And I'm just off now to research them...... ........and as the Partition of India occurred in 1947, and Victoria had been declared Empress of India during her reign, it must have been the 4 kings in between (Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII and George VI)...so Reaper gets a point for naming one of them - which wins him the Quiz !!! ;D So now I'll give the last two answers and we'll have a tally-up. 10 Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch 25 James IFinal points 1 Mr Reaper 10.5pts 2 Sir KT 9.5pts 3 DuncanDisorderly 9pts 4 DA-DM 7pts 5 H&J 3.5pts 6 DaveJones 2pts 7 SpecialOne 0.5pts

11= Samuel Ingersoll in 1871 I've got Germain Sommelier here, Reaper: encyclopedia.farlex.com/pneumatic+drillBut if you can provide some back-up evidence to support your claim, you'll be awarded the points! ;) The Reaper has indeed provided proof in the form of a useful link, and here is an extract thus: List of Inventors 1871 pneumatic drill Samuel Ingersoll So as was often the way, two people in different countries came up with similar inventions at the same time and there was a rush to take the patent out first. The steam engine is an example, three laid claim to it. Quiz re-opened to allow Mr Reaper 2 further points. Final points 1 Mr Reaper 12.5pts 2 Sir KT 9.5pts 3 DuncanDisorderly 9pts 4 DA-DM 7pts 5 H&J 3.5pts 6 DaveJones 2pts 7 SpecialOne 0.5pts
