Hi All
I was recently talking to Kev and Tommo at the 7-a-sides about playing the long overdue return leg in Sussex of the kipling tart competition. We have provisionally agreed the 21st November.
Tommo has the Mill House, Crawley pencilled in this Saturday for a sit down meal for us at 6pm. Tommo has kindly said that Sussex will sponsor us half the cost of the three course meal which is excellent value at a tenner!!? :o The plan then is to commence the 9-a-side Kipling Challenge in the other bar at 7.30pm.
Tommo has also said that because accomodation is expensive (being close to Gatwick) he will ask around the players etc down there and is sure that we will be put up (not put down I hope)!!!
I am looking to get a team of nine players so all people that are interested in this and want to play please send me a PM. All people who played in the last match in Thrapston will know what a fantastic night it was......especially Damo's supermarket trolley racing in Kettering's Marks & Spencer's car park!!! ;D :o
Cheers
Jase

This has been in the offing for a couple of months, and it would be nice now to be able to firm up arrangements.
The plan if staying overnight is to fit two more matches in on the Sunday - one Sunday lunchtime on the Sussex coast, and one 'homeward bound' in the evening vs a Surrey team, at the Old Oak in Mead Vale (Redhill).
This would seem to combine two elements - 1) The Kipling Challenge, and 2) A Northants mini-tour. 8-) 8-) So we hope that you tarts will be up for it ! ;) ;D

KT has pointed out a clash with All England competitions, and as he is organising phase 2 of the 'tour' we now think 5th/6th December would be a better time to do it. Gives us all a bit more breathing space................

......................and who will Lolly pledge his allegiance to?!?!!? :o ;D Well as your party is likely to be 8, we can lend Lolly to Northants for old times' sake. This gives you a huge advantage when it comes to the Sunday lunchtime game of course - but never mind. ;) Southern Tarts team is more or less sorted, accommodation being worked on. So as Delia would say........... .............................................LET'S BE HAVING YOU. ;D

The Nov date was a bit dodgy for me initially due to a presentation evening on the Saturday and a social event the next day. The December 5/6 dates are the weekend of our Xmas competitions.

We could go for the weekend in between (28th/29th November) but I have a feeling that there's a reason why K.T. didn't suggest that.......

Sunday 29th November is British Grand Prix and Over 50/60's Competitions at Reading Tommo..... ;) The weekend before that is the Mixed Pairs so that would probably be a no-go as well. ;) I don't think that there are any competitions on weekend of 12th-13th December though...... but that may be a bit close to Xmas I suppose? ???

......................and who will Lolly pledge his allegiance to?!?!!? :o ;D As you know Jase, I will always be a Northants lad!! I would love to have the option to play for both teams. If was to be the 21st/22nd then I would struggle due to prior arrangements. Dec 5th/6th seems ok for me but will go with the flow. Looking forward to it and preparing my liver as we speak!! ;D ;D ;D

We're rapidly running out of options...................
21/22 Nov is inconvenient to key people............ 28/29 Nov is a no go due to the Grand Prix event (as BBW has pointed out) 5/6 Dec is reserved for Northants Xmas competitions 12/13 Dec counts my venue out as too close to Xmas (restaurant full etc)
Northants have the final say anyway on when they want to do a 'tour', and I would recommend that it now be shelved until the New Year. :-/

[5/6 Dec is reserved for Northants Xmas competitions Tommo, it's nothing to do with Bar Billiards, it's just me, it's the golf club xmas competitions 8-) And you wouldn't not want me to be there, surely not? ;D 8-)

Sounds like you have just about found sufficient tarts to make it a goer. So I'll make a firm arrangement for the 5th December with the Mill House tonight, and we can fine-tune the rest of the details later.
Not sure about the 'posh Sussex' bit - have you ever been to Crawley ? ;D

If Ian can't make it then maybe we should arrange for early next year? :)

Obviously now is too late to arrange this year. Tommo/Kev do you want to come up with a few dates for the new year and we can get something sorted. :)

Hi Jase,
Agreed that Kipling Challenge should now be planned till early in 2010.
Arrangements are open-ended down here, we have the Crawley venue and a team of nine on standby for whenever you want to put in an appearance.
It's really down to you boys to decide the scale of your operation: Do you want to do another 8 counties challenge, or just want a mini-tour with three matches ? We also have a match on the Sussex coast lined up and one vs Surrey at the Old Oak again on standby.
So suggest we broach the subject again after Christmas and chew over a few dates then when your plans are more definite.
Regards, tommo
