Mill House Z 4, Laughing Fish 1
Strange table tonight, played very fast for the 1st two games, and then someone let Winter in through a big pair of double doors (access to the smoking area) and it slowed down dramatically for the last three. Henry took time to suss it but settled down well eventually to beat Johnny T who stepped in for Graham who had tickets for Arsenal v Barcelona.
Barry T 1820, Ray Carpenter 1070 Johnny H 3930, Chris Ashford 2130 Johnny T 930, Henry Brooks 6540 Clive T 3760, Les Whiteman 1090 Mick H 7290, Andy Brooks 1370
The match was a lot closer than the scores suggest, everyone had their chances. The Fish lived up to their name and polished off most of the supply of bottled real ale. ;D

Hurst 'A' 3 Watermill 'A' 2
This report added by Roy:
Hurst A enjoyed a rare win at the Hurst Club to get them off the bottom. Their unlikely victims were the A Team who are gently travelling down the table. The Old Fella took the first low scoring frame from Chris Nikolaj, then The A Team then got a move on with Kim Stenning hitting a bif 5K past Papa Hall and a patient game from Big Norm overcame a more impatient Bobhall. Lady H got Hurst back into the match with a close fought win over Rodney Storr leaving Jenny Edwards, on her return to good health, to take the last from John Staplehurst.

Plough PG 5 Saints 0
This report added by Roy:
Plough PG put on a devastating display to demolish their nearest rivals with a whitewash. They were at home to Saints who are now 12.1/2 points off the lead. A captain’s match saw Darren Newnham overcome TSO. Sean Turner then stepped up to the plate to take the next from The Old Warhorse, Peter Geal. A 6k from Chase Newman was more then enough to put aside the efforts of Manly Harveys, and Chris Farrow continued the rout, defeating Roger Wallbank. A 6K from Dave Knight overcome Matt Geal in the last.

Oh the misery.
Plough LB 5 Hurst B 0
:-X :-X :'(
This report on the match added by Roy:
Plough levered themselves up into second place with an all points win at home over Hurst B. A good opening bash between Plough’s Geoff Parsons and Hurst’s Dave Evans went to the home side. Another good game in the second where Hurst’s Chris Kirkham ran out a close second to Keith Potter. Scores getting lower and closer as Des Gasson barely defeated Dazza to take the match for Plough. The only big score went to Mark Potter with a 5K over Steve King and Mark Webber took the last frame from The Giff.

I have received this report from Lyn Storr of the Woolpack:
STOP PRESS!!! BREAKING NEWS"""
The Woolpack won their 1st game of the Season last night!!!. Whoopee!!. We played a poorly team of The Droops (two of them not too well) and won 3 -2. We only had four players. More news and scores from Roy at the weekend no doubt.
Regards Lyn Storr

I was at the Brewers last night and watched the match (even scoring one as poor Jock had received a brick in the eye at work earlier in the day and virtually had one eye shut). The Woolpack actually might have had this one 4-1 but the person they wrote down on the card sadly couldn,t arrive. This left the last one as a friendly between Liam and Dan, whose combined age is just 29 and had it not been for the pegs, would both have amassed well over 3k each. Not bad considering each of these young guys considers Billiards as their "second" game. Dan won this one, and is actually a registered player for the Woolpack, but it was a bit too late to change things. Anyway, for the record: Jim beat Costa Jan beat Colin Russel beat Jock Lynn lost to Andy (Andy finished on an agonising 9990).

Congratulations to the Woolpack, you've been knocking on the door of a win all season. 8-)
Watermill B 1 Eight Bells 4
Another match where a player didn't show and another player could have been used - if it had only been known at the time of the draw.
Martin Range 2700 Nick Brown 7120 Mark Ridley 2890 Posh Bob 600 Paul Blackburn 1580 Ros 2290 Walkover to Tony Driver Gavin Boyd 2030 Trevor Appleby 2440
In the first game, Nick opened with 3k and then added several smaller breaks. Martin fought back bravely in the dying minutes of the game, but did not have enough time.
Mark Ridley played steadily to give Posh Bob very little chance.
After I did a perfect two up shot on the break, Paul should have walked all over me. But he lost two decent breaks and also handed me a ball in front of the 50 hole - never leave Ros up on the 50s! ;)
Gavin Boyd and Trevor had a really close game. Gavin took an early lead, but Trevor got to grips with the table and pulled ahead at the end of the game.
Tony Driver then played a friendly against Gavin the landlord (organiser of the new Watermill tournament) which Gavin won. So the result could have been closer if Gavin had been in the draw instead of the absent player.
Thanks to the Flying Dutchman and his team for a great evening. Thanks also to the Watermill for providing enough sandwiches to feed a small army!
