Good debate. To answer Tony's question, my split shot thingies are always lead free. There are far better ways of controling the swan menace. Shaun

Good debate indeed and unusually will post about it 8-)
I have said before that it is a 'good player' table and do not like the fact that it very difficult to set up for 'all' to play (which is my target). Because it goes 'off' so easily it is also subject to conditions such as heat, damp etc. despite appearing to be in a good area, but always try to get the best out of what is there.
Good points have been made about the onus being on the players to adapt to whatever any table does on-the-night, but the difference in ability of the Monday & Wednesday night teams surely goes a long way towards explaining the results.
I have absolutely no problem with the table ladder, nor would I quibble about the USC position as it is based on results, indeed it is a healthy process that might encourage some others. Finally I think of Craggy as a very good player and there is no reason why he cannot score well tonight.

A very fair response from the keeper of the table.... 8-) Good points have been made about the onus being on the players to adapt to whatever any table does on-the-night, but the difference in ability of the Monday & Wednesday night teams surely goes a long way towards explaining the results. I have absolutely no problem with the table ladder, nor would I quibble about the USC position as it is based on results, indeed it is a healthy process that might encourage some others. Finally I think of Craggy as a very good player and there is no reason why he cannot score well tonight. I would agree that the Monday night team is generally stronger than the Wednesday team at USC, however most of the "criticism" of the table has come from players that I would consider to be among the stronger players within MSBBL, rather than the people who perhaps are less able to adapt to a table. The only reason that I would question the position of the table in the Tables Table is that there have been individual scores of 5k or more on 5 occasions out of the 7 league matches played on the table. Usually, a 5k score is sufficient to move the table up the ladder..... but it has only gone up on 1 of the 5 occasions and has been taken down on one of the other occasions when there were only scores of 3 & 4k recorded..... although several other tables have remained "neutral" when the same has happened to them. These are the reasons that I have made the points that I have previously.....

Okay, let's start with Tommo..... Week 15 - 19/01/2011 Mill House Z 3 Plough Lower Beeding 2Can the Zeds complete the first half of the season unbeaten? Having this target means we won't be complacent........4-1 home win.1 point for the home win..... plus a special 2 point bonus in recognition of your teams achievement of going through the first half of the season unbeaten. 8-)Eight Bells 4 Horns Lodge 1Last week's freakish result to be shrugged off, table back to normal after having been lent out to SCBBA.......5-0 home win, and Nick and Doug back to their best.1 point for the home win, I'm not sure that Nick was back to his "best" but his win earns you a bonus point and Doug's 15k has to be worth 2 bonus points. ;DSt Francis 0 Plough Plumpton 5The Frannies are on a roll, no joy for the Plumpers.......4-1 home win.The Frannies roll was stuffed..... no points. :oWatermill B 0.5 Laughing Fish 4.5This one could go either way, table may not suit H's flamboyant style, can come back and bite you.....3-2 home win.No points here..... :'(Brewers Bravos 2 Hurst A 3A high scoring match here, but Hurst with sufficient firepower to come away 3-2 winners. Only 1 big score from Bravo, but 2 points for the correct result.Hurst B 0 Brewers Arms 5Hurst B have some good players but some of the Arms players have 'table knowledge' from playing Interleague here. Another 3-2 away win, big hits from Delboy and the Farmer.1 point for the away win with 2 bonus points for the wins by Delboy and the Farmer. ;)United Services Club 4 Watermill A 1Sparky to inject some magic back into the table, will be in there at 6 o'clock cleaning the pockets and applying the ball repellent spray. ;D Could pay dividends for the away team, though. 3-2 to the Mill with Kim hitting big and Chris winning the pivotal game. I t looks as if the ball repellent spray worked in favour of the home team, no points for the surprise result and Kim and Chris both lost so no bonus points either. :'(,Woolpack 1 Greyhound 4Greyhound will kickstart their revival with a 4-1 win. They certainly did..... spot on for 2 points. ;DPoints this week...... 14.0

