Team Cup Final Mill House Z 3, Laughing Fish 2 --------------------------------------- The Fish threw everything but the kitchen sink at the league champs, but were overturned by a couple of Johnnies. ;)
T5 Mick Holmwood 1520, *Andy Brooks 2850 T4 *Graham Daniels 8480, Jim Ashford 1010 T3 *John Turner 3320, Henry Brooks BP
2-1 to t'Mill at this stage, but the Fish's break and the even break to come...........
T4 Barry Timson 1110, *Dave Ingram 8610 T3 *Johnny Haigh 2810, *Les Whiteman 1750
With apologies for the following leader................ Fish left flapping and floundering after earlier encounter with Watermill, and found the other Mill too much of a struggle, finishing up battered. ;D

Thanks to Lorraine for an extremely well run night. 8-)
TEAM PLATE FINAL
Eight Bells 3 HHUSC 2
The first three games were played simultaneously:
Rob Driver* 1590 Mick Kirwan 2960 Tony J 2910 Sparky* 6400 Nick* 5200 Bill Boyce 1740
Rob pegged on his opening break and Mick played steadily to pull further and further ahead throughout the game. Sparky off at about 2k. TJ got the balls back and overtook, but Sparky immediately retaliated with a good 4k. Nick also started with about 2k, but he was always in charge of this game.
2-1 to HHUSC
The next game was played on its own:
Ros 4570 Terry Gasson* 1330
Terry put the break down once and then left both balls in front of the 50 pockets. I got a few hundred from that, but failed to clear. A 3k break towards the end of the game put it out of Terry's reach.
2-2 ... and so to the last game - no pressure Tony D!
Tony D* 1420 Ron Wales* 1290
This game went right down to the wire, with two very evenly matched players who had us all on the edge of our seats. Ron ended up with a ball beside the 10, needing to keep one ball up for a 200 finish, but both balls went down to leave Tony the winner.
3-2 to the Bells. Thanks to HHUSC for a great match.
Nick's speed break score was 1750 in the minute. This was achieved with a couple of 50/200 splits (and the help of a fair quantity of beer!)
The highlight of the evening for me was watching Margo playing out of her skin to clinch the last game in the mixed doubles - well played! :)

Hello. Good to hear it went well last night.
A query on the ladies highest away score. I didn't know there was such a thing, so don't know if it only applies to the top division? or if there's a typo in the figure given above? But I scored 6180 (for the Plough PG at the USC) which is more than Lorraine's 5810 as listed.
Jan Bithell
Roy Wells would be the person to query this with, Jan. But he doesn't use the Forum very often.

A couple more reports and some superlatives.
Mixed Doubles Clive & Margaret Thompson 2 Paul & Lynne Moyes-Robb 1
Ros has summed it up with her kind comment about Margo. This competition has a special meaning for us, as we won the first-ever Mid-Sussex Mixed to be staged in 1981/82 - as newlyweds :o (representing the Victory, incidentally). And here we still are, all these years later ! :-* Anyway, we had to come back from the dead on this one, the first game was all Paul (and on my break too ::) :'( ) and in game two we struggled to make an impact and were a thousand behind for most of the game until I got the break back right at the end. In the decider, I was very much the worst of the four players, with Paul regaining his form of the first game and Lynne chipping in with some useful support. Then suddenly Margo took the game by the scruff of the neck with a superb thousand break to level the scores, and on her next visit cleared the table once more to give what proved to be an unassailable lead. Didn't let me down in my hour of need, good on you, girl ! :-* :-* :-* For us, our eighth final and fifth title, overtaking Tim and Pam Peacock. 8-) For first-timers Lynne and Paul, you were so close, worthy finalists, and no reason why this shouldn't be the first of many.............. 8-)
Mid-Sussex Masters Henry Brooks 2 Clive Thompson 0
2010 Finals Night was all about Henry, who if I have calculated this right collected SEVEN awards. One minor blip in the Team Cup final against bar billiards legend John Turner 8-), but H bounced back to be worthy Masters winner. The table was far from easy, especially on the break, and my lead of 3k was easily overtaken by H, once again in full flow, to leave him 2k ahead with his break to come. In the second leg I was able to consolidate following a surprising early mistake and actually managed to reverse the lead. But H managed to clear all of the difficult balls I had left him :'( and sorted out a good one-up shot (if I go that thin I invariably get a peg !) to lay the ball well back for a "no-danger" split. In full flow again (awesome to watch) H played it out to finish on 5k again. Well done, sir !

Can I thank all the organisers, the hurst club and everyone who attended for making it a thoroughly enjoyable night (even if I was on limited beer due to driving duties!).
Thanks especially to Lorraine who worked very hard on timetabling and arranging everything and she did a great job once again!

Looks like that might be all we're getting in the way of reports........ so just to add some further credits to: - Dave Ingram - Singles Champ for 3rd year running
- Jenny Edwards - two finals running - maybe 3rd time lucky next year ?
- Hayley Tunstall - has been a West Sussex Ladies Champ, now the Mid Sussex title holder
- Margo - for showing us how she can play, and of course the Two Johnnies. ;) ;)
- Pete Edwards - excellent master of ceremonies.
- Graham Sparksman - for ensuring the tables were playable - and level – and playing in his second Singles final in three years. Maybe next year you’ll get to be the bride and not the bridesmaid again Graham !
Don't forget folks, AGM in two weeks' time. [edited to match report on the website]

Did anyone keep a record of how the Charity League Final between Laughing Fish and Watermill A went ?
All I know is that it went to 2-all and the Fish won the decider.
We haven't had a report with players and scores yet, if someone can give one I'll make sure it gets on to the Mid Sussex website.
Cheers, tommo

Apologies for not posting sooner Rob but definitely a big thank you for helping me with the tables :D and thanks to Lorraine and everyone else who helped make this such a good event.
Dave deserved his win against me in the Singles with a very good performance on a table some others found difficult, well done BBW.
Congratulations to all the winners, and well done to the Runners'-up for making it to the final in the first place.
