Ros and I beat Gary and Nick 2-0 last night at the Hassocks. A decent break by myself, after Gary had missed early was enough to take the first. A nice opening break by Ros in the second gave us a good start and Gary and Nick never able to settle. Thanks to Trevor for scoring both games. Any idea when the draws for Mens singles and Senior singles will be made. It's not a problem for the Mens singles as there's 5 weeks until finals/presentation night, but the Seniors has to be completed before then, meaning finding dates to play the semis and final.

I beat Graham 3-2 last night in the Seniors singles. A really good match which went to the extra leg. Thanks to Ros, Barney and Trevor for sharing the scoring duties.

Swan Nomads 4 - 1 Pocket Rocket played at the Alexandra
Our debut match at our 3rd "Home" venue of the season, and we have a lot to learn about the table. The main lesson learnt is that anything past the 100 hole is a lottery!
Tony Burgess 2580 1740 Matt Enticknapp* Matt opened with about 1.3k but struggled to add much after. Several small breaks enough for Tone to win
Ros Appleby 2240 980 Toni Hunt* Both players finding scoring difficult, but Ros doing enough
Nick Brown 6390 2970 Alan Mepham* Alan played well but a 5k break halfway through gave Nick the win
Paul Barnett 5500 6000 Ben Goodwin* Best game easily of the night. Ben opened with 4.5k and no matter what he tried, Paul unable to get the break back. Ben did, but only added 1.3k. Eventually Paul did get the break back but it always looked that he might be 30secs short of having enough time. So it proved, as he played the rest of the table out with a 5k break.
Neil Higgins 2390 980 Gemma Wilson* Gemma lost a small opening break and there followed a long and frustrating game where the balls ended up in odd places and the break wouldn't come back. Good news was that I did eventually get it back, however the bad news was that there were only 30secs left doh!
Hopefully we'll play the table a bit better next time. Many thanks to the Alex for allowing us to play there, and for laying on a nice spread of food.

Neil and Ros beat Ben and Graham 2-1 last night at the Windmill. All players found the table a bit tricky (downhill with a right-hand roll), but still definitely playable. Ben probably played the best of all of us, he was the most comfortable on the break. We sneaked the decider, however, where we both made smallish contributions and luckily Ben didn't repeat his good scoring from the second game. Thanks to Richard and Trevor for sharing the scoring duties.

This match was originally scheduled for 27th January. Unfortunately I was ill and had to postpone. With Derek playing 3 leagues a week, coupled with scheduled and re-arranged Interleague matches for him, this was the earliest date we could both make. In fact, Derek came straight from the Div 2 1-day comp to play this match. Given there was a 2 month gap between the closing date for entries and the draw being published, it doesn't seem that there is a huge rush to get these matches played. If playing 2 days late has caused the whole competition to be delayed, then I will apologise and drop out.

Having played the Marine View last week in the Cup, by chance we are due to play them again this week in a league match. Speaking to them last week, there is a good chance that this week they will only have 3 players. Not sure how the 4-player rule can apply when there are only 3 players. What next, a 3-player rule, a 2-player rule? I'm happy to let 2 of their players play again if they do only have 3, but I think something needs to be formalised.

Marine View 2 - 3 Swan Nomads @ The Henty
Geoff Twinning 640 290 Lyn Higgins* More lost than kept in this thriller!
Martin Grubb* 1210 5460 Ros Appleby Good solid game by Ros. Added at each visit.
John Hayes 660 3140 Neil Higgins* Only a 2k starter from me, then balls went into some very interesting places, such that the break never came back.
Bepo* 2450 0 Alan Messer With the Marine View only having 4 players, the match was therefore won. Alan was able therefore to concentrate more on watching his beloved Man City stuffing Liverpool on the tele, than on his match. He did, however, leave himself the red ball in the 200 as the last ball for the win. Only slightly overhitting it, the red wobbled in the pocket just enough to knock the black over.
No player w/o Tony Burgess
Thanks to The Henty for their hospitality, which included generous amounts of sausages, chips and beans.

Swan Nomads 2 - 3 Henty
So close to a shock upset on a newly recovered, but currently slow Swan table.
Ros Appleby 1650 5760 Gerry Fitzjohn*
Gerry left both balls up on his opening break due to the slow table. Both players chased the balls around for several minutes before Gerry got the break back and made enough to win.
Gary Ridley* 8690 4230 Curt Driver
Gary only opened with 1k but Curt not able to score at his first visit. Gary did, however, get the break straight back, and despite finding it almost impossible to pot both balls on a break shot, managed to keep going until touching up at 7k. Curt with a quick 4k to finish.
Neil Higgins* 6090 7010 Martin Cole
This was possibly the pivotal game. I only opened with 1k, but with Martin not getting the break straight back, I did, but came off at 4k when 6k would have been enough doh! Martin 7k and touch, leaving me to add another 1k.
Tony Burgess 620 4510 Terry Molloy*
Scrappy game with both players having plenty of visits. Tone never got going and Terry won comfortably.
Ros Appleby (4pr) 5790 4280 Stu Mepham*
Stu opened with about 2k and Ros with 1k. Ros first to get the break back and made a very nice 4k and touch with only a couple of hairy moments. Stu finished off.
Good evening with the Henty boys. So close but......

Oops! I wonder what the score would have been if the breaks had been played in the correct order i.e. Tarring should have had breaks 1 and 3 with Smugglers having 2 and 4.

Sorry, should have kept everyone up-to-date. The operation seems to have been a complete success, he had a scan on Sunday and as that showed no problem, they were able to remove all the tubes and drains from his head. We visited yesterday and he was perfectly lucid, although still vague about what happened. More news today is that they are probably letting him out tomorrow (Tuesday), so they must be pleased with his progress. A close call but it looks like he will be ok. No driving for at least 6 weeks though.

Barney was taken to Worthing hospital by ambulance yesterday early pm, and after a CT scan was blue-lighted to the Royal Sussex in Brighton. There he had a 3 hour operation to relieve bleeds on both sides of his brain. He's reasonably bright today but we have no idea when he will be allowed out. Lucky we found him when we did!

I suspect some, if not all, of these matches will be postponed. England v Belgium at 7pm that night!! Can we have a list of contacts so that arrangements can be made where necessary? For our part I'm assuming I need to contact Colin. Venues will need to be made aware of original or re-arranged dates as well re. catering.
