Must have seemed very strange indeed and my personal thanks to both teams going ahead with this, I know Gina would have wanted things to go ahead as normal.

A very good evening at th New Sussex with plenty of banter, drama, and even some decent bar billiards. Thanks to the landlord for the sandwiches at the end.
Gardeners 3-2 up from 1st leg :-
Game One :- Steve Hurley break opens with 1.2k and first back on break only to come off at 900, leaving Bill Kerr half a chance which he grabbed with steady 3.5k, play then stayed at top of the table 2530 - 4220 0-1 aggregate 2-4
Game Two :- Steve Aylmore opened with steady 2k, Chris Cox unable to retreive break and that was very much the story of his game, Steve able to add another two steady breaks 470 - 6660 0-2 aggregate 2-5
Gardeners very much in the driving seat, Game Three :- Dave Anscombe off early after missing break, Colin Green could not get them back, and in fact both players struggled top of table for a while, Colin first to retrieve break and knoked in 2.5k, added another 1.6k, before as the bar due Dave break back but all too late. 4570 - 1620 1-2 aggregate 3-5
Game Four :- Chris Lucas opened with 3k and no matter what he tried Rick Cunningham could not get the balls back, Chris added another couple of breaks to make sure 6700 - BP 2-2 aggregate 4-5
Game Five :- TJ off at 500 after missing straight 50 after one up, Dave Jones break back off at 1.5k.TJ plenty of chances but each time break back broke down very early, Dave kept adding to his lead and made sure match went to the deciding play off 4680 - 2650 3-2 aggregate 5-5
Short break then onto the match tie break decider, captain Dave Jones having nominated himself opened with 2k, his counterpart TJ having had a senior moment and named himself opened with 4.9k before getting out of position and deciding to keep what he had by touching up. Dave spent a patient couple of minutes chasing th balls around at the top before getting break back, he set about the lead and as the bar went was within striking distance, in fact with the last ball in the tray he needed 100 to draw or 200 to win. Opted for 100 and missed, TJ went high and missed, Dave different actic and went for win onllt to black peg. BP - 5160 3-3 Arregate win to Gardeners 6-5.
Thanks for a great evening and commiserations to the New Sussex Hotel B, never nice to lose that way, but what a fight back, and although not high scoring a decider that was worthy of its name.

The second leg of the semi-final was played at The Gardeners last night....
Plough Plumpton holding a slender 3-2 lead from the first leg. ;)
Steve Aylmore 0* - 12,160 Dave Ingram Steve never seemed to settle and was unfortunate enough to lose to lose his opening score and give me the break back, I touched on just under 8k and was first to get the break back again. 0-1 (2-4 overall)
Rick Cunningham 10,000 - 1,740* Jan Bithell Jan looked comfortable until she left the red ball shorter than she wanted on the one up and came off shortly after, Ricky had a couple of good breaks and never looked in trouble. 1-1 (3-4)
Bill Kerr 310 - 14,500* Henry Brooks Henry missed both balls on his first split and Bill was quick to get the break back, only to take a peg out and give Henry the break. Henry gratefully knocked in 8k+ and added another 6k break on his next visit. 1-2 (3-5 overall)
Terry Molloy 9,950* - 0 Dave Knight The pressure very much on the home team now, but Terry stepped up to the plate and opened with 5k+ then added a couple more smaller breaks with Dave never getting a chance. 2-2 (4-5 overall)
Last game and all down to the two Captains.......
Tony Jenner v Darren Newnham Darren's opening break and, after a fairly nervous start, he settled down to make a solid 5.5k opening break. Tony got the balls back straight away and set about the chase looking comfortable until the white ball whipped out at the back on a 50/10 split leaving the ball just on the right side of the 10 hole. Sadly for Tony he missed the ball losing his score, Darren didn't and added a couple of breaks to make sure. Tony 360 Darren 10,190
Fair to say that the Gardeners had the worst of the luck on the night, with a 3-2 win for the Plough putting them through 6-4 overall.
Two really enjoyable evenings, plenty of friendly banter and laughs in both games..... our thanks to our gracious opponents. 8-)
Sad to hear that it could be the last game played at The Gardeners with rumours that the pub is closing on Sunday..... I don't know if that is a temporary or permanent situation, but understand that our opponents have already arranged to move to a new venue..... a shame, it was probably the best table I have played on all summer! ::) :'( ;D
