Blue Ship 4 Springbok Club 1
S. Holden 2170 T. Wilson 730 M. Johnson 6950 K. Nixon 1100 D. Johnson 2320 R. Parson 390 C. Cathie 4700 N. Peckham (Burgess) 1270 A. Maybee 1810 B. Hicks 1820
Another point on the board for the Springbok lads, courtesy of Bill who pocketed the last ball (red) into the 200 pocket to nick the game from Alan.
Report from the Springbok lads, was loved the pub, found it to be very traditional and unique, good beer, food and great welcome from the Blue Ship players.

Three Bees 1 Alfold SC 4 8-)
J. Tudmore 1720 R. Burgess 3470
Rob started with a modest break, but John did nothing on his first visit. Rob continued to chip away and though no great breaks, moved into a comfortable lead, eventually taking the frame. John really did not get going, seen him play so much better.
R. Child 2680 D. Slater 2440
Dave struggled to find the break, leaving Ron to hit a 2K. Dave responded with 1K and continued to put points on the board, while Ron found the lie of the balls a little awkward. A bit more time and luck (the red ball went down for Dave as the bar dropped), this result may have been a little different.
S. Eely 2250 M. Greening 2920
A steady start from both players as expected, with the Major just nosing in front. A very even game with the balls sitting awkward for both players, with Steve finding it impossible to win the break back.
L. Lennon 1710 T. Goacher 1830
A similar game to the previous one with both Linda and Trevor putting modest points on the board. Linda did edge in front, but Trevor put together a break to bring them level as the bar dropped. leaving 4 balls up. Trevor missed a sitter over the 50, that would have secured victory, but thankfully Linda missed her shot into the 100 to let Trevor back in to clear up.
M. Lennon 1400 G. Fishburn 2660
Both players were struggling with the break and though Mick had local knowledge he could not put this to his advantage. Gaz settled in and put enough points on the board to ensure the game was out of Mick's reach as the bar dropped.
A great evening, with good company, a warm fire and decent beer. The food was most welcome and a good selection of sarnies (with a few egg) but we like them ;). Like the pub and the people a pleasant time had by all.

Alfold Club 5 Springbok Club 0 Played at The Crown
M. Greening 2370 N. Peckham* (Burgess) (Jackpot) 1130 ;D
Jackpot started quite comfortably putting some decent points on the board. The Majors first visit saw him edge in front. A fairly even game, but the experience of the Major won through.
R Burgess 4300* B Hicks 870
The points do not reflect the true game as Bill was unlucky to lose quite a few points finding the white peg on more than one occasion. None the less Rob played a steady game and deserved the result.
D Slater 1450 N Adams 610*
Dave started OK but found the split a little tricky, Nath playing his first match was a little nervous, which showed. A bit of a nip and take game, one that Dave edged in the end.
G Fishburn* 3270 K Nixon 260
Gaz flew out the blocks leaving a good gap between him and Ken, who struggled to make his mark. Gaz was never under any pressure and took the game with some ease.
T Goacher 980 R Parsons 370*BP
Ron did not find the split giving Trevor the opportunity to make a quick lead, no it did not happen. In fact Ron took a comfortable lead, while Trevor struggled with the table. Sadly Ron was robbed of 1K on the board, plus another on his score at the visit, when the ball kicked back from the top of the table to skittle the black peg. Trevor won, but it was not deserved.
A good night and it was good for the Springbok lads to have familiar faces showing them the cup format. Great food from the Landlord, sweet & sour, chips and sausages, not an egg in sight.

Springbok Club 1 Three Bees 4
Sorry have no scores to give you, but can report that Neil Peckham (Burgess) won the game for the newbies and they are on a roll ;D. Apparently young Neil was so pleased he had a little dance to celebrate, he may just be the next Michael Flattery ;)
Great to see them coming together and win or lose they continue to enjoy themselves and are galvanising as a team.
Trouble is we have got them next week in the Cup and the way things are going, there could be a shock on the cards :o

