Hurst B 2, Mill House Z 3
Firstly, good (and surprising) to see Darrell large as life at the venue. Right ankle heavily bandaged but he is plaster free and getting about quite nimbly on crutches. He'll be okay for Jersey (but not to play, of course)
The match. Hurst B put up an incredible fight, but the Zeds at full strength had just enough to edge it 3-2.
Colleen Park 3350, Alan Downs 3230. This is one of Alan's favourite tables, he has taken the seasons highest score here more than once in the past. But The Birthday Girl saw him off with some measured play and some impressive shots. 1-0 to Hurst.
Steve King 540, SuperG 10,950. The usually reliable Steve has had a nightmarish week of bar billiards and was off early to let Graham in for a five figure score on two visits. 1-1
John Lear 2780, Barry Timson 3230. John looked like he was going to win this one and somehow contrived to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory. 1-2
Chris Kirkham 1530, MrMike007 1340. Mick struggled throughout, and seemed to find out every slightest little roll on the table. He came tantalisingly close at the end. 2-2
Ian Giffen 3200, tommo 5590. A duel between captains, with tommo making the early running, but then Ian played like a hero with a magnificent break of 3k to draw level. Tommo came back off the ropes to play out time at the end. Unlucky, m8 - that was a close call. 2-3
Some nice food from Ian, and birthday cake as well from Colleen. 8-) 8-)

Keep tipping us to lose guys - we like the challenge! ;)
Eight Bells 4 Brewers Arms 1
Doug W/O (much to his disgust!)
Nick 6220 - Derek Taylor 2790
Tony D 1930 - Dilly Williams 6150
Ros 2690 - The Farmer 1700
Denise 3230 - Jock 1660
Nobody made much of their opening breaks, but got to grips (with varying degrees) later in each game.
A really good evening, with Jock on top form with everything except his game!

BREWERS BRAVOS:4 PLOUGH(lb):1 It was almost a completley new team from the Plough tonight, with only Des being the regular. Lynne:2330 Des:B/P This was cut and thrust all the way. The scores were level until just before the bar went but Des went too close to the black peg when playing a ball behind the 10 hole. A grateful Lynne mopped up.
Nikki:1520 Rick Hammond:900 Close game throughout, Nikki doing just enough to put us 2-0 ahead.
Spud:3270 Steve (Spud) Budd:2050 Almost inevetibaly the gods of Billiards pitted the two spuds against each other. Nip and tuck all the way but a little nibble on the break near the end put me over the finishing line.
Carol Buxton:720 Lewis Webber:1410 This was a good match-up, both being rookies to the league. The balls congregated in the left hand corner to a comical extent though both were playing decent shots. Lewis eventually played some excellent shots into the 100 hole to take this one.
Bravo:8330 Kevin Budd:1450 My score earlier was never likely to prove the tipsters right and so it proved as Bravo put on two early 3k breaks before taking his foot off the accelerator. Kevin played a good game actually and was on break a few times but was caught out by what is a tricky break shot.
So our teams scores in the last 4 weeks are 1-4, 2-3, 3-2, 4-1. Does this mean we will be whitewashing the Millhouse next week? ;) Well, we can dream at least! (or twice as apparently myself and Bravo will be there in there in the Horsahm league on Tuesday :o).
Thanks to the Plough team for a good evening of billiards.
P.S. How do some of you get the results so quickly? Bobhall had posted this result before the last ball had beem sunk it seems. I think its telepathy although there is probably a far less prosaic and "Mobile Phone" based reason.

