Having spoken to Adam this morning, I understand that the reason that he was kicked out of this competition was because of his unavailability on finals night.
If this is the case, then I am shocked that the committee should have made this decision.
I cannot see any rule that Adam has broken and I cannot find any rule that allows the committee to take this drastic action.
Competition rule 11 states:
"The finals of all individual and pairs competitions shall be played on finals night, the date of which shall be made known at the start of the season. In exceptional circumstances, the committee may allow finals to be played on other dates but under no circumstances shall those dates be after the date of finals night."
I understand that Adam had offered to play the night before finals night, if he had qualified. Of course it would be up to the committee to decide whether to allow this or not, under rule 11.
But.......... if he got through the semi-final, the worst that should happen would be that a change of date would not be allowed and the other finalist would get a walkover and Adam would have to settle for the runners up trophy.
If (and it's a big if!) there is a rule that allows the committee to kick Adam out of the competition, then this should have been invoked a long time before this - it is totally unfair on his opponents (Bobhall and H) that he played after his unavailability became known.

As an ex-Pres and now an impartial observer, I would say that Adam has the right of appeal and should take the matter up directly with the Committee - but be quick about it !

It has been agreed tonight that the Semi-Finals will be played tomorrow, including Adam, Tuesday 17th May starting 7.30pm at the Greyhound, Keymer (as a new top and neutral to all players). The Finals situation will be decided following the result.
I realise this is short notice but hope some of you can come along and support the players.

Common sense seems to have prevailed. 8-)
I wish all four semi finalists good luck - especially my 'boyfriend' (as his wife Jenny calls him!) and mixed doubles partner.
I hope to get there later in the evening to see how it's all going.