Alfold Club 1 :( Limeburners Cricketers 4
R. Burgess 3690 B.Hammond 3610
A close game with Bill finding the break indifferent to begin with. Rob edged into the lead and then came in with a useful 2K, Bill kept at it and chipped away hitting a 1K break as the bar dropped to edge in front, leaving a ball up, which Rob holed to win this very evenly matched game.
M. Greening 3820 M. Davies 5470
Max went off with a 2K break, which was matched by the Major on his first visit. Max hit 1K on his second visit, the Major then hit 3K only to split 4 times to lose the lot. Max stepped in with another 2K and though the Major put another 1K on the board he ran out of time.
G. Fishburn 1370 K. Vickery 3780
Ken started comfortably with 1K, Gaz for whatever reason just could not get going. Ken kept putting points on the board leaving a frustrated Gaz watching from the wings. Not a tidy match, but one Ken won with some ease in the end.
T. Goacher 740 C. Sawyer 9980
Chip started well with 2K, Trevor frankly fluffed a good opportunity to hit back. With another break of 2K, followed by 4K Chip put the game well out of reach of the frustrated Scubafrog.
D. Slater 2200 B. Goodchild 3530
Brian started steady and Dave responded in kind putting together some decent breaks, though not quite managing to catch the more experienced Brian. This was an even game and it was good to see the rookie Dave play so well.
Another disappointing evening for the Alfold Boys, it seems to be coming a bit of a regular occurrence. Great food from Gaz and his lovely Lady Delia, the usual pickled onions courtesy of Bill and some banter thrown into the mix, made it a pleasant night, regardless of the result.

John Schofield 1190 Tug Wilson 850
Mark Davis 1200 Bill Hicks 1250
Brian Goodchild 5560 Ron Parsons 300
Chip 7740 Ken Nixon 350
Billy Hammond 3110 Neil Packham 1320
Another loss for the Springbok Lads, but they got a point on the board at last, well done Bill.
Report from the Alfold team is that they had a great night, decent food, loved the pub and the fact that the quiz night, which was on attracted a gaggle of beautiful women :) No wonder Ron was distracted ;)
Pickled Onions and Chillies provided and very much appreciated.

Dun Horse 5 Alfold Club 0 :-X
Well as Dunplaying states a bit of a shock result for us Alfold Boys.
Yes the table had a a bit of a quirk, but we all saw it and should have played the table accordingly. I was personally gutted as thought I had played fairly well only to let a lack of concentration lose me the game.
Not taking anything away from the Dun Horse players, they were in good form and deserve the result.
A good evening had by all and yes there was some good chatting to be had.
Nice sandwiches, egg, egg, egg oh and some ham, Dunplaying was highly delighted ;)

Alfold Club 3 Stout House 'A' 2
Sorry did not write the scores down as pre occupied ::)
The Major, Garry and Trevor won for Alfold, while Adam and Gordon put the points on the board for the Stout House.
The Major and Trevor's games were very close and could of gone either way.
A great night, plenty of banter and thanks to Robin for the excellant grub.

Alfold SC 5 Springbok Club 0
T Goacher 2640 T Wilson 350
Tug broke but found the split a little tricky, Trevor responded well only to knock down the white peg. Unfortunately Tug did not capitalise and Trevor managed to put enough points on the board to seal the win, even after losing more points when missing a difficult shot ::)
D Slater 1620 K Nixon 1170
Ken started of confidently to put some decent points on the board. Dave struggled a bit and Ken pushed ahead only to peg put and lose the points from the visit. Late in the game Dave got the break back to put himself in the lead and hold on for the win.
R Burgess 4330 N Peckham 1230
A father and son affair this one and one that looked like being a close thing. Neil started well and took an early lead with Robin making little impact on his first visit. Neil racked up some helpful points but like his previous team mates pegged out. Robin stepped up and put together a break of 3k to put the game out of reach.
G Fishburn 4850 R Kirkbride 20 BP
Robin started badly missing the split, Garry hit 3K, before Robin had a chance for a visit and was unable to make any in roads. Garry furthered his lead with another 1K, before Robin BP trying a difficult shot behind the peg.
M Greening 5580 B Hicks 1040
Bill found the split straight away, but did not put enough on the board before the Major got the break back and knocked in a good 4K. Bill tried his best to claw back some points, but the Major was in no mood to give away his lead.
This was a good result for Alfold, but the Springbok lads were unfortunate in at least 3 of the games. lots of friendly banter and advice given at times, food was up to scratch and the beer always helps.

