Heres a report on the Duke of Wellington’s marathon 2 match session in Worthing League and Cup last night.
Firstly we played the Elms at the Duke of Wellington starting at 7pm.
Chris Reeves and Richard Wooton put the Duke 2-0 up and we looked like we were cruising. However, Glenn played poorly and lost the third to Terry Denyer, and I had to play Dave France 4th. 2 goes at the break netted 1,200 and a further 5k was pegged. Dave got the break back but left the one up short on 3k and I managed to hold it together to put us 3-1 up. Not really to worry as although Ron Brewer got a 4k lead in the 5th, super sub Gareth Lloyd got a 7k break to make the score 4-1.
On to the Cup semi at the Swan v Three Horseshoes. I arrived at the score of 1-0, Chris Reeves having won a “game he should never have won” by 10 against Kevin Hall. KT cam back from 5k down to beat Glenn Chubb to make it 1-1. Dave Hampton beat Gareth Lloyd, and Richard Wooton beat Mal Spier to setup a equal breaks decider between me and Stuart Mepham.
I managed to amass a 12k lead with the bar gone but I decided not to end the evening’s entertainment there. Going for a 3 ball shot of the side cushion I rimmed the 50 hole with the cue ball, which travelled across the table, rimmed the other left hand 50 hole, and headed towards the 200, which it went down as clean as a whistle. Captain Chris did not look impressed. And it was proof to me that you can never be complacent in this game otherwise it will kick you in the ass.
So after all that the Duke are now just two wins from the league and cup double.

Swan `B` 3 - 2 Warren Club.
Matthew Squire beat Paul Barnett. Roger Taylor beat Nick Brown. Barry Holt beat Tony Burgess. Gary Ridley beat Doug Mahy. Neil Higgins beat Phil Oakley.
A good social night was had by all. By the way the two games that Nigel is talking about to win the league and cup double are both against the Swan `B`.
