Congratulations to Wallingford's Phil Collins on winning the Oxfordshire County Singles for the first time and to Oxford's Pauline Withey who won the Ladies title in a close final, against Sue Atkins. The event was held at the Portcullis Club in Wallingford.
Their were 18 strong players taking part in the mens, on 4 tables, one of which was the famous dark coloured table, that always produces high scores. This was to be no exception, as Phil made the highest break of 26,850 on it, in 17 min's 50 sec's......brilliant.
The Semis were between Phil and myself and Leon Beer against Mark Trafford. As Phil had played tables 1 & 2 and I had played 3 & 4 it was decided to play our match on the Club table. I won the toss and put Phil in, on his first split he whipped the 50 hole and took the black peg out to give me the break back, but I also whipped my first split and missed my next shot. We both got the break back again, but neither of us could get going on the table. Phil eventually settled to win the 1st game 11,000+ to 6,000+. I made an early mistake in the 2nd game and Phil made enough to win.
I wish I had played him on the Dark table now. :(
I expect Mark will put in a report of the Final and the Ladies.
Keith.

Sorry Mark, I see you put your report in before me, it took me a long time, because I was talking on the phone to our friend Ray and eating a large salad. :)

Congrats to him and Pauline on winning their respective county singles. Our Sussex winners Rick Dewdney and Jean brackenridge will be taking them on in the AE singles later in the year.