And here they are...... Stout House Z 2 Alfold Club 3 ??? Richard 7120, Trevor 790 I had a 5k break and thought the table played quite well. Vernon 350, Malcolm 5300 Captain Vern just couldn`t get the break back, whereas Malc played steadily with 2 good breaks. Revenge for Malc ;) Jim 3060, Robin 3970 Jim had the break back twice, but messed up both times. Robin took advantage. John 3660, Dave 2400 John kept up his 100% record. Boy did he let us know :) Newbie Dave looks like he could be a reasonable player. Andy 2580, Gary 5600 Was very impressed with the way Gary played, even managing to shutout the noise of the Finn ::) A very enjoyable night, with plenty of laughs and banter, finished off with some nice food. Well played the Alfold guys. I hear you don`t do gloating ;D Oh we never said we didn't gloat ;D you obviously misheard us, we said that the result put a lump in our throat ::). To be fair Vern and the Silver Fox possibly played the worse I have ever seen them, Jim did work hard but when he got to within touching distance of Rob he came up short. it was a surprise to us all, but very welcome indeed 8-).The Major and Rob played their part in the game and deserved to come out victorious Newbie Dave was solid and very pleased for him, nerves got the better of him in the end, but a good performance none the less. Gary was solid throughout and deserved his win, and the Dorsal was left speechless (well almost). RP was certainly in the zone and though I did get the opportunity to do something, I messed it up again (starting to sound familiar :-[). Well done to Johnny for keeping up his 100% record. Lets hope this game has reset the mark for the Alfold lads :-X SORRY!!

Another defeat for the newbees, but good to see a couple of new faces in their team. Table played up a bit from what I have been told, so will need to check it out.

Alfold SC 0 ::) The Crown 5 :-X
Robin Burgess 1870 versus Hugh Fowler 3390
Hugh broke with a steady 2k, Robin just did not get going and never got the break back. Hugh stayed in front to secure the win.
Trevor Goacher 1380 versus John Thayre 7160
John started with 2 k, leaving balls in inviting position, only for Trevor to muck up. John steadied himself to push ahead and when Trevor got the opportunity to win back the break after clearing the table he missed the ball :-[. It was no contest from there on in.
Dave Slater 1360 versus Dave Sands 7220
Sandsy flew out the blocks, putting on 3k, Dave Slater tried hard to win back the break, but not going for him. Sandsy never looked back.
Malcolm Greening 2390 versus Peter Barnett 7470
Barney took control of this game from early on and though the Major got the break back the damage had been done. An impressive display from Barney.
Garry Fishburn 1190 versus Colin Barrow 2250
This was not the tidiest of games and both players struggled with the table. Sparrow did enough to stay in front to secure a very convincing win for The Crown.
No excuses from Alfold, its was like we had never played the table before ???
A good night, a bit of banter, great food courtesy of the Major and no mention of *****

The Crown 5 Springbok Club 0
Have not got the full match report only feedback from the Springbok Lads.
Sadly Springbok only went with 4 players so were against it from the start. They reported that they enjoyed watching the Crown lads play :o The most important thing to come out of this game for Springbok, is that they enjoyed it, the Crown lads were very welcoming and the new pub tenants were very hospitable. oh and they now realise they may need to start practicing ;)

The Railway 3 Alfold SC 2
Mike Cook 1680 v Garry Fishburn 3010
Garry started with a steady 1.5K break, then neither player made any progress with the table becoming jammed with balls. Mike was unlucky and nothing seemed to be going his way though near the end he did get the break back to build a decent break before the bar dropped.
Steve Marriott 4130 v Robin Burgess 1980
Rob found the break but dropped the peg after building a decent score. Steve stepped up to the table and hit 2.7K. Nothing was going Rob's way and Steve held firm to take the game.
Mark Davies 2390 v Malcolm Greening 2240
As you will see from the result a close game, one that the Major was leading until Mark,s last visit. The Major attempted to play a tactical game building up the points then loading the table (as the bottom was difficult to play), however to Mark's credit he patiently dug in to secure the win.
Mick Clack 1120 v Trevor Goacher 1350
Though this may not look like one of the best games, both players did not get a lot of luck. Mick took the lead and Trevor never looked like doing much, that was until his last visit when he managed to clear the table as the bar dropped and sank the red in to the 100 hole to scrap through.
Nigel Worsfold 5180 v Dave Slater 430
Dave started slowly and struggled with the break letting Nigel to step in with a 4K break. Dave, though very entertaining just could not get into his stride and Nigel came out victorious with a steady game.
A great night (the third time in 3 weeks we have met, the 2 previous as friendlies) and banter was a plenty. Food was very nice thank you and the beer was not too bad either :)

