The top of my table is now away being spruced up, the guy was very impressed with it, apparently all the bits are original, including the pocket insert things which he reckons he can get cleaned up. He doesn't have brown leather just black, but that would go with the décor so I'm ok with that. I expect it back early August....really excited! Thanks to al for all your help and pointing me in the right direction here and there. Much appreciated. Will get some pics up when its all done.

The extension/games room and new brewhouse* are finished....the table is in but the top bit is being collected next week to be revamped. I reckon to be up and running sometime this summer. The runners from the pockets to the ball collect are quite rough. I had thought about using the sticky back baize on them to both quieten them down and prevent ball damage, I think someone advised this a while back. Does anyone have any advice on the best sort of cue for bar billiards, snooker cues seem very long, pool cues perhaps?
*I love making beers, proper grain brewing, not kits!

Q! Look forward to having the table set up, would be great if you could come and have a go. It's a narrow four pin. A challenge alright....but its great fun! I would like to get it recovered, have a very unfairpocket on the right, has a ridge of worn cloth. A recover is necessary, also needs work on the runners beneath. Cornish league? At least I might finish second!

Been busy, family and all that., sorry....Just retrying my table as it’s about to go into storage, building a place where I can get to the table, needs work. But it’s just a beautiful thing! About next June i’m told before it’s in place. That’s August then. Can see it’s not running true now...but it’s late and I just love the tick of the clock. That sounded more ominous than intended!

I meant using the rules the previous owner went by were too easy! He has a larger diameter 10" D from which he says non break shots can be taken. Don't like that at all so playing breaks from the spot and other shots from the 'proper' D. I will invest in a new set of balls next. Getting a cue for my birthday. 50 next month so approaching middle age. Any cue advice anyone? Will go by your rules so i can get my eye in. Would love to play some experienced 4 pin players having only ever played 3 pin before. Thanks all. Stew in meva.

Sticky backed velour and cushioned pads fitted. The trough cleaned and polished. The scoreboard too. Its looking good. Even cut some new spots from gaffer tape. Really pleased with the table. Getting quotes for re felting and new cushions. Its a completely different game to 3 pin. Playing off the back cushion to sink a 50, 100 or 200 whilst pocketing also in the 30 (back, centre) seems the best way to build a break. The coin slot is the old 10p (florins), this lead me to asking about for any from friends. One of my artists (i have a gallery in Mevagissey) said she would sell me some at the going rate from her late mothers coin collection. Whilst going through a huge box of mostly dross she found a Charles 2nd coin worth over £500! Also sold me some florins, we used to have beautiful currency!

Hello. Micmacmoc here in Mevagissey, Cornwall (near England). I recently bought a 4 pin table. Its a narrow one, Sams of Hoddesdon. The slate is ok, needs refelting but is playable. I have been working on it to clean it up. Lovely glossy mahogany under several decades of muck. It only has six balls. Is this correct for a narrow 4 pin? The previous owner gave me a set of rules with the table but they seemed rather made up and made for far too easy play. Is there a set for narrow 4 pin tables?

Sorry not to have been about here..I have a shop in Mevagissey, tourist trade, so its all go at the moment. A seven day week of full on mayhem. We have the table up and running. I have read the four pin threads and am gradually working on a set of rules. The table came with a set of rules which seem to have been made up by the owner. There are only five white and one red ball. The trough has no lining so I am loath to buy new balls until I can protect the drop. Whilst the beize is quite worn its OK, quite fast from what I can remember. The slate seems to run true. I happen to be in Southampton today and will get to the wonderful table at the Junction Inn, Portswood this afternoon if all goes to plan.

The table does need some work. I think there may be a repaired rip in front of the D. The leather of the d spot is lifting at the edges. I am considering having it re-covered.

Hello! The mission was successful, no trouble over bridgwater (groan). I had loads of packing...mountains of the stuff! At the Bridgwater end one of the family happened to be a bodybuilder, he was very helpful. We returned to Mevagissey about ten and had the table set up by eleven. I couldnt believe it when the coin mechanism worked first time. British engineering (bet someone will tell me they're made in Germany now! Didnt make it to bed til around 1am, spirit levels and cues all over the place. I need some no smoking or drinking at the table signs already. I would love to host a game for the Cornish members. As a shopkeeper on a 7 day week this will have to wait til after the emmets have gone home! But the other good news is that my garage holds bar football (a decent one), darts and my pride..an all grain brewery.

Hello! I'm an ex Hampshire league player. The Bay Tree pub Southampton back in the 90s. I am going to pick up a second hand 'sams'narrow table tomorrow. I have rented a transit van. I wondered if you kind folk might have some eords of wisdom about moving a table? Looking forward to spending time here and swapping tales of beize, booze and billiards. micmacmoc of mevagissey
