Lets kick off proceedings then.
BRAVOS:2 ST. FRANCIS:3
Bravo:3540 Matt Geal:2710 The table was playing a bit tricky to begin with but eventually Bravo got going with a 2k break. Matt ended well but was left with a bit too much to do in the end.
Paul:1620 Ray Fogwill:2010 Close one all the way with both players having some abortive goes at the break. A frustrated Paul couldn't quite get going and Ray took advantage to get the critical lead.
Lynne:1140 Chris Little:4200 The table eventually seemed to settle down and Chris played it well with some good breaks to ease to the win. Lynne unfortunately couldn't get back onto the break tonight.
Nikki:290 TSO:9140 Nikki didnt get much of a go on the table tonight. After a freindly start, Shaun put in excellent breaks of 4k and 3.5k with some more inbetween to settle the tie in emphatic fashion.
Spud:6560 Bob Ellis:1760 I managed to get a consolation point for the team. Breaks of 2.5k and 3.5k gave me the win against an unlucky Bob who did not get the roll of the balls tonight.
Cheers to the St. Franis squad for a good evening. All the best for the rest of the season.

No show by a hall gave russell a free passage 8-) ;D ;) That pun's a terrible one, Q. ;D Zeds 3, HHUSC 2Handcross have become the team who can't play their own table. Honestly, it was dire tonight. As the one responsible for preparing it, i have now more or less given up as there is only so much I can do with cleaning and smoothing the cloth, cleaning the pockets and balls and making sure of the level. What I can't do anything about is the cushions, the back one which has no bounce and the side ones which render the break well-nigh impossible.Game 1. John Turner 1930, Ron Wales 870 (A good game of hit-and-hold from John.) 1-0 Game 2. Barry Timson 830, Terry Gasson 1910 (Masterful game from Terry, Barry just didn't get going) 1-1 Game 3. Johnny Haigh 2850, Andy Short 1180 (Andy made the early running and Johnny knew he had to do something. He played with panache and rode his luck to bank a superb break of 1900, but almost threw it away on a ball that finished about a centimetre from the black.) 2-1 Game 4. tommo 2150, Ray Pratt 2740 (Tommo managed to miss a) the opening break; b) the split after the one-up (twice) c) an easy white at the end which would have left the red ball for 400 for the win; and even d) the last ball in the 100. Meanwhile Ray picked off some good shots around the fifty hole and led by 600 for most of the game. Second best score of the night.) 2-2 Game 5. MrMike007 1860, Sparky 1680 (Sparky went back to front on the break and got them in the first time but left them both up the second. A game of nip and tuck ensued, and MrMike was on the table as the bar dropped. He managed to get 320 ahead with the red gone to claim a vital win.) 3-2 So why the wingeing about the table ? ::) Well with seven scores below 2000 and every single game being won against the break, something must be wrong. I measured the distance between the spots - that seemed okay. Then suddenly MrMike spotted that the white spot is out of alignment with 10/100/200 holes and the black spot - despite being dead central on the D. So we measured the distance from the D to each side cushion and found that it is too far to the left by half an inch. So the answer is for me to trim the D on one side and put a new white spot on, and we'll see if it makes the break 'on' once more. Thank you to our very game opponents and apologies for the state of the table. Entertainment was provided by USC before the start of the match with a display of mascots - more impressive indeed than any the Zeds have been able to come up with: There was a song-and-dance donkey, prone to falling flat on its back, and also a singing dog which moves its tail up and down. And Mr Gasson's "See You Jimmy" Wig and multicoloured light display spectacles have to be seen too. ;D

Laughing Fish 4 - 1 White Horse
Chris Ashford 1950 vs 1400 Brian Coleman Les Whiteman 1420 vs 1020 Ian Powell H W/O vs Trevor Howes (I am not impressed with this in the slightest!) Andy 3920 vs 1590 Colin Marshall Jim Ashford 2950 vs 3040 Colin Mansfield
Well. First two games were not much to watch. Third game was non-existent. Fourth game started slow but the old man pulled out a couple of late 1k+ breaks to win. Fifth game was quite good to begin with, both players going off with a string of 4 or 5 consecutive 500+ breaks, but slowing down out the end - colin potting the 200 on the ball to win.
I am pretty miffed about the walkover to be honest, I know it is nobody's fault other than Trevors, but I spent the whole day at work really looking forward to playing my game - table was playing really well last night and was hoping to knock in another good one - AND if player of the year goes down to one game I am going to be very unhappy!
Grumble over. Those of the White Horse team who did show up were very good company and had no problem helping us demolish the lamb casserole, even with a player down. Shame about the lack of friendly in the last for those who didn't get a game - so eager to leave after only playing four frames anyway (to be fair, I got the impression 3/4 of them wanted to stay, but one of them didn't). I just started grumbling again didn't I...

Don't worry H, it still counts as a win for you.... it's only if 2 players have the same number of wins that a walk-over is taken into consideration. ;)

I know - I just meant that if I am one game up at the end of the season, and that game was a walkover, im not really going to be too happy about it - I'd rather work for my wins than be given them!

I think I'm going to be bad, and I think it's today, yeah
Many congrats to H Current leader in POY, away score and break, and still in the singles. You are now surely well ahead in whinge of the season. This is usually a very close run thing, and usually dominated by table rants, however this season you have brought some real quality to the proceedings.
Is it just me, or has POY become the main event. Whatever happened to scraping against relegation, striving for promotion, winning for your team, etc.
Hi Mods Will send my apology to H as soon as I have posted this, just could not help myself. TSO

Oh bother, and there was me thinking that I could win the moaner of the year contest....... only to find that H is beating me at that too! ::) ;D ;D ;D
I used to think that POY was important..... and probably had a chance to win the Premier version this season...... until I realised that being able to enjoy the evening, in nice relaxed surroundings, was actually far more important. :-X :-X
Nice one Shaun. 8-)

Eight Bells 2 - 3 Watermill B
Trevor Appleby1870 Adi White 1280 This is a game Adi should have won he broke off with 1300 but in doing so left the one ball behind the 10 hole he hit it but in doing so hit the peg on the way back. Gary Foster 1460 Mark Ridley 1330. This game was nip and tuck all the way through.Last ball mark needed the 100 to win and Gary the 200 to win.Marks first was a long way off then he had a second go and clipped the edge of the pocket his third attempt same result andn Gary finally got the 200 at his third attempt. Tony Driver 0 Gavin Boyd 1400 This was another low scoring game that could have gone either way.Gavin managed to put together a decent break mid way and that won him the game. Pam Peacock 1200 Martin Range 1630 Martin just managed to win this at the end.Pam was unlucky with several shots and who knows what wouldhave happened if they had gone in. Ros Appleby 2410 Paul Blackburn 3430 I hit my opening break too soft and left both balls over the 50 pockets but Ros did not take full advantage.I had no score on the board after my first six or seven shots and Ros was by now building up a bit of a lead. She managed to get the break back a few times but did not take advantage.About ten minutes left and I was over a 1000 behind but got the break back and knocked up 1900.There was not enough time then for Ros to catch up.A good win but dissapointed we did not get the 5.0 I think we deserved on the night.