Now Spesh..... Only me Z's 5 PLB 0 Very sorry that I am predicting a loss for all PLB players. We lost 5-0 there so you might as well. If Z's win 5-0., at least 3 of their players will win, possible more. A number of the PLB team will not bang their heads on the beams. Will not name them as I do not wish to offend the Vertically Challenged (shortarses). A great start to the week for Spesh, 1 point for the Home win. Zeds won 3-2, so 3 of their players did win so that is worth 3 bonus points. A special bonus for predicting that a number of the PLB team will not bang their heads and 2 bonus points for your totally PC (or how PC should really be) manner in not naming them..... I'm still laughing when I read it a week later. 8-) ;D ;D ;D
8 Bells 4 Horny Lodge 1 Spot on for 2 points. :DSaints 2 PPG 3 Back to earth ......with a BIG bump. 1 point for the away win, with PPG applying the brush. :oWatermill B 2 Fish 3 A rare draw in one of these games, 1 point for the away win with the Fish winning 4.5 - 0.5.Bravos 2 Hurst A 3 Spot on for 2 points.Hurst B 2 Brewers Arms 3 1 point for the Away win, the Brewers on form with a 5-0 win.other club 2 Watermill A 3 Big Norm to produce a table moan of an Olympic standard With the other Club winning 4-1, he probably did..... so worth a bonus point anyway! ;DWoolie 1 Hound 4 Have an inkling of who might win for Woolie. Keep it to myself so as not to offend the others. Spot on for the correct result for 2 points, a bonus point as I am sure I knew who you were thinking of (and were correct about) and have another PC bonus for not naming that player. ;)Politacallycorretone Points this week..... 19.0

Good debate. To answer Tony's question, my split shot thingies are always lead free. There are far better ways of controling the swan menace. Shaun Are you referring to my team mate Doug, who plays for Swan B in Worthing league? Agreed, he probably did seem rather menacing to the opponent he put 15k past last night! :o Shaun i often find a rifle helps with that problem Good luck all tonight. I know you're playing him on Friday, Adam - but wouldn't a cue would be a fairer weapon? ;) Just to add another factor to this tables debate - our clock was only running just over 17 minutes last night, (it's been running short since it's little outing to the Sussex comps) I will try to get it running a bit longer, but I have never managed to get it to run over 18 - if I push it too far, the clock stops before the bar is triggered and therefore the bar doesn't drop at all. All sorts of measures have been tried and it's thanks to Tony Driver making a special brass nut, which is on the pendulum, that it runs as long as it does. On the banter thread - I always enjoy reading this when I have time, although I don't usually participate. I think it would be a shame if there were too many rules. I hope that all the regular participants will continue to entertain us all. 8-)

now, all those doubters of the USC, I guess Adam and I think it is just about playable. I think that I may have mentioned something similar a few times....... ::) Well done Adam (and Doug) for your scores on the table that is ranked as the 3rd worst in Mid-Sussex, it must have been a great game to play and watch, which just leads me to think that it must just be on Wednesday nights that the table doesn't play very well..... :P ;D

We knew it was moved, and we knew it would take time to settle in again, and now it seems it has. 8-) Despite no score of 5k being made on it last Wednesday, it went up a rung on the table tables ladder on the basis of reports of 17k being possible on it. A bit unfair though to compare scores made in Singles with those made under the constraints of a League match. Whole different ball game. In Singles you're playing for yourself, whereas in a Team match - Doubles even - there are temmates to consider and it's human nature to 'tighten up' and take fewer risks.

True, Bob, The Brewers didn't play well at all on Monday when JT and I played Auntie Ros and the Swan-men Ace. :o But then that was Doubles, and you don't always try and get the balls back on every visit as you might do when playing Singles. :-/

With all of the results now in, time to add the last few bonuses for this week.... Doug1502 can have a bonus for "most mysterious post" of the week...... Just to let you all know, I am unavailable on a Wednesday every 4th Wednesday commencing last night. Guess that I should have mentioned it before, sorry. Was gonna put that I am unable to play every 4th Wednesday, but I am sure that would have invited comments from one or two quarters. Anyway, no more clues, you have been warned!!!!! .... which confused me totally! :-/ ??? ;D Spesh can have a bonus for "saying it as it is"..... ;D Dave you should not under any circumstances throw in the Crystal Ball. Do not want to see us head towards factual sterility for the sake of political correctness. This is the atmosphere in which the boreing and boreish shouters on of their team, and the unashamed crowers will rule the roost. The subtle sniper. Tommo gains one for his excellent anagram..... 8-) .............he whose name shall never be spoken! ;D Rain Doctor Who (anag.) ;D :D Even Nigel joined in...... 8-) If it really is the second worst table in the Mid Sussex league I might have to give up Brighton league to play in Mid Sussex full time ;) ....I wonder how many offers he has had so far..... :o ;D Spesh tried to compete with Doug1502 with this mysterious entry..... :-/ Good debate. To answer Tony's question, my split shot thingies are always lead free. There are far better ways of controling the swan menace. Shaun While Adam got straight to the point..... :o :o Shaun i often find a rifle helps with that problem Good luck all tonight. Ros chipped in with a couple...... Good debate.
