What a fantastic evening ! And you're not the only one with a hangover, Kev: Margo had one several too many and is nursing one too !
Just to describe a bit of the atmosphere - there were three standing ovations: the first one following Kev's 14k break to take the 'Masters'; Then, at Henry's faultless 10k and touch-up in the decider of the Mens Singles - job done, one may have been forgiven for thinking.
But the third one, the crowning moment of the evening, heralded Dave's reply as he managed to chase down this daunting target. The bar dropped when he was about half-way there, and, as he was still on the opening break, Dave was allowed to pull the handle again - it's there in the rules, but is such a rare occurrence. It can momentarily break the concentration (having to check with the scorer before getting down to play shots again and get back in the groove - and all the time the knowledge in the back of the mind that one miss and it's game over).
So eventually the target was passed and Dave was able to bathe in the well-deserved applause. What a gutsy performance, and you have to feel for Henry as well and congratulate him on a great contribution too.
A Finals Night which will be remembered for years to come. I too would like to thank the organisers for their obvious hard work, and the tables were on the whole superb. Well done to all the other competitors who had their own special 20 minutes of glory - especially those tasting success for the first time. Long may it continue.

Another enjoyable evening at the Hurst club :)
I`d like to thank the Mid Sussex committee for inviting me to present the trophies. Unfortunately, with the schedule running a bit late and my alarm clock ready to go off at 4.30am, we had to make our exit. Not before I might add, seeing some great bar billiards.
The Open doubles final was a real nail biter, going down to the last ball in game three. Well done to Lorraine on holeing out at the first attempt.
The Masters final was exceptional, with BB Warrior holding an 8k lead and Mr Reaper`s break to come. Kev showed why he is one of the best youngsters around with a great 14k opener in the second to take the title (reminded me a little of a certain 23 yr old winning the All England title in the early 80s) ;D ;D :P
In the singles Final, I scored the first two legs and saw the match swing one way and then the other. Game 1 saw Dave snatch the first off of Henry with a late break. Dave`s break to come in game 2 but he thinned his first one-up giving Henry plenty of time to settle down and make an 8k break to tie the match. At this point we started to make our apologies(11.15pm), and as we were going out the door, saw Henry touch up on his 10k opener. Shame we missed Dave`s reply, an excellent response considering the pressure. Well done Dave ;)
Well done also to all the other winners & commiserations to the runners up

I would like to add my congratulations to all the winners last night and commiserations to the runners up.
Thank you to everyone who helped, especially Graham for giving his time setting the tables up, Rob for helping him, also Dave & Rob for moving tables Tues evening, Jenny & Pete helping clean trophies, and all those involved with the Raffle, and speed break.
Thank you to Jean for staying so late to present the trophies.
This was a great finals night, with some very exciting Bar Billiards, some of the best finals I have seen, fantastic Masters and Men's finals
Thank you to everyone for coming and supporting this years finals night.

Many congratulations to Mama Hall and all involved on a great finals night. All the games I saw were played hard, but in a good spirit. Sums up what is good about Mid Sussex Bar Bills. Many thanks to the committee for honouring Peter, a self confessed average, sociable player. Recognising his long serving loyalty was a very 'Mid Sussex' thing to do. TSO

A thourougly enjoyable evening. It was my pleasure to prove the tipsters wrong. ;D ;D
Thanks as above it is apreciated by everyone, & it was good to see such a good turn out.
The most thrilling mens final in years played on the trickiest table in the room not that the finalists showed it 2 very well built 10K breaks, & Mr Reaper a well desrved Masters champion.
Tommo forgot a 4th standing ovation as The committee award went to Peter Geal for 40 years playing in the Same team in the League & still wants more ;D well done Peter
Hurst B collected the trophy for the charity collection £110 which was collected by each player paying 50p per week home & away including the team cup rounds, 10p per white peg & 50p per black do the maths we didn't knock over loads of pegs.
If each team did this next year we could have a decent sum for charity

A superb Finals night with excellent quality of play from so many players and had the best seat, as scorer, for the last frame of the Singles when Dave, with the rarely used Rule 8 (inserting further coins in the 3rd game - freeplay of course), chased down Henry's excellent opening 10k break.
Kev Hall really showed his ability in the Masters, making the table look good ;D, with so many others playing good billiards through the evening.......congratulations to you all.
Thanks to Lorraine, other Committee members, and helpers, for an enjoyable evening