Watermill B 2, Greyhound 3 Gavin 1890 - Paul 2670 Good start from The Pub Landlord showing a deft touch around the table but some good play from Paul gave the first game to the visitors. Gavin 2390 - Ted 1530 Some good steady play early on from Brighton Gav and managed to keep in front for the rest of the game despite some good attempts from Ted. Martin 3990 - Geoff 1200 Breaks of 1700 and 1950 saw The Flying Dutchman take command and never really gave Geoff a chance despite his best efforts. Paddy 640 - Neil 2970 Paddy was unlucky early on pegging a good break to let Neil back in. 1300 and 870 breaks were enough to win the game and take it to 2-2. Mark 1530 - Peter 2040 Peter got off to a good start with a nice break and yours truly could not really get going even managing to peg a nice break. Peter WP'd a few as well but was consistent enough to take the final match and the win for the Greyhound. Many thanks to the Greyhound - genial as ever.

Have heard that the Fish were 3-1 up at the Lodge..... but there was some controversy during H's match, which had been played earlier in the evening when his opponent conceded during the course of the game when H was well ahead. :o
Maybe H can enlighten us....... ???

Well Spud, with most pubs closing at 11pm and allowing for a 20 minute drive home and time to start up the computer and post your report, 11.30pm is about right for getting the first results in. 8-) Perhaps we should be asking what you do between 11pm and when you post your report at 1.20am...... more than 2 hours after the pub has closed. ??? :o But, thinking about it, maybe we don't want to know...... :-[ :-X ;D ;D

To answer Spud, in Mid Sussex we have a very useful one of these: For example, I get a regular phone text from Neil Burchell advising me the Greyhound result. And from 10.30pm mobile phones are buzzing throughout the region. ;)

I think that it is probably something to do with the fact that at least one of the servers operated by Proboards has the wrong time on it. I posted a reply last night just after I got in at at 11:49, got timestamped as 10:49!!

Doug, Proboards is a Global outfit, and to cure the time anomaly you need to amend your profile to: "Currently observing DST (Daylight Savings Time) = YES." And then back to "NO" when the clocks go back........... This goes for everybody!

Horns Lodge 2 - 3 Laughing Fish
In order played (since Chris Farrow was in a meeting right until the end!)
Nick Pitcher 900 vs 2230 Andy Brooks * *Tom Massey 340 vs 2360 Chris Ashford Kevin Stevens 2970 vs 1430 Les Whiteman * Geoff Winson 590 vs 9990 H * *Chris Farrow 6150 vs Ray Carpenter 930
We actually had a thoroughly enjoyable night at the Lodge. The beer was tip top, the food was excellent, and the majority of the home team were great company.
Sadly, Geoff decided after about 2/3rds of the clock was gone, not to return to the table after I touched up on a 7.5k break. Shame because we'd had quite a tussle early on before I got the break back. Table was playing beautifully and one of us could have knocked in a fair bit more but I guess we'll never know!

Better late than never eh!
HH USC 3 - 2 Woolpack
Mick Kirwan 650 - 5580 Lyn 'TOP SCORE' Storr* Lyn broke off with a super 3550 and added to it with great regularity, meanwhile poor Mick couldn't hit the proverbial barn door.
Ron Wales* 2510 - 1360 Jan Hinkins Ron played well for this win.
Terry Gasson 5330 - 1010 Anne Stockinger* Terry made a good 3k on his first visit for a well deserved win.
Ray Pratt* 2660 - 3310 Malcolm Fuller Malcolm played well and looked well in charge until Ray started to catch up....but too late.
Graham Sparksman 3740 - 1900 John Brocklehurst* John played this 'last game table' very well and lost a few good scores but was still leading until Sparky finally got into gear and finished it off with a winning break.
Good company as usual with the new faces of Malcolm and 'Big Nige' as a bonus.

Missed last night's game, in Crawley with unwell mother. Think we lost 3-2, with one of our 2 being a walk over.

compliments off the old fella
The A Team went to Saints and took the win even though they too only had 4 players. Rodney Storr took the first leg from Bob Ellis and Big Norm made it 2 up with a win over Chris Little. Matt Geal put one on the board for Saints beating The A Team skipper, Kim Stenning. Chris Nikolaj took the fourth frame from Peter Geal giving the visitors the win. Roger Wallbank had the walkover.
