Interesting set of answers, Wolfman's answered them all, so I'll either mark them right or wrong and won't leave any open. 1. b)Thomas Keller Medal Hmm, that's a lifetime achievement award. There's no disputing that it's a high accolade, Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent have been awarded it, but it's decided by committee and there's a different winner every year. If it had any credence then Sir Steve would have won it 12 years on the trot and not just once. The answer I wanted was: (i) Amateurs: the Diamond Sculls at Henley; (ii) Professionals: Doggett's Coat & Badge. (see here:) www.britevents.com/event.asp?title=doggetts%20coat%20and%20badge%20race&event=131111. d)The Triple Crown Correct, 1pt. The 2000 Guineas (or 1000 Guineas for fillies); Epsom Derby and the St Leger. The last in England to do it (there are Irish and American versions) was Nijinsky in 1970 (ridden by Lester Piggott). Although the horse Teofilo was hotly tipped to do it this year but withdrew before the 2000 Guineas. 2. a)12th August - correct, 1pt b)1st September - correct, 1pt c)7th September - incorrect. I know the saying about there having to be a R in the month, but that's for eating 'em. The traditional date is August 5th (see this link:) www.schooloftheseasons.com/septdays1.htmld)20th January in Scotland, 1st April in England and WalesHmm again ! The close season for salmon is 31st August to 1st Feb. e)1st April The close season for trout fishing is 31st August to 1st March. 4.Matthew Webb in 1875 (21 hours, 45 minutes) Correct, but answer already given. Thomas Burgess in 1911 (22 hours, 35 minutes) Correct for 1pt. Bonus 0.5 for the respective times. 6.1000 Guineas, 2000 Guineas Correct, that's the 'missing' two for 2pts. 7.b)Could be either. The dimensions for a rugby league pitch are 109 yards long, 74.36 yards wide. An association pitch can be anywhere between 100-130 yards long, and between 50-100yards wide. Great answer, totally correct and worth 3pts. 8.c)4 - Correct for Polo, 1pt d)7 from 13 - Correct for Water Polo - 1pt g)5 - incorrect, ice-hockey is 6 plus subs. i) 10 - correct for men's lacrosse, and it's 12 for women. 1pt Well done, that's increased your tally by 12.5pts and closed the quiz. Final tally: 1 Wolfman 13.5pts 2= Scooner 7pts 2= BB Reaper 7pts 4 CraigC 5.5pts 5 Petem 5pts 6=NigelS 2pts 6=Regg3y 2pts 8 Josie 1pt
