bowen "Super Smashing Great" "You Can't Beat A Bit Of Bully"b.Wirrall, brought up in Accrington. 11 Arthur"Hello Playmates"Askey, b.Liverpool 12 Bobby Ball "Rock On Tommy""He's Got My Skin", b.Oldham Good luck !

Great answers so far. KP has 7 out of 8 correct (sorry 9 is incorrect, wrong bird, it's not Emu !) Regg3y has identified 4 correctly, plus two towns of birth and two separate catchphrases, so gets 8pts. Dave May has provided catchphrases for three of the ones already got, so 3pts.
Leaderboard: 1 Regg3y 8pts 2. K Pringle 7pts 3. Dave May 3pts
Oodles of points left to get : Identity of (9 ; Birthplace for 1-6 inc and 9-12 inc; Catchphrase for 1-5 inc and 7-9 inc.

My Grandfather was from Lancashire and used to support Blackpool. Some connections up there still.
1 - Eric Sykes was born in Oldham. His catchphrase was Oh well.... please yourself !
9 - Will have a guess at Russ Abbot - seem to remember this sketch on TV - creased me up. Russ was born in Chester and one of his catch phrases was - The names Bond - Basildon Bond.

Stormin' helps himself to 2pts for the correct town of birth and catchphrase of Sykes - still going at the age of 84. Number 9 ain't Russ Abbott, though - but 1 bonus pt for Basildon Bond. ;)
Leaderboard: 1 Regg3y 8pts 2. K Pringle 7pts 3= Dave May 3pts 3= Stormin' 3pts

Hmm - Lennie Bennet can only be loosely described as a comedian. As I can see you're determined to get this one, I'll give you a clue-the performer's name is the same as Q and the ostrich is called Oswald. ;D

Well done, Stormin' you nailed Bernie there good and proper. 2pts. I'm feeling in a generous mood tonight and am handing out bonus points like confetti. So you get an extra bonus for the link to Sherborne Castle in Dorset which is one of the most fabulous stately homes I've ever visited. The link being via the family crest of the owners the Digby family which happens to have an ostrich on it. ;D
Leaderboard: 1 Regg3y 8pts 2. K Pringle 7pts 3. Stormin' 6pts 4. Dave May 3pts

30- Stanley was born in Ulverston 4- Harry Corbett was born in Bradford - his catch phrase "Izzy wizzy lets get busy" is a very strong childhood memory as I was a sooty fan ! If the glove fits wear it ! 5 - George Fornby born in Wigan. Leaning on a lamp post could earn you an Abso nowadays. 6 - John Inman born in Preston 10 - Jim Bowen born in Accrington 11- Arthur Askey born in Liverpool 12 - Bobby Ball born in Oldham - my favourite catchphrase of his was "He's got my skin"

Sterling effort there from Stormin' :
3- 1pt for Ulverston 4- 1pt for Bradford (Yorks); 1pt for "Izzy wizzy lets get busy" ; 1pt for Sooty. He came across Sooty in a shop near Blackpool pier, incidentally, which is why i've counted him as Lancastrian. 5 - 1pt for Wigan; 1pt for leaning on a lamp post. 6 - 1pt for Preston 10 - 1pt for Accrington; Bowen was actually born in the Wirral, but was brought up in Accrington and was later a teacher in Lancaster. 11- 1pt for Liverpool 12 - 1pt Oldham; 1pt for "He's got my skin" I make that 11pts in all.
Quiz ended.
Final table: 1. Stormin' 17pts 2 Regg3y 8pts 3. K Pringle 7pts 4. Dave May 3pts
