I decided to check this one out today and I wasn't disappointed: www.ukpubfinder.com/pub/31164The Rose and Crown, East Grinstead is a delightful pub and ticks all the boxes for me as to what would make a great venue for our game. Clean, bright, spacious inside, friendly landlord/landlady, good atmosphere and a good selection of ales and bar food available. The table, a SAMS with electronic coin slot on the side, has a good cloth and cushions, is fast and level, and is easy to whip up a score on. And it's in an ideal position. Apparently the table gets played every day, but only by the locals for fun. I hope that, one day, League bar billiards will return to East Grinstead - this pub deserves to be a league venue. I left my Mid Sussex calling card.

How things can change in just a few weeks................
............. Had a super day there last week, great pub lunch and Margo loved the table. Only problems the lack of a D and spots. (Just two pencilled marks either side of the 100 and out of position by about an inch). Mentioned it casually to the landlord and promised to come back and sort it out for him (free of charge, of course.)
Went on the bus again today, armed with 'D'-making kit (Duck tape and Compass cutter). Table not working, the electronic timer had packed in. The fruit machines and juke box were being emptied of coins, and the bar billiards too.........The landlady mentioned to the Coin Machines rep that a call had been put out this Tuesday to have the timer repaired but had heard nothing since.
I mentioned that I would be more than happy to make a new 'D' for it, and was told by the Coin Machines Rep in no uncertain terms that no-one apart from them was allowed to touch the table. >:(
Their loss, I won't be going there again in a hurry, and we had lunch instead in a bistro round the corner. I shall however stick a D and some spare spots in the post to the landlord as it's not his fault - although he had previously given me the impression that it was he who owned the table ! :o