Though was aware the AGM was to be held in July (TBC) I am not sure if all teams were invited to attend.
No matter ;D
Just need a start date for coming season as trying to tempt some players to form a new team, which is proving hard at the moment. however, if I have a start date i can apply some more pressure and the odd bribe ;)
Anyone able to furnish me with a date?

Hi Tommo
Was good to meet you last night and apologise for rushing off, but I had no choice as the driver needed to get back to work. We were always going to be against it versus Pete and his crew but we did not really play well (as you saw) ::) so deserve to lose. I thought Dorsil played some interesting shots in our game :-/ and fair play they come off and he was a convincing winner.
Look forward to meeting up with you again and hopefully I wont have to rush off

The Railway versus Alfold SC @ The Blue Ship
Mike Cork v Robin Burgess
Both players struggled with an indifferent table, struggling with balls on bottom cushion. Mike did put together a 1k break to take the first game for The Railway.
Mark Davies v Garry Fisburn
Gaz started with a 1.2K break, Mark managed to put a few points on the table, but like the previous game both players were not reaping the benefit of good shots due to the table. Gaz did manage to put another 1.2K together to put the game out of reach, but to be fair to both players, who played well in my view, the table did neither of them justice.
Mick Clack v Malcolm Greening
Mick started well but only managed to put 1K on the board before leaving balls up. The Major did not take advantage and came off without accumulating many points. Mick remained steady throughout the game stringing together a couple more 1K breaks. Not the Majors most confident performance. The result put the Railway 2-1 up.
Mick & Ray v Garry & Dave (Scotty)
Gaz broke confidently and it seemed the singles game earlier gave him an insight to the table as he put nearly 2K on the board. Mick came back in the same vein putting a little less than his opponents score up. Ray and Scotty made decent contributions, but this was a game dominated by Mick and Gaz who held his nerve to steer Alfold to another win 2-2
Mark Davies & Mike Cork v Malcolm Greening and Trevor Goacher
Mark broke and very similar to his singles game struggled to accumulate the points finishing just short of 1K. The Major however, seemed a different player and put together a break just short of 2K. Mick managed to add a few more points for the Railway, with Trevor matching him and more. The next few visits for all players were nip and tuck with modest points being added, before the Major put together another 2K break to seal the victory for Alfold who won 3-2
Mike Cork 2410 Robin Burgess 1700 Mark Davies 2710 Garry Fishburn 4230 Mick Clack 4210 Malcolm Greening 1710
Mick & Ray 3750 Garry & Dave (Scotty) 4440 Mark & Mike 2360 Malcolm & Trevor Goacher 4630
(sorry did not know Ray's surname)
A smashing night with plenty of laughs and banter, it was a shame there had too be a winner.

Fantastic job Tommo, clearly a lot of effort has gone into the new site. Sorry that the later years have not been recorded but lets hope someone has a record somewhere. Sadly I have only been around a couple of years so cannot help.
Well done to you and all others involved in setting up the site.

Hi Tommo
I can confirm that the table is still in place and that this Friday (4th June) sees the final of the inter house knockout I organised to encourage new players.
There has been some encouraging interest and I am hoping to convince 6 or 7 players to form a team to enter the Billingshurst league this coming season. The skill level is mixed, but there are signs one or two may make half decent league players.
I will also arrange a couple of friendlies with Alfold Club, who I play for in the hope of giving the potential new team a feel of competition bar billiards.
Watch this space.
Cheers
Trevor
