Between Thursday 20th - Saturday 22nd the Romans table was cut with what looks like a stanley knife through the D and 2 inches in front of it, and also the table at the Duke of Wellington in Shoreham has been given the same treatment. Myself and Marcus own the Romans table and Nigel owns the Duke table.
If anyone knows anything then please let us know, we will be informing the police of what has happened.
To the person / s that have done it, well done !! as you have now put 6 bar billiard teams in danger of losing their venues , as we will be removing the Romans table at the end of the season and Nigel has said he is looking to do the same at the Duke. Both these pubs have 3 teams .
Quite frankly we can not be bothered with it all , so will sell them on and that will be that.
Lets hope Tarrats have some spare tables.

I'm horrified by this mindless vandalism and you guys have my full sympathy.
Obviously someone has a grudge against bar billiards and wants it to vanish completely. They will get their way eventually. May they rot in hell first, though. >:(

I was shocked when saw this on Saturday at the Romans when arrived to play my singles. Table looked bad and called Marcus to advise. I can't believe these people are so mindless, it looked like someone had been scrapping the peg all over the back end of the table with force.

Hi Gary, the scratches at the back of the table was caused by children messing about it , this thread is about the deliberate cut in the cloth going through and past the D on both the tables .

it is a real shame that people would do that even kids mucking about and i am sorry to hear that this has happened to richard marcus and nigels tables. whats even worse is that obviously the land lord was paying no attention to watching people destroy property on there premises.

Are there no CCTV cameras in those two pubs because most have got them installed these days. I know they had them in The Nelson in Oxford when I used to play there, as the landlady checked them when there was any trouble inside or outside of the pub.

Rich, who put the gaffer tape over the D at the Romans? This was on there when we arrived, appeared like someone was trying to cover up the damage?

There is not any cctv, no idea who patched it up. The pub did not and you were the first to notice it Gary so if you played Saturday lunch time it must have happened Thursday or Friday. Not sure either when the Duke of Wellington happened.

It was a shock to see the state of Richard's and Marc's table at the Romans on Sunday, and from my conversation with Reg it seems that my table at the Duke of Wellington has had exactly the same treatment.
Although I find it hard to believe someone would do this deliberately against myself, Richard and Marc, I find it hard to come to any other conclusion as a) the damage has been done in a very similar way and b) it looks like it has been done deliberately with a knife as I can't see how it could be a 'swerve' or 'spin' shot gone wrong. Additionally what are the chances of two tables at two different pubs receiving similar damage within a couple of days of each other by sheer conincidence - so sadly it seems something more sinister is at play.
I have no doubt that the tables will need recovering at mine and Richard's expense, it will be the second time for me in 18 months. Because the damage looks to be have been deliberately by someone with a vendetta, I can't accept the risk of putting the table back in the pub after recovering because it is more than likely this person/s will do it again in the near future.
So the only option for me is to get the table recovered and sell it at the end of the season. a very sorry state of affairs indeed, as if the Romans table goes too, 6 teams will lose their home venues, and the best two tables (as far as I am concerned IMHO) in the league will be gone for good.
As Richard says above if anyone knows anything please let us know...

It certainly is a sad state of affairs for someone to do such a dreadful act to both tables. Surely someone behind the bar of the Duke would have noticed it with the table so close to the bar.

Just read this & agree it is a real shame & feel sorry for Richard Marc & Nigel & all the teams involved. it could have a deeper impact on the League as well if alternative tables aren't found.
I hope it's resolved & that the teams carry on as no League can afford loose teams or players. Ian.

As a table owner myself that is in a pub, it is a bit of a worry that damage will happen at some time, pins go missing etc, but in this case, it does sound that this is one person with grudge, has anyone had a run in with someone recently?
