Well done to my Worthing select team for their efforts yesterday. We came through a very tough group which included favourites Tunbridge Wells, Redhill `A` & Portsmouth and actually topped the pile with 3 wins, 4-3, 4-3, 6-1.
We came unstuck though in the Semi final against a good Mid Sussex side losing 3-4, down to the last two games.
Some excellent performances from Ian 4/4, Kt 4/4, Hayley 3/4 (Mr Jukes put 11k past her in the loss) & guest player Dave Alder, also 3/4. Steve Aylmore (1), Dave Jones (0) & Stu Mepham (2)made up the seven, but could only manage 3 legs between them.
Hayley carried her good form over from the previous day, which had seen her partner Tommo in the Mixed pairs competition. She played well all day and they finished top of their group winning 5/6. In the q/finals they came up against a formidable pairing in Kev Hall & Sandra Race (who won 5/6 in their group, finishing runners up). Sandra then Kev put two good breaks on the board, giving Hayley & Tommo an uphill task, which they never achieved. They then went on to win the final.

Just to add my thanks to Lady H for doing me the great honour of partnering me in the Mixed Doubles. After a reversal in the very first match (v Paul and Claire Reece) our form picked up and we went sailing through to the latter stages - thanks mainly to some excellent breaks from Hayley - but finally coming a cropper against Kevin and Sandra.
Kev and Sandra then went on to beat the holders, (Denise and Laurie) before falling over the line after an almightly tussle with Fritz and Anita.

It was really good fun Tommo, thankyou for asking me to play. I had an excellent weekend. I was worried about letting you down as the last few months I have suffered with 'Billiard Block'!!!!!!!!!!! :'( :'( The competition is run really well by Caroline and Dave, fab food put on by Colin and his lady helpers and the entrants in both comps are v.friendly. The tables were tricky but everyone just got on with it and did their best. I hope I get asked again next year ::) ::) ::) :-* H xx
