I have had an appeal against the marking as incorrect of Battle of the Black Sea.
I accept that the proof is there, courtesy of Google, but I must say that although I have read the book about Black Hawk Down, I have not heard it referred to as the battle of the Black Sea. And because I associate the Black Sea with a completely different region of the world (between Europe and Asia, and nowhere near Mogadishu or Somalia, this is why I marked it as wrong.
So if somebody can give me a valid reason why Black Sea comes into it, I will award points as appropriate.

So if somebody can give me a valid reason why Black Sea comes into it, I will award points as appropriate. Like you Tommo, I would usually associate the Black Sea with another part of the world entirely.... however I seem to remember it being called that on the news at the time and there are other articles that say the same.... I'm not convinced. There was also a Battle of the Black Sea in 1943 in the correct place: ww2db.com/battle_spec.php?battle_id=129See, I can Google as well ! You have not really explained the connection with a 'black sea' - nor even touched on 'Black Hawk Down' (might have given you a point for saying that Black Hawks are helicopters.) ;)

Having spent some time trying to research the background for any connection to a Black Sea in the region of the Horn of Africa, I - along with Warrior obviously - have drawn a blank at finding one.
All I can speculate is that the chopper pilots nicknamed it thus as they looked down on the ruined city of Mogadishu against the backdrop of the beautiful white sands.
I was rather hoping a military specialist such as MicktheHammer would come to the rescue, but in absence of any further intelligence I will grant a point each to Sir KT and BBW (as I marked them wrong when right) and thus close the quiz once more.
Final points: 1 Sir KT 16.5pts 2 SpecialOne 10pts 3 Barbelman 6pts 4 DaveJones 4pts 5= Scooner 2pts 5= H & J 2pts 7 BB Warrior 1pt
