The incoming champions played the outgoing champions in the final league match of the season
New Oak A 2 Blue Anchor 3
Ian Lelliott 8,200* - 0 Joe Oakley Phil Osborne 10,970 - 2,510* Chris Cox Marcus Chipman 2,700 - 5,490* Tony Jenner Nigel Senior 5,850* - 10,670 Matt knight Bob Osborne 4,500 - 7,140* Ric Cunningham
In leg 1, Ian took on Joe Oakley. Ian unbeaten at home this season, made 2k but was off and Joe had a big chance with the balls back. He was superb (his words) up to 3k, before butchering a split leaving the white short, and then taking the black peg out next shot. This left Ian still in front and even with a few shot Ian's, which had Matt pacing round the pub, Ian put the game safe. 1-0
Leg 2, Phil on for the attack against the break to play Coxy who had a go on the table in interleague. That practice hadnt done him much good as he was off early. A slightly fortuitous break back shot by Phil (Matt had worn the carpet out by now) put him in position to make a super 10k break. 2-0 up and in control
Leg 3 Chippers like last week to seal the win? Well TJ let him in early breaking off with only a few hundred. But no break back for Chippers. TJ built a 5k lead but then Chippers gets the balls back and with 7 to go surely he would get them. Alas no, he was 3k short when coming off and TJ keeps the game alive. 2-1
Leg 4 Captains to play Nige's break against Matt. Nige effortlessly gets to 700 but then has an almighty kick on the break (the bad contact of the balls was heard in the other bar) which caused both balls to miss. So a fortuitous Matt gets on and makes a decent 10k break (ignoring the shot Stu whipped 10 split in the 20). Nige makes a rapid 5k at the end 2-2
Leg 5 Ric's break against Bob. Ric looking superb to around 3k being aggressive slamming balls in then reverts to not looking superb by leaving everything short of pace. This gave Bob chance but he couldnt take them. He got one last chance chasing 5k but broke short. 2-3
So somehow we lost from 2-0 up and our unbeaten record at home went in the last game. But who cares as we are the champs.....thanks to the Blue Anchor for a great night and a bit of banter during and after the match.

Bobhall has the scores but the Stag beat the Bevy 5-0. Ash top scored for the Bevy with a PB over 5k. His score was more then the rest of us added together.

hmm slightly underwhelming report on the superb victory of the super Blue Anchor team who repeated the feat of last season by being the only team to beat the New Oak A at home no mention of Ian moving the black peg miles off the spot with a shot down the middle (it stayed up of course) - the sound of it thumping into the black peg "heard in the other bar" or Phil whipping a 100 split but there was mention of this "a decent 10k break (ignoring the shot Stu whipped 10 split in the 20)" - cheers for that, and it is (K)night with a capital fella In all seriousness well done to them on being champions despite Ian's pessimism and poor old Chippers getting stick each week. Add the calming Hastings duo and captain Nige in their team and they proved formidable opponents and worthy champions Thanks to all my team for a valiant effort trying to defend the title, we fell just short and finished up at the opposite end of the table As always special thanks to Tony for all the miles he does, he must end up with a headache every week!
