I suspect some, if not all, of these matches will be postponed. England v Belgium at 7pm that night!! Can we have a list of contacts so that arrangements can be made where necessary? For our part I'm assuming I need to contact Colin. Venues will need to be made aware of original or re-arranged dates as well re. catering.

Postponed match played last night -
Swan Nomads 4 - 1 Smugglers 'A'
Paul Barnett* 11650 1500 Ted Stringer Nick Brown 13820 450 Chris Lucas* Lyn Higgins 740 1710 Kim Hurley* Tony Burgess* 4140 1400 Steve Hurley Neil Higgins 7460 2630 Dave Jones*
Another season ends. Table played very nicely last night, but unfortunately it requires some serious attention. The cloth is very worn and threadbare, and the clock was running 22 minutes, meaning the games had to be timed. If repaired by Tarratts it will mean £2 games next season, but as that's the first increase in over 30 years, people shouldn't really complain.

Congratulations to Graham, thoroughly deserved. I think Richard could also finish as runner-up if Chase and Derek both lose, and Bobble could if Derek, Chase and Richard all lose.

Swan Nomads 3 - 2 Albion 'D'/Pocket Rocket
Nick Brown 7760 2870 Dave Roberts
Dave opened with 2k and it took Nick several visits and small scores before a sizeable break won the game.
Tony Burgess 3030 5890 Brian Bartram
Good game this, with Brian opening with 3k. Tone replied with 2k and Brian added another 2k. Tone going nicely with 2k of his own but catching a thin 100 hole and taking a peg. Both added a few more.
Paul Barnett 2350 8300 Alan Mepham
Having watched his opponent start with 9.6k last week, Barney had to watch Alan roll back the years by opening with 7.5k of his own! BB Gods not being very kind to Barney at the moment.
Gary Ridley 3490 3380 Dave Bartram
Both players had a couple of smallish breaks, but when Dave got the break back just before the bar was due, with the scores pretty even, it should have been game and match to our opponents. Dave, however, left both balls short on his 1-up, leaving Gary 230 behind as the bar dropped. Showing all his experience, Gary managed to clear all balls, potting the last 2 with a clever shot to save having a last-ball game. Phew!
Neil Higgins 7220 820 Toni Hunt
Several breaks, allowing Toni as much table time as I dared, gave us a win which we only just deserved.

Hi Darren,
I posted our entries 3 weeks ago. Singles and doubles Neil Higgins and Paul Barnett.
Do I have to send another one?
Thanks,
Neil

Stuart was unable to find a suitable date to play our match with his partner. He has therefore given Lyn and me a bye.

Having arranged to play Mark on 2 occasions, and dropping out each time at short notice due to being unwell, I considered it unfair to risk that happening a 3rd time, so I conceded the match. Good luck to Mark.

Think there was a fair bit of confusion this week, due as far as I can see that some of the fixtures on the wdbbl site and proboards are wrong. The Smugglers v Tarring Club should have been at the Smugglers, according to the official fixture list, whereas the wdbbl site shows it the other way round.
We very nearly also went to the wrong venue! The fixture list shows us at Home to the Marine View and wdbbl shows it the other way round. It was purely by chance that I spotted the error, in fact until late in the afternoon we were all set to go to the Marine View. Thankfully our opponents probably don't use proboards or the internet, so they were where they should have been. The error is borne out by the fact that wdbbl shows our return fixture against the Marine View on the 19th April as being at the Swan. That would make for an interesting evening, as the other Swan team are also at Home that night! As an aside, some helpful person had also told the Swan that there was no match, consequently there was no food. Never mind.
Anyway, here are the scores -
Swan Nomads 4 1 Marine View
Gary Ridley 7400 2910 John Hayes* Paul Barnett 4710 740 Bepo* Tony Burgess 1300 1500 Martyn Grubb* Nick Brown 8970 1030 Dave Catchpole* Neil Higgins 2860 1160 Matt Mason*

Shocking news. I've not been playing Mid-Sussex as long as most of the other players, but as well as being a decent friendly man, Kim was a much respected and capable opponent, perfectly able to give anyone a good beating. I will miss our tussles. RIP Kim.

I beat Andy 3-1 last night. 1 each at the Con Club but I managed to win both games on a very good CKRBL table. Thanks to Ted for scoring the games at CKRBL.

Looks to me that 2 of the above matches weren't played according to the Chairman's Cup rules. The Away drawn team should have the break in games 1 and 3, with the Home drawn team the break in games 2 and 4. Assuming the results above are entered correctly, the matches between the Smugglers B and Tarring Club, and Pocket Rocket A and Albion C both contravened those rules. A toss of the coin to decide whether to be deemed the Home or Away team only applies to the final. I assume these matches will have to be replayed (he said tongue in cheek).

Played both my matches at the Pocket Rocket tonight. Seniors against Pete Hickman first on the B table, and Pete very kindly lost his 5.5k opening break, allowing me to win a low-scoring game. Breaks of 5k and 4k in the second game gave me a 2-0 win. Switching to the A table, Stuart and I spent most of the first game working out the quirks and rolls, with Stuart taking the game. I had a steady 5.8k to open the second game which was enough. On to the 3rd, where Stuart opened with just over 3k and I responded with only 450. I was the first to get the break back however, and touched up on 6k to win 2-1. Both tables playable but the B table seems to have side cushions that throw down, and the A table is definitely downhill with a sharp left-hand roll. Thanks to Pete Brown and Barney for scoring the first match and to Alan Mepham and Barney for scoring the second.

Swan Nomads 5 - 0 Albion D
Nick Brown 6860 2330 Dave Bartram
Took Nick quite a while to get the break back but did enough when he did.
Gary Ridley 4080 2720 Dave Roberts
This result was in doubt until the end when Gary got the break back (again) and finished off.
Paul Barnett 7710 4970 Brian Bartram
Easily the best game of the night. Brian lost his 2k opener. Barney one visit and touch, Brian played the rest out.
Neil Higgins 9590 2210 Alan Mepham
Alan a 1k opener, followed by a 7k by me which I was slightly fortunate to keep. Both added a few bits.
Tony Burgess w/o
Unfortunately the Albion only had 4 players.

Given that Stuart, Pete and myself all play in other leagues on a Wednesday, it may be tricky to arrange our matches if the venue is only available on those nights.
